Can't seem to connect a Wallstreet Powerbook G3 wsith an Orinocco Gold Card to an new dual ethernet Airport base station. Running OSX1.5. Works fine in OS9. Have tried both a closed and an open network. Everything seems to install ok. Network finds the card, I go to wireless config and type network name, but it doesn't connect, even after a restart. Have been careful to go through the FAQ's and tried suggestions there, re static ip, etc. to no avail. Help! No, I've not found a solution, but I want to add my voice and data to reporting the problem. I'm running the latest version of Wireless Driver on 10.2.1, using a "bronze keyboard" G3 PowerBook, and I've got a WaveLAN Gold wireless card (which works very happily under System 9.x). I also can't see the en1 option EXCEPT when I switch to an old Location configuration which I set up almost a year ago, I think, using an earlier version of WirelessDriver on an earlier version of OS X (and that worked fine). However, the en1 option is greyed out when I switch to that old Location configuration and so it's interesting to see it there, but useless and inaccessible. I ran the troubleshooting script on my machine the other day, and attach a text file with its contents. It looks to me like script could find the physical card, but the driver wasn't talking to it rightly. Any ideas? I'm guessing these various "no en1 option" questions are stemming from a common problem for the most part, but I'm far too inexpert to guess what! There are numerous messages about the driver not working in Jaguar 10.2. I indeed had the same problems that are being posted here (not able to select EN1, not able to get the WirelessConfig pane to work, etc.) It works now though, and here is what I did. First ran the installer for b5 without first uninstalling the version I already had. That didn't work. Restart. Nada, in fact I then had two WirelessConfig pref panes. Ran the uninstall script that came with b5, and restarted (this deleted both WirelessConfig's). Ran the b5 installer a 2nd time, and viola, I'm surfing sans wires again. __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? I saw in the archive that someone asked this question a few days ago, but I did not see any answers. There is not an option to select EN1. Has anyone had this problem and found a solution? I tried reinstalling the driver, but that did not help. Any suggestion? Heath |

Need help configuring skyline card on powerbook g4 running jaguar. In the wireless configuration it is recognizing the router, it is showing a signal, but I cannot connect to the internet. The same PowerBook with Skyline card is functioning perfectly with the Orinoco Access Point AP-500 at the separate location. The problem seems to be with the Linksys router, which on the other hand works fine with the PC running windows and Orinoco gold card. Linksys does not offer support for Mac OSX Anyone else having the same problem? Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Nesha |

All, Just an FYI. I had a Cisco Aeronet 340 with latest firmware installed under OS 9 on my wife's Powerbook G3 (Lombard). It worked fine with the stock drivers from Cisco. However, the Cisco OS X drivers did not work at all. The indicated that showed power to the card would never light under OS X. I tried it under OS X after installed the drivers provided for here and still no luck, the power light did not show and the driver itself would not detect the card. So, even though I had heard on other forums that Belkin cards did not work on Macs at all I took a chance with one I had in my PC(behind the TV for playing Divx movies).. Wouldn't you know it! It worked just as I have now seen that others are having the same experience!! I bought the card for $42.00 on Ebay brand-new from the Maryland Computer Exchange (this is by no means an AD). Just wanted to share my experience with everyone here. OS X has made all my old Apple/Apple-compatible equipment new to me again : ) I was able to get my wife on OS X wirelessly(no more lock ups or crashes.. even used gimp-print-4.2.2-rc3-ppc to enable printing to her Epson Stylus 600!!). Okay that was off topic..but just couldn't help it : ) -Cho |

Hi there. I've got an Avaya Wireless PC Card Gold, which Avaya don't have OS X drivers for, so I thought I'd check out this project. First I downloaded the installer for 1.0.0b5, but the card didn't show up as a network interface. So I grabbed the latest CVS version this morning, built the components and installed it. The card then showed up as a network interface, and the prefpane picked up the signal level properly, but I couldn't actually seem to connect. Then I searched the archives... and came across someone suggesting to remove the "/System/Library/Extensions.kextcache" file. This should probably get added to the FAQ I would think, as it solved my problem instantly. Works like a dream! And for the supported cards list, this card is working happily with both WEP off, and at 128bit. I don't think it supports 40bit. cheers, and many many thanks to the developers of this project. nigel |

