When I first installed the beta5 driver, after updating to Jaguar, I had to install/restart twice in a row before getting the (en1) port, and having the card recognized and working. Farallon SkyLine 11mbps. It is still working fine under 10.2.6. There is a shell script that will try to diagnoze the problem, and help knwowledgeable people in this list (I am not one of them) come up with suggestions. The shell script is included in the beta5 package, in the 'Utilities' folder. When you run that script in the Terminal, it will generate an output that you could post to the list. Charly |

Dear Fellow Wireless OSX-ers I am trying to get my old G3 Lombard running osx 10.2.6 to talk to my new airport extreme base station using this wireless driver - I am unable (probably due to lack of experience with this technology) to get it all to happen - can you help me out ? - the drivers show in the sys pref pane but don't pick up the network - the card is a pcmcia farallon skyline 802.11b IEEE PN473 11mbps card and i am still able to connect through a hardwired ethernet cable to the outside world (so if there are updates !!!!?.....) - I don't seem to be able to get the base station to allow me to turn off security without the whole network going down. cheers Andy |

Some other bugs in the system so I ended up installing osx again...everything good but when i install the wireless driver my network option are for Built in ethernet only and I cant find the en setting anywhere...not sure where to go from here? any help would be appreciated |

Make sure the drivers are installed properly. The wirelessdriver.kext must be in /System/Library/Extensions/ and the WirelessDriver PPane.prefPane should be in /Library/PreferencePanes/ After you have installed the drivers you should remove the Extensions.kextcache and Extensions.mkext files which are located in the /System/Library/ folder. You have to use the sudo rm -r (filename) command in the terminal to be able to remove the files. And then restart the computer. Second make sure the card is recognized by the computer by selecting Network in the System Preferences. And look under Show Networkport Configuration. If it's not you might need to edit the plist file. It is described in the FAQ how to do that. Lastly when the card is recognized and blinking you have to open the WirelessDriver preference pane and then enter the name of the WLAN network. It depends on how your WLAN router is setup. Disable WEB and password settings. //Rob On torsdag, maj 8, 2003, at 06:55 Europe/Stockholm, Gregg Gunkel wrote: > I installed build version 1.0.0b5 and did not get any connectivity > with a DLink DWL 650+. I installed build version 1.0.0b5 and did not get any connectivity with a DLink DWL 650+. The pilot light barely glowed and the after removing the card it was quite warm. What have I done wrong? The Wireless Config control does not register any signal from the DLink DI-614+. While the Wallstreet PB G3 does not have an internal airport slot, should the PCMCIA slot actively register? Is there any reliance upon the OSX airport drivers or does the Wireless Config operate independently? Gregg Gunkel 342 A St. Redwood City, CA 94063 650-367-1624 |

