Do you have a field called "Other" in System Prefs? If not, try installing TinkerTool before installing the wireless driver. (TinkerTool is small and you need not actually use it.) This creates an "Other" shelf. The wireless driver pref pane needs to reside in Other but it seems from some posters here the install doesn't always create it. Somebody jump all over me if I'm wrong. vix > Hi all. I ran the wireless driver installer (a few times) on my rev.1 > wallstreet. >A wallstreet as a router? Seesh, you must be one of those people >with a BMW station wagon... Saab, actually, but a hatchback, not a wagon. Plus it's nine years old. Of course, the detail I left out about the wallstreet it that the screen was destroyed, and so I removed the screen, control the laptop with Timbuktu, and all it does is sit on top of my stereo, do NAT and play MP3's. >I use a PB5300 running 8.6 and IPNetrouter as my base station, with >the wireless driver and a 266Mhz wallstreet running 10.2 as my >workstation. basically what I am doing now, but for various reasons, I wanted to run OS X on the router... >The PB5300 is running the Orinoco drivers, as Apple's don't work right on it. > >Anyhow, I don't know how much help this is other then to say you can >connect to an "ad-hoc" network from this driver fine. Well, I guess what I was thinking was if the laptop connects to an apple airport card "computer-to-computer" network, hasn't it just established an ad-hoc network that others can connect to? If all users are connected to that network, can't they use the wallstreet as the router by manually putting in whatever private IP we give the proxim card in network preferences? and won't that acheive the desired effect. The problem being, what happens if the router is the only thing on the airport network at some point? Will it completely drop the connection? It's just that it is kind of a pain in the arse thing to do trial-and-error-like, so I was just putting out a feeler to see if someone could say for sure if it were possible or that it certainly wasn't. (Or if somebody working on the project could say, "it won't work, but don't worry about it, new drivers are coming out in a few weeks that support creating ad-hoc networks") cheers, -david -- David Kephart P: +1 412-445-2738 301 Shiloh St, Fl 2 F: +1 419-710-0097 Pittsburgh, PA 15211-1625 e: mailto:ke...@ma... I use a PB5300 running 8.6 and IPNetrouter as my base station, with the wireless driver and a 266Mhz wallstreet running 10.2 as my workstation. The PB5300 is running the Orinoco drivers, as Apple's don't work right on it. Anyhow, I don't know how much help this is other then to say you can connect to an "ad-hoc" network from this driver fine. I think it would be tough to achieve the setup you describe without another way to test the wallstreet 10.2 install. The current installer is somewhat cranky and requires a bit of a jog to get it going.... Good Luck, Marty |

I was hoping to install this driver on a wallstreet/FarallonSKYline-11Mb that I currently use as a router for my wireless network. I need the driver so I can put OS X on it without killing my network. If I could just set up any kind of ad hoc network, I could do NAT with natd or OS X 10.2's built in Internet Sharing. I am pretty sure this is currently impossible (unless you can fool it into connecting to another ad hoc network as if it was a basestation?), but is there a build in the CVS tree that has support for creating an ad hoc network? -- David Kephart |

Rob-ALL- I AM WIRELESS!!!! I can't believe it is finally here. Well, the solution was simply turning the power off on both the cable modem and the airport base station. Plug it back in, start up the Wallstreet and BOOM! I am wireless! Thanks to all for your help. Most importantly, thanks to the developers for creating this driver for us all! You guys are the BEST!! Hi Everyone, After several days of no EN1 option showing up, it magically appeared and it works fine although I had to uncheck the WEP security on the airport base station. I have the Orinoco Gold working with the Lombard. I'm still using the pre-Jaguar WirelessDriver with Jaguar, using one of the configuration hacks posted here, and it's working fine. I would use the standard configuration tool with your wireless router (does it have a web interface?) and set the 128 bit WEP password according to the instructions for the router. This should be 26 numerals; the same string is entered into the appropriate box in the WirelessDriver config panel, with no special leading characters. That's what worked for me with my DLink router, and is the standard procdure, as I understand it. Good luck. |