Hi, I did not see the Belkin wireless PC card in the supported cards table, so I thought I would let everyone know that it seems to work (in my case). I have a Powerbook G3, upgraded with a powerlogix G3/500MHz. The Airport network works fine, though I did not try fancy stuff like encryption yet. Best, Guy |

Hello- I recently upgraded my G4 powerbook from 10.1.5 to 10.2 (and 10.2.1), with a Lucent Orinoco Silver. After upgradding both the OS and the driver, nothing works. Any ideas? The system.log (see end) seems to have a few things in it when I insert/remove the card, but that is all I can figure out. Also, I had a Cisco Aironet 340 card installed, and it broke too, after the upgrade. I upgraded that software too, and it doesn't work either! Thanks! Well, I considered whether to waste the bandwidth on this trivial problem that nobody seems to care about anyway but here goes ;0) 1) I may be mistaken but in my experience the new wirelessdriver b5.1 (unlike version b4) prevents my other PCMCIA device (a compact flash card and adapter) from being recognized like it once was, and mounting automatically onto the desktop. At first I saw this as a problem because I had overlooked the following obvious solutions that became apparent after a little more patience and attention: 2) Apple's download utility which launches automatically when the card is inserted and recognized does allow me to select individual pictures for download, solving one of my concerns. (Plus you get a thumbnail preview besides!) 3) The embarrasingly simple answer to graciously ejecting the 'invisible' card is that it shows up just fine in a finder window, and you can eject it from there. Thanks for the wireless driver. It works flawlessly! --Michael Bovee |

Hi, I'm running a 667 TI powerbook on OS 10.2.1 and have installed the wireless driver for 10.2. Had to install from individual packages to get to the EN2 configuration Got the WEP from the basestation running 4.06 firmware using an old ibook running OS 9.2.2 via direct cable. Get good signal from basestation, but not recognized by software (mail/browser). What am I doing wrong... PC card is Orinoco Gold (lucent) Thanks Steven |

Stefan, thanks for your reply. I'm nervous about messing with my functioning wireless setup, but here goes: I ran the un-installer and before rebooting tried the Compact Flash/PCMCIA (hereafter = CF) card. It did not mount as a drive. I rebooted to let the uninstaller finish any 'business' and still the CF card does not mount to the desktop. I am away from my wireless zone at home, so I cannot tell if the uninstaller indeed removed files needed for a wireless connection, but I assume it did. Reinstalling should get me back in (wireless) business, right? :0/ On Monday, September 23, 2002, at 05:20 PM, Stefan Huy wrote: > Now, that's interesting. Hi all, A while back I mentioned an incidental problem with the 5.1 driver to which I don't think anyone has responded. I bring it up again since it may have gone unnoticed as it was at the bottom of an email with a separate subject line: Ever since updating to the 5.1 driver on my PBG3 Lombard -- when I mount my Compact Flash card from my digital camera (through a PCMCIA card adapter) the wireless driver seems to take over and assumes that the device is my PCMCIA Orinoco card: the menubar icon shows up, and the flash card no longer mounts onto the desktop like it 'should' and I cant gracefully eject the card. Is this a limitation of the new wireless driver (version 4 seemed to leave my camera card alone) or maybe I've misconfigured something? Once 5.1 came out I thought I needed it for functionality with Jaguar, but others seem to have success with the instructions for modifying version 4, which I think I have saved somewhere. Maybe I could go back to version 4 under OS 10.2? (The OS X built-in photo-download-utility-thingy does come up asking if I want to download pictures, but this only allows crude manipulation of ALL pictures, and I like to be able to scan through them first as on a separately mounted drive. Plus there's the problem of not being able to properly unmount and eject the compact flash/PCMCIA card...) Any suggestions? As always, thanks to the developers and list members who generously donate their time and expertise to helping folks like me! :0) |

