Hello, I am having trouble configuring my wireless Orinoco card. I downloaded and installed the driver, but the instructions tell me to select "en1" as my configuration port...that port is not showing up. I only have the three other ones. What do I do? thanks, Tanya |

Have tried several time to install Wireless Driver on Wallstreet with Orinoco Silver card. Have installed, uninstalled, reinstalled, run load from terminal and swept cache per previous recommendation on list to no avail. Driver does not appear in network pane nor do EN1 or EN2 options appear if I try to load manually Details below. FAQ states to manually load via terminal to type: > sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext This failed as shown below. Don't you mean: > sudo kextload /System/Library/Extensions/MacWireless80211bPCCard.kext as this is the only wireless driver file I could find in System/Extensions? Making this correction yielded. > Last login: Fri Mar 28 21:07:10 on console > Welcome to Darwin! > [Powerbook:~] stephenf% sudo kextload > /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext > Password: > kextload: /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext: no such > bundle file exists > can't add kernel extension > /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext (file > access/permissions) (run kextload on this kext with -t for diagnostic > output) > [Powerbook:~] stephenf% sudo kextload > /System/Library/Extensions/MacWireless80211bPCCard.kext > kextload: /System/Library/Extensions/MacWireless80211bPCCard.kext > loaded successfully > [Powerbook:~] stephenf% sudo rm -f /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache > [Powerbook:~] stephenf% sudo rm -f /System/Library/Extensions.mkext > > [Powerbook:~] stephenf% So appears to have loaded. Still no pref pane under network, nor did EN1 or EN2 options appear in Network pane. Then ran diagnostic script in FAQ with these results: > Last login: Fri Mar 28 21:09:41 on ttyp1 > /Users/stephenf/Desktop/Troubleshooting\ Info.command; exit > Welcome to Darwin! > [Powerbook:~] stephenf% /Users/stephenf/Desktop/Troubleshooting\ > Info.command; exit > > ### kext versions > > Index Refs Address Size Wired Name (Version) <Linked > Against> > 23 2 0x1221f000 0x20000 0x1f000 > com.apple.iokit.IOPCCardFamily (1.3.0) > Index Refs Address Size Wired Name (Version) <Linked > Against> > > ### system info > > ProductName: Mac OS X > ProductVersion: 10.2.3 > BuildVersion: 6G30 > Darwin Powerbook.local. 6.3 Darwin Kernel Version 6.3: Sat Dec 14 > 03:11:25 PST 2002; root:xnu/xnu-344.23.obj~4/RELEASE_PPC Power > Macintosh powerpc > ppc750 > /bin:/sbin:/usr/bin:/usr/sbin > > ### wireless driver files installed > > drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Nov 6 00:04 IOPCCardFamily.kext > drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Mar 27 21:24 AppleAirPort.kext > drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Mar 27 21:24 AppleAirPortFW.kext > drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Mar 24 11:42 > MacWireless80211bPCCard.prefPane > /bin/ls: /usr/local/bin: No such file or directory > > ### wirelesscard info > > | | "VersionOneInfo" = ("Lucent > Technologies","WaveLAN/IEEE","V$ > | +-o pccard@13 <class IOPCIDevice> > | | | "device_type" = <"pccard"> > | | | "name" = <"pccard"> > | +-o pccard@13,1 <class IOPCIDevice> > | | "device_type" = <"pccard"> > | | "name" = <"pccard"> > | | +-o pccard156,2@1,0 <class IOPCCard16Device> > | | "IOName" = "pccard156,2" > > ### network info > > lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384 > inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 > inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1 > inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 > gif0: flags=8010<POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST> mtu 1280 > stf0: flags=0<> mtu 1280 > en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 > inet6 fe80::205:2ff:fe89:c2da%en0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x4 > ether 00:05:02:89:c2:da > media: autoselect (none) status: inactive > supported media: none autoselect 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex> > 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> 100baseTX <half-duplex> 100baseTX > <full-duplex> > ppp0: flags=8051<UP,POINTOPOINT,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 > inet 63.74.181.173 --> 208.223.150.130 netmask 0xff000000 > > ### wd command line tool status > > /Users/stephenf/Desktop/Troubleshooting Info.command: > /usr/local/bin/WirelessConfig: No such file or directory > logout > [Process completed] Appears to see card and identify correctly but not sure where to go from here. Hello, I have a Lombard Powerbook and USRobotics WirelessLan PCCard. The wireless driver loads, I can check the signal, I can connect to the basestation without WEP, but when I insert an WEP key, the card can't connect to basestation any longer ... What is the WEP status in the WirelessDriver ? Thanks Luis Flores |