I have a Lucent RG-1100 Access Point (the box says it's 128 bit). I have a Lombard running 10.2, and the latest wirelessdriver. I have a Lucent Orinocco Gold (128 bit) wireless card. The setup work fine in an closed, non encrypted setup. But I cannot connect successfully in a closed, WEP enabled environment. The FAQ is somewhat ambiguous as to where the NEP (network equiv password) should be entered; however I've tried all 4 possibilities (40-bit, 128-bit, text to hex, hex) without success. The upside of the RG-1100 was that it appears as a Airport Base Station, configurable from the Airport Admin Utility. perhaps somehow this is limiting it to 40 bit, but I'm not sure why it would. Any thoughts or others who've had success with similar setups? Thanks- Chris |

Hello Finally I complete the setup for my G3 using a Orinoco Gold, I want explain what are the problems I found to have this done: - A lot of Installation and never show up the Wirelessconfig in the System Preference, this was caused because the Other Pane was not there, to fix the problem I install first the TinkerTool 2.31, this application creted for me the Other pane and them I was able to configure the Wireless driver. - Next I was using WEP 40bits key, but on the FAQ file this kind of card does only 128b encryption, so I changed my AP to not use WEP, but I kept MAC Access filter to avoid surprises. Thanks for support the wireless cards for MAC OS X users. Regards; Antonio __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! News - Today's headlines http://news.yahoo.com |

I'm having the EXACT same problems as Yuriwho... Wallstreet 300mhz, fresh 10.2 install. Orinoco Gold card, d-link 713P router. Everything works GREAT in OS9. In 10.2 the card won't power up, nor are the cardbus ports listed in the TCP/IP choices (en1 or en2). The crad *is* listed in the menubar's pulldown list, but it's grayed out. I've installed and reinstalled about five times already with no change. I've tried the installation with my card in and out, nothing works. Any suggestions would be really appreciated. It obviously sucks to have to reboot into 9 everytime I need network or internet access. You probably just need to edit your info.plist. Below are instructions to do this from an earlier post I made to this list: p.s. Rob can you add pccardb,7300 to the IOName matching info in the next release. Y ____________ To find out for yourself, the relevant information you need is the following: > ### wirelesscard info > > | | "VersionOneInfo" = ("3Com","3CRSHPW_96 Wireless > LAN PC Card$ > | | +-o pccard101,696@0,0 <class IOPCCard16Device> > | | "IOName" = "pccard101,696" This info comes from following terminal command when the card is inserted: ioreg -l | grep pccard Now to test if your card is supportable, you will need to edit the info.plist file in the WirelessDriver.kext file. type the following command in the terminal to edit this file with the pico text editor: sudo pico /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext/Contents/Info.plist look for the following lines: <key>everything else</key> <dict> <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key> <string>org.noncontiguous.WirelessDriver</string> <key>IOClass</key> <string>org_noncontiguous_WirelessDriver</string> <key>IONameMatch</key> <array> <string>pccard156,2</string> <string>pccard1eb,807</string> <string>pccard274,1613</string> <string>pccard274,1612</string> <string>pccard138,2</string> </array> and add your pccard string (pccard101,696) as an entry in this array. i.e.: <array> <string>pccard156,2</string> <string>pccard1eb,807</string> <string>pccard274,1613</string> <string>pccard274,1612</string> <string>pccard138,2</string> <string>pccard101,696</string> </array> to save the file type ctrl-x and accept the changes. View the edited file in the terminal to be sure your changes are correct: more /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext/Contents/Info.plist now try removing and re-inserting the card, if you are lucky it will now work! Let us know if you have success so we can add the card to our list of supported cards. Y On Saturday, September 14, 2002, at 02:12 PM, Chris Tuttle wrote: > Hi.