Thanks a lot Charly, I was on the phone with Apple, and they confirmed that one of my antennas are probably not giving a strong enough signal. However, the rep also suggested I don't bother with the Airport card and go for a PC-card solution (after he told me that this was not recommended or supported by apple), because having the antenna repaired still wouldn't do much for the signal strength. The problem with the PowerBook G4's antennas is that they are poorly positioned and of course being enclosed in a titanium shell doesn't really help. Apparently this has been improved in the later model PowerBooks (mines a first generation) but the bottom line is that if i want to use the internet at a greater range, a third party card or a retrofitted antenna would be the most viable solutions, as this puts the antenna outside the computer's metal case. Anyways, hope this info helps someone, Thanks again, Farhad. Hi, to the best of my understanding (I might be wrong) the current beta_5 driver doesn't support WEP. I use a Farallon SkyLine 11mbps, with an Access Point from SMC, and am quite satisfied with both. I'm not sure there is such a thing as "best card". I believe they are all alike more or less. The effective distance depends on a number of factors: - I understand that the AirPort card in your PB G4 is located under the keyboard, and that's not an ideal solution, but it should not cut at 30 feet. Anyway, the PB should not be resting on a metallic, or metallic-like surface. - the location of the Airport Station (if that's what you use) can be critical. It should be, ideally, as high as possible in your house, and not shielded by metallic surfaces, or by walls containing metallic rods. - the vicinity of pulse emitting devices (TV sets, microwave ovens, you name it you have it) doesn't contribute to good and clean wireless propagation. - all this, of course, makes for a lot of ideal and not ideal conditions, and one has to face realities. Other users in this list have reported good results with Orinoco, SMC and other cards which I do not remember at the moment. I'm sure you will get more information from other users. Looking back through the archives I guess there was an issue with Linksys cards changing their identification codes or something. Here's what I see: "VersionOneInfo" = ("Instant Wireless "," Network PC CARD","Version 01.02","") Here's what I see in CVS ( http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/wirelessdriver/WirelessDriver/nuWireless/WirelessDriver2/WirelessDriver2.pbproj/project.pbxproj?rev=1.2&content-type=text/vnd.viewcvs-markup ): <key>Linksys WPC11</key> <dict> ... <key>VersionOneInfo</key> <array> <string>The Linksys Group, Inc.</string> <string>Instant Wireless Network PC Card</string> <string>ISL37300P</string> </array> </dict> Is this why my card doesn't work? Next, select PRINT in whatever app you're working in. In the widow that opens, select Edit Printer List. In here, click the Add button. Select IP Printing. Enter your printer's IP address. Choose the sort of printer you're printing to. And that should put you in business. Hi, I'm in the market for a 802.11b PC card for use with my PowerBook G4. Unfortunately, the airport card cuts out at approx 30 feet, because of the poor antennas and metal casing in the computer, so an apple rep suggested this website. So before i go out and buy a card, i'd like to know if anyone has suggestions on which card works best with the open source drivers (and supports 128-bit WEP). Also, i'd like to know how compatible the drivers are with OSX 10.2. Thanks a lot, Farhad. -- Farhad Pocha =========== po...@mc... |

Can someone please tell me how I might print to my laser printer, which is connected via ethernet to my airport. My Lombard PB is using a SkyLine (Farallon) card and the beta 5 driver with OS 10.2.1. I've seen the group refer to printing via TCP/IP, but I don't know how to do it. Thanks. Joe |

I have been able to use the WirelessDriver with my TiBook/400 and an Orinoco Gold card to connect to my desktop running Software Base Station. I have not been able to use 128-bit encryption because I don't know how to get the WEP key from the Software Base Station (I believe the FAQ only deals with actual basestations). Any ideas? Thanks, Mike |
