Probably best to return it if you need something now. No work has been done on the TI chipset(s) at all and I don't have any info (or sample hardware) to try and test with. I'll look into it as a possibility, but I'm still putting more priority on getting the existing cards fully featured first. -Rob On Monday, August 19, 2002, at 09:36 PM, Jon Rosen wrote: > The D-Link DWL-650+ operates at up to 22 Mbps. That's pretty much the case... I think it's close enough to the release date to at least let out the=20 patch for the existing installer, with the new one to follow in a day=20 or two. Basically, Jaguar introduces some security checks for kernel extensions=20= and the current driver fails this test. To fix it: Do one of the following: 1) Install the developer tools. This installs a more complete = version=20 of kextload that is needed here. 2) Open terminal and run "sudo kextload=20 /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext" 3) Modify=20 /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext/Contents/Info.plist",=20 removing the 2 line entry for IOKitDebug on lines 33 and 34 (it's not=20 needed except during development and was incorrectly typed as a string=20= when it should have been an integer) 4) run "sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions" ...NOTE: This won't work if run from the console as kextload = will pop=20 up a dialog asking for confirmation ...or... 1) "sudo chmod -R ugo-w = /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext" 2) "sudo chown -R root.wheel=20 /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext" 3) Modify=20 /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext/Contents/Info.plist",=20 removing the 2 line entry for IOKitDebug on lines 33 and 34 (it's not=20 needed except during development and was incorrectly typed as a string=20= when it should have been an integer) 4) run "sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions" I'm doing this from memory, so I'm sure someone will correct me if I've=20= left something out... -Rob On Friday, August 16, 2002, at 06:09 AM, Steven Major wrote: > Whoo-hoo! =A0Mine just came in the mail today! =A0It=92s EARLY! =A0I=92m= =20 > wondering if the new driver is ready to go and is just being held back=20= > until the official Jaguar release date. > > Obviously, I=92m so anxious to install it I might go back to a wired=20= > connection until the new driver is out. > > Simply giddy with delight, > -Steve= |

I'm using an ORiNOCO silver card in the PC card slot of a TiBook running 10.1.5 connecting to a first-generation Airport base station: (1) When signing on to a network which requires a password, the user guide says to enter the network name and password into the PrefPan. Where does the password go? I am connected to my network now though I did not enter a password. I am using WEP and it just so happens that the key is the same as the network password. (2) Does the wireless driver only support getting an IP address through DHCP? When I try to set the IP address manually, it does not seem to work? Thanks, Patrick Klein |

The D-Link DWL-650+ operates at up to 22 Mbps. I believe I read it uses a Texas Instruments chipset, so I'm guessing that it isn't compatible with the Prism/Prism 2 chipset. Does anyone know if there is a driver available or the chances of getting this card supported by WirelessDriver? Or, is there another card using this chipset that is Mac-compatible? I could try those drivers with this card. I was hoping to use this card because of the speed. If it's not going to be compatible anytime soon, I'll return it and get one of the 11 Mbps cards listed on the FAQ. |

I installed the wireless driver on a G3 PowerBook (Pismo) running OS X 10.1.5. The card is a D-Link DWL-650+. The computer wouldn't boot with the card in the PCMCIA slot after I installed the driver. When I install the card, it doesn't show up under active network ports. I would really like to get this card working, if possible. Any suggestions? Jon |

Can someone post or email the modifications required to get the driver running under 10.2. I tried the current installer, but it doesn't seem to load. At least the interface isn't added in the network pane, and the wireless pane is completely disabled. I tried to get it to compile, but it's a little over my head. I mainly do WebObjects development, and I don't even know where to begin figuring out the broken dependencies in the current CVS code when compiling under 10.2. Thanks, Kevin |