Steve: You may have done this but launch from your OSX CD and run the Repair Permissions and Disk First aid utility. I don't know that this will solve your problem but I've heard it should always be done after installing anything new. On a slightly different note: I used to run MacJanitor to do routine maintenance but that program doesn't seem to have been updated. Having said that, I have not checked in the near recent past... First of all upgrade MacOS X to 10.2.5 (the PCcard support is somewhat=20= broken in 10.2). You have to use the Wirelessdrive 1.0.0b5 as the=20 previous version doesn't work in OS X 10.2.x. The Wireless driver=20 1.0.0b5 installer is broken and installs some components in the wrong=20 places. Use Pacifist to install the packages manually. The Wirlessdriver.kext should be installed in=20 /System/Library/Extensions/ The WirelessDriver PPane.prefPane should be installed in=20 /Library/PreferencePanes/ You don't have to install the Sigmeter.app as it is broken in that=20 build anyway and doesn't work. Once you have done it restart the computer and check if you can see the=20= wireless card in the Network port select. If not open up the terminal=20 and navigate to /System/Library/ (cd /System/Library/) and delete the=20 Extensions.kextcache and Extensions.mkext (sudo rm -r=20 Extensions.kextcache and sudo rm -r Extensions.mkext) after you have=20 done this restart the computer. The en1 port should now be visible in=20 the network port configuration. //Rob On l=F6rdag, maj 3, 2003, at 20:19 Europe/Stockholm, bu...@po...=20= wrote: > On Fri, 2 May 2003 bu...@po... wrote: > > Good afternoon again. Hi, I've been trying to get the latest version (beta5.1) installed but despite following some suggestions in the FAQ and manual intervention, no success. Here brief description followed by a pasted troubleshooting script output. I installed a clean 10.2 on a re-formatted PowerBook G3 Pismo. Added the 10.2.5 update Added the Developer package Installed the Netgear 401RA card - card is detected - card is 'Green' meaning it found the network (I have a Netgear base station which my G4 with Airport card works fine with, the 401RA card also works fine when installed in a IBM kaptop) Rebooted Ran the package installer for WirelessDriverBeta5.1 - installed claimed it was successful but it did not install WirelessDriver.kext in /System/Library/Extensions Ran the installer a 2nd time - again, did not install via the mpkg Ran the installer on Installers/WirelessDriver.pgk - complained that I could not install on the 'Macintosh HD' - used the 'Back' button, reselected and then it installed the driver Rebooted, driver is not loaded Ran 'System Preferences' - only the build-in ethernet port is shown Followed the manual load via kextload - driver is loaded but does not install a en network interface - 'System Preferences' only shows build-in ethernet Rebooted the machine - results as above Followed the FAQ instructions and edited Info.plist to add the 401 card details Rebooted Manual load of the kext - results as above Here is the troubleshooting script output. Hopefully this provides some clues. Thanx for any suggestions. Last login: Fri May 2 20:59:01 on ttyp2 /Users/roland/Desktop/Troubleshooting\ Info.command; exit Welcome to Darwin! Good afternoon: I had 1.0.0b4 running with Jaguar (10.2.1 to 10.2.5) on a Wall Street Powerbook and a Lucent Orinoco Gold card fine from Oct to yesterday. Yesterday I upgraded to 1.0.0b5 and the app fails to work at all: the fields in the WirelessConfig are greyed out and non-selectable. The Installer did not report an error during install. I've rebooted the system since installing 1.0.0b5. There is no longer an option for EN1 in the Network system preferences pane. The status lights on the Lucent card do not flicker now, as they did before the upgrade yesterday. I have a grey and a white Apple Airport basestation, neither has WEP encryption turned on. No problem conencting to them with 1.0.0b4 up thorugh yesterday. I've read the FAQ, and am not sure what to do now. I'd appreciate any suggestions you might have. I include the output of the troubleshooting script below. ----begin----------------- Last login: Fri May 2 14:11:22 on console /Volumes/WirelessDriver\ beta\ 5.1/Utilities/Troubleshooting\ Info.command; exit Welcome to Darwin! Any clues on this one? I've successfully installed the wirelessdriver. I have a Farallon 11 card. I have OS 10.2.5 installed. I have an older Airport. Also cable modem. I can go wireless on the internet in OS 9.x only. In OS 10.2.5, it won't get online, although it shows the wireless network strength as good. Any ideas how to get it to work in OS X? Jody |