I've got an Orinoco Gold card plugged into my PowerBook G4 (667mhz, non-DVI) running 6I32 (10.2.4) - it seems to be detected and everything looks about right, except I can't connect to anything. I can type in the name of a network, but it doesn't seem to ever register any signal at all. This is what the output of the troubleshoot script looks like, slightly edited to protect the innocent: (note that I copied the command line tool to /usr/local/bin by hand) ### kext versions Index Refs Address Size Wired Name (Version) <Linked Against> 31 1 0x25e0f000 0x20000 0x1f000 com.apple.iokit.IOPCCardFamily (1.3.0) Index Refs Address Size Wired Name (Version) <Linked Against> 67 0 0x1d788000 0xe000 0xd000 org.noncontiguous.WirelessDriver (1.0b5) ### system info ProductName: Mac OS X ProductVersion: 10.2.4 BuildVersion: 6I32 Darwin dangspot.local. 6.4 Darwin Kernel Version 6.4: Wed Jan 29 18:50:42 PST 2003; root:xnu/xnu-344.26.obj~1/RELEASE_PPC Power Macintosh powerpc ppc7450 /usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/Users/eric:/usr/X11R6/bin:/opt/local/bin ### wireless driver files installed drwxr-xr-x 3 root admin 102 Mar 27 16:30 SigMeter.app drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Mar 27 16:30 WirelessDriver.kext drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Nov 5 22:04 IOPCCardFamily.kext drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Nov 29 17:20 AppleAirPort.kext drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Jan 29 20:00 AppleAirPort2.kext drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Nov 29 17:20 AppleAirPortFW.kext /bin/ls: /Library/PreferencePanes: No such file or directory drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Mar 27 16:30 WirelessDriver PPane.prefPane -rwxr-xr-x 1 root wheel 102844 Mar 27 16:34 WirelessConfig ### wirelesscard info | | | "VersionOneInfo" = ("Lucent Technologies","WaveLAN/IEEE","V$ | | | "VersionOneInfo" = ("Lucent Technologies","WaveLAN/IEEE") | | +-o pccard156,2@0,0 <class IOPCCard16Device> | | | "IOName" = "pccard156,2" ### network info lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384 inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 gif0: flags=8010<POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST> mtu 1280 stf0: flags=0<> mtu 1280 en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet6 fe80::203:93ff:fe68:175e%en0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x5 inet6 3ffe:2f00:1000:ca28:203:93ff:fe68:175e prefixlen 64 autoconf inet6 3ffe:501:ffff:1000:203:93ff:fe68:175e prefixlen 64 autoconf inet 192.168.42.97 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 192.168.42.255 ether 00:03:93:68:17:5e media: autoselect (100baseTX <full-duplex>) status: active supported media: none autoselect 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex,hw-loopback> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 100baseTX <half-duplex> 100baseTX <half-duplex,hw-loopback> 100baseTX <full-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 1000baseTX <full-duplex> 1000baseTX <full-duplex,hw-loopback> 1000baseTX <full-duplex,flow-control> 1000baseTX <full-duplex,flow-control,hw-loopback> en1: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet6 fe80::230:65ff:fe03:475d%en1 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x6 ether 00:30:65:03:47:5d media: autoselect (<unknown type>) status: inactive supported media: autoselect en2: flags=8822<BROADCAST,SMART,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 tunnel inet --> ether 00:02:2d:a5:cc:a4 media: <unknown type> supported media: none manual autoselect DS1 <half-duplex> DS1 <full-duplex> DS2 <half-duplex> DS2 <full-duplex> DS5 <half-duplex> DS5 <full-duplex> DS11 <half-duplex> DS11 <full-duplex> ### wd command line tool status Network Name: xyz, successful: Y Status: Network: xyz WEP Enabled:NO Signal Strength:0 |

Taken from the Airport Help file (one of OS X many hidden features) : If you forget the base station or network password, you can reset your=20= AirPort Base Station and reassign it. To reset the base station: While the base station is plugged in, insert the end of a straightened=20= paper clip into the small hole on the back of the base station. Press=20 and hold for 1 second. The AirPort Base Station and network passwords=20 are reset to "public." Use the AirPort tab in the AirPort Admin Utility to change passwords=20 and rename your base station. =A0 If you do not make your changes within 5 minutes, you must reset the=20 base station again. //Rob On torsdag, mar 27, 2003, at 20:55 Europe/Stockholm, Michael Mell wrote: > The FAQ at > http://wirelessdriver.sourceforge.net/faq.html#airport > says: > > The Airport Admin Utility works fine with our driver. > > The Airport Setup Assistant and Internet Connect App > > do not work with the WirelessDriver(see below for workaround). > > The workaround mentioned seems to apply only to the Internet Connect=20= > App. > > In order to run the Airport Admin Utility, I need a password. The FAQ at http://wirelessdriver.sourceforge.net/faq.html#airport says: > The Airport Admin Utility works fine with our driver. > The Airport Setup Assistant and Internet Connect App > do not work with the WirelessDriver(see below for workaround). The workaround mentioned seems to apply only to the Internet Connect App. In order to run the Airport Admin Utility, I need a password. It seems the password is set in the Setup Assistant. How can I set the Airport Basestation password without the Setup Assistant? This is on a G3 Powerbook, Lomard, with OS10.2. Many thanks, mike |