Hi, Would it be possible to put together a rough installer for Mac OS 10.2? I'd be happy to test a pre-release, but I'm not excited about pulling code out of CVS for kernel modules... We're now getting hardware with 10.2 upgrade CD's, so even though it's not officially released, Mac OS 10.2 it has been spotted in the wild. Thanks! There is an FAQ on the wirelessdriver site about this. http://wirelessdriver.sourceforge.net/faq.html#panic As far as people wishing to use different network access methods in different locations, with my powerbook and under OS X you can just set the preference of network interfaces. I set mine in with Onboard Ethernet on top and Wireless card as number two. When I am plugged in with cat 5 cable it recognises it and uses the onboard ethernet. If there is no ethernet then it automatically checks for a wireless network and uses that. So for this case I have no need to eject the card. Although it does stick out a bit :( Anyway if you want to take it out with no kernel panic then follow the steps in the FAQ carefully. Cheers, Jarrod. I have a similar question: I am running a Wallstreet G3 with 10.1.5, with an orinoco gold card. My questions are as follows: 1) When I am at home I'm on wireless. When I'm at work I'm wired. Michael- I routinely go from wireless (at home) to wired (at work) without any problem. For me, the easiest was to make different network locations- one for home using the Wireless card and one for work using the ethernet adapter. In each location INACTIVATE the unused adapters, making ONLY the Wireless card active in the home location and ONLY the ethernet adapter active in the work location. With this setup, in the morning I can change my network location to "work", put my system to sleep, pack it up and head to the office. Once there I connect to the wired network and wake the powerbook up. When going home I reverse the process by setting the location to wireless, put it to sleep and wake it once I get home. I have not experienced any system degradation using this method, but I do not take out my card out while connected at work (even tho I am not using the wireless adapter). > >Message: 2 >Date: Thu, 8 Aug 2002 12:05:11 -0400 >From: Michael Bovee <mb...@zo...> >To: wir...@li... >Subject: [Wirelessdriver-support] how to switch back to 'wired'? > >Hello supporters, >I'm at a loss regarding how to gracefully (without rebooting) switch >from wireless operation at home using this most excellent driver to >connecting to plug-in ethernet at work. The same Location also has my wireless settings. Switching from one environment to the other is simple - don't. I will sleep the machine only for the ease of carrying it to the bedroom. When I leave the house and go to a location with a wireless network, I just have to change the network name in the wireless driver panel and click "Apply". I've seen in the archives that people have already asked about whether the current driver will work with 10.2. I was disappointed to find the answer to be no but happy to find out the fix needed was simple and that there was a new release expected before 10.2 hit's the shelves. I'm writing the mailing list to ask if there's a projected release date for the updated driver since 10.2 is now due in just 2 weeks or if there are instructions anywhere on how to hack the driver ourselves to make it work in 10.2. Thanks in advance for any answers that the developers or list members may be able to provide. Thanks as well for the excellently maintained mailing list archive that answered my initial questions about compatibility between 10.2 and the current driver. |

Hello supporters, I'm at a loss regarding how to gracefully (without rebooting) switch from wireless operation at home using this most excellent driver to connecting to plug-in ethernet at work. The FAQ says a lot about getting things working, but that went without a hitch on my machine. I haven't seen where the docs say how to turn off (and eject) the card... What I have tried is -- switching to my setup for plugged-in Ethernet at work through the Network Prefs and then unplugging the card from my Lombard PBG3 (10.1.5) either before or after Sleeping the computer. Either way, Sleep works fine and doesn't wake when I remove the card, but the system slows to a crawl after Waking and so I just go for the reboot. (If this is explicitly described in the FAQ, I missed it, and I really am sorry. There just seems to be less Wireless driver documentation for the time being than there is for FINK for instance. Haven't found a description in the archives either, but then I could just be a loser ;0) BTW, what does 'kernel panic' mean anyway; what are the symptoms? :0/ Thanks for your patient tolerance of newbies like me! --Michael |

I=B9ve got a TiBook G4 with a WaveLAN Silver Turbo 11MB PC Card (012372B). The driver was working fine up through 10.1.5. I just installed Jaguar 6C115 as an upgrade over 10.1.5 and the card no longer functions. None of the lights come on on the card. I ran the uninstall script to remove everything and rebooted. I then ran the Beta4 installer and rebooted...No difference. Does the binary need to be rebuilt using the new glibc compiler? I=B9m not a Unix-type guy, so I wouldn=B9t know how to recompile it...but I sur= e could use a working binary :-) Thanks!!! Hi. I tried to install the latest released wireless driver on my brand-new jaguar (OS 10.2) install. As you probably already know, the installation fails. I then manually installed each package. The driver seemed to install properly, the preview pane failed, and the command line tool installed. When I try to use the command line tool (WirelessConfig), I get: "Wireless Driver: Couldn't find a WirelessDriver service in registry - is the card loaded?"? I installed the preview pane by hand by uncompressing the archive and putting it in the right places. It doesn't seem to help. When I run the trouble shooter, it only complains about sudo's attempt to run kmodstat, which it can't find (and I can't find that either). It apparently queries the card and gets reasonable answers. And then in the end, it runs WirelessConfig and gets the same message as above. Other information: I used the Wireless driver under 10.1 and 10.1.5 with no issues. I did a fresh install of 10.2. I run a Wallstreet G3 powerbook with a Linksys PCMCIA card and a Linksys wireless base station. Any help would be appreciated. I am willing to try out pre-release versions of software and/or the new installation package as well. As it stands now... I think I've successfully installed everything. I can't edit any entires in the Wireless Pref Pane. The command line tool prints the above message. I have no link. Thanks! Rob |

Hello, I have recently obtained the Goldmaster copy of 10.2 and was wondering if there is a driver in developement to work with it. I didnt think installing it would cause me to loose my ability to use the driver, but it did. If anyone has any answers please help. Thanks! John |
