Rich and Chris, The answer to both of these problems might be to inactivate your card before leaving. Try deselecting the wireless in Network Port Connections before you put your machine to sleep, then click APPLY. Leave the card installed unless you power it off. When you get to your new location it will start up normally. Re-select the wireless, click APPLY, and it will connect to the new service. Kori (I have a Lombard with a D-link 650 card and 10.2) > . Hi, I'm running the beta5 driver with a Farallon SkyLine Mbps, works fine. Tried a SMC (2632W) wireless card, good signal but no internet content, and the EN1 doesn't show. All expectable. I know that most SMC products are not supported for the Mac. But I use a SMC Wireless Access Point (2655) which works fine in a Mac and Mac/Windows environment, and was curious to test that SMC wireless card. Is there a possibility that future releases of the present driver might recognize the SMC card? TIA. Charly |

Hi Rich - Appletalk isn't fully supported yet, as I understand it, with the wireless driver. But you can still connect to another computer via its IP address. In your Go menu, select Connect to Server. In the window that appears, type in "afp://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx", where the xxx business is replace= d by the IP address of the machine you're connecting to. I'm half way there using b5 and 10.2.1. TCP/IP works, but (like others have said) it didn't work the first time. Installed a couple of times, and rebooted a couple of times, then all of a sudden, it worked. Still don't have Appletalk working over wireless connection, so I can't print or transfer files from OSX unless I connect a wire. Can anybody??? Minor hassle is that I need to reboot machine whenever I move my computer from the University to my home (both have Airports). System 9.2 would reset the IP address each time computer awoke from sleep. Something in either b5 or 10.2.1 is retaining the IP info, and I have to reboot to clear it. Is there another workaround? rr |

Chris, Currently, this is normal behavior. The driver will not load until you login as a user and open the prefpane (hence the error messages). If you boot without the card inserted, you will have a rapid boot. If you insert the card after you log in, and then open the prefpane you will have a fast boot and have the driver working. We have been thinking about making a startupitem that reads a set of general prefs to alleviate this problem...the issue is: this occurs at the expense of security on multiuser machines...still working on it. Actually, old laptops make great webservers/routers as they have a built-in UPS system with their batteries and they have more than enough power to handle most non-commercial LAN's/websites. Hello Everyone: Just a quick question that I need answered. I have search the archives and cannot seem to find anyone else who is having the same problem as me. Does anyone (everyone) experience a significantly longer start-up when using the wireless driver? I restarted in verbose mode once and I saw the computer running the same line several (hundred times) org.noncongrous.wirelessdriver. or somesuch. Anyway I am wondering if I have a bad install or if this is just part of using this driver (which I am willing to accept). About me PB bronze 400 w/ 320mb wavelan silver OSX 10.1.5 and the latest driver that is precompilled. If this is a bad install how do I uninstall/reinstall to ensure a clean install? Thanks in advance Christopher Shultz |

I have a Wallstreet Powerbook running 10.2 and a brand new NETGEAR MA401 wireless card. I installed the WirelessDriver and it seemed OK. When I inserted the card it was recognized by the system --- the PCCard menu appeared on the menu bar --- but the WirelessConfig preference pane could not find the card. After some tinkering I discovered that if I modified the Info.plist file inside the driver's bundle, it worked (sort of). This is for people who are comfortable editing property list files. The file to edit is /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext/Contents/Info.plist. You will need to have root privileges to edit it. Under the section after <key>IOPersonalities</key>, add a new entry for the NETGEAR: <key>NETGEAR MA401</key> <dict> <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key> <string>org.noncontiguous.WirelessDriver</string> <key>IOClass</key> <string>org_noncontiguous_WirelessDriver</string> <key>IOProbeScore</key> <integer>4096</integer> <key>IOProviderClass</key> <string>IOPCCard16Device</string> <key>VersionOneInfo</key> <array> <string>NETGEAR MA401RA Wireless PC</string> <string>Card</string> <string>ISL37300P</string> <string>Eval-RevA</string> </array> </dict> All of the keys are the same as any other card except for the VersionOneInfo array. I suspect if you have a card that is not being recognized, you can add a similar entry to your Info.plist by adding the right VersionOneInfo array. I got the values for my card by running "ioreg -lw0" from the Terminal (watch out, that will print out a LOT of stuff). I only *think* this works: the card is recognized, I get a signal measurement, a network interface shows up, etc. I can't actually test it though because I'm trying to connect to a University network which requires WEP, and I think the WEP isn't working. My questions: 1. Do the developers read this? I think they should add the NETGEAR card info above in the next release. If they don't, where should I send this? 2. What is the story with WEP support? Should it *theoretically* work on all cards, assuming the driver is updated? If it is possible, I'm willing to do some development work; if not, I need to return this card and get my money back. -- Ben |

Hi all. This is kinda a repeat, kinda not. After installing TinkerTool, the pref pane shows up, but I still get no en1, nor any other new network interfaces. I uninstalled with the uninstaller script, installed twice, and trashed the kext cache to get to this point. The output from the troubleshooting script follows. The part that seems to be a problem is how the wirelessdriver command line utility cannot find a WirelessDriver service in registry. Can anyone tell me what this means, and what I can do about it? Thanks again, everyone. No WEP (of course :&/ I tried an Orinoco gold, but no WEP either. Rob?) My standard post to this list is: Remove the Extensions.kextcache file using sudo rm /System/Library/extensions.kextcache in the Terminal. Then reboot. This solved the only problems I had with the driver (except for the missing WEP support). YMMV. (I could put this into an AppleScript, if some still are afraid of the Terminal) Still the missing WEP becomes more and more annyoing because of the panicking sysadmins who are afraid of warchalkers. -Stefan |

Runs OK, also previously with 1.2. But I had to run the installer twice before I got the connection to work. What I did: - login as root to uninstall the previous driver. I don't think this is really necessary. As administrator, the ininstaller (a Terminal script) works fine. But who knows? - login back as adminstrator. - checked that there were no remainders of the previous driver and PrefPane. - ran the beta5 installer, restarted. - nada - ran the beta5 installer once again, restarted. - that was it. Hope you get your wireless back. Charly |

Can anybody confirm that the builtin PPTP (VPN) in 10.2 (Jaguar) works with Wirelessdriver? If not, is there a possible workaround? Piet. |

Hi Rich, From what I understand, Appletalk support isn't fully implemented in th= e Wireless Driver yet. I have had luck connecting to other computers on the network using afp://[address] and can print using IP. I have a Wallstreet 233/320 mb ram/ Wavelan Silver card. Just thought I'd pass on my experience this afternoon with the just-posted 10.2.1 software update. After the required reboot, all I had to do was re-enter the network name in the driver prefpane, and all was well. It picked up the password from my keychain. I don't know if it solves the problems folks have been having with 10.2. It WAS, after all, working for me with 10.2, but it seems that the 10.2.1 didn't break the driver. 400 MHz G4 Powerbook Orinoco Gold Apple Airport Base Station (White) -- Peter Truskier Premedia Systems, Inc. You are correct in that installing tinkertool fixed that particular problem. however, en1 still does not show up. Thanks for the help, though!