hi i read in the developers list that someone used the bsd-airtools (http://www.dachb0den.com/projects/bsd-airtools.html) with the wirelessdriver. is there any documentation about it? on their website dachbodenlabs are writing about recompiling the darwin kernel. is there another way to use the bsd-airtools or how do i recompile the kernel? regards bjoern kah __________________________________________________________________ Gesendet von Yahoo! i solved the problem. got the sourcecode via cvs. opened the WirelessConfig projectfile in projectbuilder modified it: in the folder "Classes" the following classes are enabled: UCWDAccess.h UCWDAccess.h in the folder "Other Sources": all, but removed the file "main.m" compiled it and extracted the file "WirelessConfig" from "WirelessConfig.app"... now it works in the commandline: Wirelessconfig -h --- bjoern kah <bjo...@ya...> schrieb: > hi > > i am trying to use the WirelessConfig commandline > interface. is there any documentation about it? > > when i run: "WirelessConfig -status" there always > pops > up the WirelessConfig window. is there a way to use > it > like wi or wiconfig? heres an perl-script example: > http://blackant.net/other/wireless/wicontrol-check > > or is there any other way to use scan-data in > realtime > in other applications? > > regards > > bjoern kah > > __________________________________________________________________ > > Gesendet von Yahoo! Well, i didn't actually notice the type until you pointed it out, anyway it wasn't enough to simply correct it, i needed to erase the Extensions.kextcache and Extensions.mkext files too. Right now the card is correctly working, i made some tests with another card too (a zyxel ZyAIR 100 - ftp://ftp.zyxel.com/ZyAIR_B-100/document/ZyAIR_B-100_V.2_Datasheet.pdf) and managed to make it work patching the info.plist file and again erasing the files and restarting. I noticed that the zyxel card isn't listed in the FAQ yet, unfortunately i still have no idea on how to test the wep functionality of the card, if someone can point me to some tutorial or give me some directions i would like to make some extensive testing. in the meanwhile i can say that basic functionality is supported. Thanks for your help so far! Hi, You may have already figured this out but your plist is wrong. According to your email your plist entry for the Netgear Card was "pccardib, 7300". However you added an i to plist entry which will cause your card not to work. It should be "pccardb, 7300". Try this correction and see if it works then. I suspect it will. -Rob __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. Bingo http://search.yahoo.com |

Hello Maybe it's just typo but it should stand "pccardb,7300" and not "pccardib,7300" in the info.plist file. Second do you have another card installed? In the ifconfig list there is en0 (ethernet interface) and en1 (your wireless card?). If you have more cards installed and that is not your wireless card listed in the ifconfig list you should put in your NetGear PCCard and then try deleting the Extensions.kextcache and Extensions.mkext files in the /System/Library/ folder and then restart the computer. Those files should be recreated but should now cache the wireless driver properly. //Rob On fredag, apr 18, 2003, at 20:00 Europe/Stockholm, Mr.Fletcher wrote: > Hi all, > i'm trying to make a NetGear MA401RA wireless card on my TiBook but i > have some problems... Hi all, i'm trying to make a NetGear MA401RA wireless card on my TiBook but i have some problems... The card is correctly seen as a pcmcia "device" and the driver seems to be correctly installed (the wireless config prefernce pane shows up, but is not active) but the card doesn't show up on the network preference pane nor in ifconfig on the console. I tried doing as someone (yuriwho) suggested on the mailing list and patched the info.plist file, adding my card to the pccard section: ioreg -l | grep pccard says: > | | +-o pccardb,7300@0,0 <class IOPCCard16Device> > | | "IOName" = "pccardb,7300" and my info.plist file says: <dict> <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key> <string>org.noncontiguous.WirelessDriver</string> <key>IOClass</key> <string>org_noncontiguous_WirelessDriver</string> <key>IONameMatch</key> <array> <string>pccard156,2</string> <string>pccard1eb,807</string> <string>pccard274,1613</string> <string>pccard274,1612</string> <string>pccard138,2</string> <string>pccardib,7300</string> </array> <key>IOProbeScore</key> <integer>1000</integer> <key>IOProviderClass</key> <string>IOPCCard16Device</string> </dict> i tried rebooting and removing the card with the computer turned on but still nothing seems to work. i include the output of the troubleshooting script, thank you very much for your help!!! I was looking through the archived messages of the wireless driver list = and noticed that back in November Farhad Pocha created a version of the = Sigmeter which uses the icons from Apple's Airport menu.
