About

RustDesk is a full-featured open source remote control alternative for self-hosting and security with minimal configuration. Works on Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS, Android, and web. Supports VP8/VP9/AV1 software codecs, and H264/H265 hardware codecs. Own your data, and easily set up a self-hosting solution on your infrastructure. P2P connection with end-to-end encryption based on NaCl. No administrative privileges or installation needed for Windows, elevate privilege locally or from remote on demand. We like to keep things simple and will strive to make them simpler where possible. Supported by a network of early advocates, contributors, and champions. If you are using RustDesk you should have your own RustDesk server. The ports required for RustDesk server self-hosting depend largely on your environment and what you want to do with RustDesk.

About

Interactive Remote Assistance using Augmented Reality. Take a look at problems in equipment—ranging from plant machinery to servers—at any moment, right from your desk, by accessing a user’s smartphone camera at the remote location. View the camera stream of your remote client’s smartphone or smart glass and instruct them right from your desk by viewing the live high-definition video. AR annotations allow you and your customer to add extra virtual information to the live camera stream. You can use other annotation tools to draw and write on the screen. Interact with your customer through VoIP and text chat to provide better remote assistance. Capture a snapshot of the incoming camera stream to document specific events during the session, or to analyze an issue further. Freeze the incoming camera stream to explore, analyze, and discuss technical details of a particular scenario in greater depth.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Even though it's fast when it does work, since it's self hosted and runs through your own relay server.
  • - Self Hosting - Speed - Security - This means nothing, but the form told me I needed at least 100 characters in the text box. Lorem ipsum quick red fox yadda yadda yadda.
  • Unattended Mode plus the OTP Mode, faster connection and better display and resolution handling on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Cons

  • Their support staff are not helpful, blunt, not trained at all to work with the public and quite rude. The system is full of bugs which are not being addressed, even though the internet is full of the discussions of these.
  • - Additional charge PER endpoint - regardless if you need unattended access or not - Support is terrible/non existent. - Server installation was a pain.
  • Remote Connection have no 'on-premises' options just like AnyDesk.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Help keep remote connections and client stations organized. You can ass tasks or projects to staff. I am able to easily connect with clients and it is very easy for them to get connected.

Cons

  • It can be a bit hard to set up and you may need an IT professional to make sure it's properly set configured and secure.