Wondering if someone could help me... I am trying to get my Buffalo WLI-PCM-LL11-GP3 wireless PCMCIA card to work with my Powerbook G3/333 (bronze keyboard). I am running OS 10.2.4. I have installed the wireless drivers fine and the card is detected and available as en2 but I cannot get it to pick up an address from DHCP. I am connecting to my Belkin AP using WEP128 and this seems to be ok (I get signal strength and its MAC address returned). Whenever I look at the TCP/IP settings pane it shows an unsuitable IP address (which it says is self-assigned). I am probably missing something simple - help!! Mark. |

Unfortunately, judging by the BSD driver, there are a few significant differences. The Symbol firmware can't handle being reset more than once, and the way it enables WEP is similar to Prism 2 rather than Lucent. |

Ok, I got a D-Link 650H PC 802.11b card today, but alas I can not get it to work. I tried pretty much everything that I've read on this list to get it to work, but it just will not come up as En1 in the network panel. My powerbook sees it (it comes up as a PC card in the menu bar, and it has what kind of card it is in that menu.) I tried running the troubleshooting program and it looks like the drivers do not see it since I never saw it listed. The wirelessconfig script comes up with this: WirelessDriver: Couldn't find a WirelessDriver service in registry - is the card loaded? And now I have overwritten the Apple supplied PCCard driver with the old one off sourceforge and will have to hunt it down off my 10.2 CD. Is there any hope for my card, or do I just need to buy another one that has been tested to work? Thanks, Matthew Rogers -------------------- Matthew Rogers rog...@be... Look where the Wireless PrefPane is installed. It should be in=20 /Library/PreferencePanes/ folder and not anywhere else. If it is not=20 then locate it and place it there. If it is then you have to use a=20 cache cleaner app (like Cache Out X) and let it delete the system cache=20= files. Hello all- I have a PowerBook G3/266 with an Orinoco Silver WiFi card and am running Mac OS 10.1.5 I downloaded and installed the Beta 4 version of the WirelessDriver for Mac OS 10.1.x. My Linksys 4 port wireless router (802.11b version) is up and running and communicates just fine with the PowerBook and Orinoco card, but the WirelessConfig System Preference has never appeared in the System Preferences window. I understand that my connection will still work because I'm on an open network, but it would still be nice to have it just to see what my signal strength is! Any ideas on how to get the WirelessConfig system preference to appear? Thanks, Steve |

A resistor. It prevents the Airport card from being recognized in a standard slot. At the time that Airport was released, Apple was selling the cards at a loss, and didn't want to subsidize PC users. These days, it's a little silly. Amanda Walker |

I just did it, the internal airport card slot works with a wavelan silver. Computer is a PowerBook Pismo, card does not fit neatly but will go in and is seen as an apple airport card. trying to do the previously mention wep update trick. |

The WirelessDriver FAQ states: >Note: You *cannot* replace the internal Airport card on a PowerBook or >iBook with a PCCard. The Airport cards use a proprietary bus that is much >closer in design to an IDE interface than a PCCard and could cause >hardware failure if attempted. However Orinoco silver cards, and apparently similar clones, can be converted from 64 bit WEP to 128 bit WEP by putting them in the AirPort slot of a Mac and running a version 2.x AirPort installer. The cards will then operate in either a Mac or PCs PC Card slot at 128 bit WEP. The cards will also work as AirPort cards in the Mac's AirPort slot (although the Mac's case normally cannot be closed with the "silver" card in place as the attached antenna makes it too big). Info here: <http://www.paris-sansfil.net/index.php/UpgradeSilverToGoldEn> So why does the FAQ say you cannot use a PC card in the AirPort slot? How exactly does an AirPort card differ from an Orinoco card? |

I had the same problem when installing the software as well. What I did was expand the Wirelessdriver.mpkg by right-clicking and selecting show contents Then I installed each component separately.. This seemed to work..you may have to use the CLT to assure that everything got installed in its proper place. I placed WirelessConfig.app and SigTerm.app in /Applications > Message: 1 > Date: Wed, 19 Mar 2003 08:01:15 -0800 > From: mark riedy <bac...@at...> > To: <wir...@li...> > Subject: [Wirelessdriver-support] Bronze keyboard (non-firewire) G3 + OS X + Orinoco Silver Card > > Hello > > I've got a bronze keyboard, non-firewire powerbook G3 > > I'm using an Orinoco Silver card and a non-Airport basestation. > > I've just installed OS X > > I've also downloaded the wireless config app and installed it. > > I see the control panel for the app but that's it. I've just installed OS X I've also downloaded the wireless config app and installed it. I see the control panel for the app but that's it. I don't see how to add it to the TCP/IP panel or anything else. Any suggestions? Thanks Mark -- Mark Riedy Senior Editor Bicycling Magazine |

Does anyone know whether it is yet possible to use the Farallon Skyline 11 wireless card to link a blue & white G3 desktop machine to an Airport network under Mac OS 10.2.3 or later? Is there an alternative solution (including some other wireless card)? Please help. My wife has been mad at me since I upgraded to Jaguar and she lost her Web surfing capabilities. :-) Replies, please, to <mailto:bh...@in...>. Thanks.
