Are there known 'working' PCI->PCMCIA bridges for OS 10.2.X? I am just borrowing one from work, and if I can order one online for 25-30 bucks that will work I'd be happy to do it. I did download the project and will try turning on the dubbing and see what that does. Thanks for the advice. -eric On Thu, May 29, 2003 at 03:18:32PM -0700, Rob McKeever wrote: > The problem here isn't with the WirelessDriver, it's with the lack of > support for your PCI to PCMCIA adapter in Apple's PCCard support > module. The problem here isn't with the WirelessDriver, it's with the lack of support for your PCI to PCMCIA adapter in Apple's PCCard support module. You can recompile this module with dubbing enabled and you should be able to get something working there, but it's still going to require some work to get the setup correct. -Rob On Thursday, May 29, 2003, at 11:07 Canada/Pacific, Eric Lundberg wrote: > Hi, I am trying to see if there is any support for running supported > PCMCIA cards in a normal desktop machine via a PCI->PCMCIA bridge. > > I downloaded the "Beta 5 for Jaguar" yesterday and tried it, but it > didn't load the driver. Hi, I am trying to see if there is any support for running supported PCMCIA cards in a normal desktop machine via a PCI->PCMCIA bridge. I downloaded the "Beta 5 for Jaguar" yesterday and tried it, but it didn't load the driver. That files looks pretty old, so I was wondering if perhaps support is just around the corner or what. So relevant info on my attempt: Running 10.2.5, 450G4 on a Gigabite board. Rom 3.4f1 I am using a Lucent PCI->PCMCIA card (015219 Rev. A(Rev 1.0)) Main chip is a PCI1410PGE On the card it has stamped: REV-2 7th July 2000 PCIC1CR20 P/N 901501 Apple System Profiler recognizes that I have a PC Card inserted [Displays: PCI->PCCard] Looking at the dmesg output I see: IOPCCard info: Mac OS X PCMCIA Card Services 3.1.22 IOPCCard info: options: [pci] [cardbus] [pnp] IOPCCardBridge::GetOFConfigurationSettings: failed to the configure machine IOPCCardBridge::getConfigurationSettings: unable to configure model name "PowerMac3,3". So it looks suspicously like the driver doesn't like the idea it is being loaded on non PowerBook. I went and modified the Info.plist in the driver file so that it had a PowerMac3,3 entry and rebooted, but it didn't like that either, same error. If I wanted to try and work out the configuration stuff would I need to download the src and rebuild the driver? Anyinfo would you useful, thanks! I might try the IOExperts driver tonight and see if it recognizes the card. -eric |

Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but... I'm interested in getting an Intersil USB device working on my OS X system but am unable to find a driver for it. Is there a version of the WirelessDriver that supports USB devices? If not, is there work being done to support USB? I'm a software developer with some experience writing device drivers for various OS. If there is no current driver, could someone please contact me about how I should go about writing one (what code could be reused). Thank you, Jason F. McCarty |

Hi Rob, Thanks for the info - it helps a bit; ie. I now know that it's not as simple as dropping the CIS file somewhere, tweaking a config file or two and rebooting :( Cheers, ~Iain On Sun, 25 May 2003, Rob McKeever wrote: > At one point last year, I talked to Sierra Wireless on the phone > (They're 15 minutes away from me by car) and offered to do a driver for > them if they'd give em a free unit and some technical info, but they > "didn't see a business case for it". This may be related to the AppleTalk issue. I have this fixed in the new development version I will be posting in the next day or so. I'll also try and port the fix back to the original driver for those that need/want it. -Rob On Monday, May 26, 2003, at 09:41 Canada/Pacific, David Conrad wrote: > Has anyone had any luck printing with the new Airport Extreme base > station with the wireless drivers? A while back I mentioned that I had a new version that I have been working on for some time that has all of the missing features that everybody's been begging for. How many adventurous soles are there out there that would be interested in testing and/or bug fixing for a new and improved version? It's almost ready for general release. I'm having some minor issues with the PCCard interface still but the rest has been running stable for some time in a similar form with a USB interface (sorry - can't release the USB code due to the contract terms). There are one or two small issues I know of that are being worked on still, but it does support WEP on all Intersil PRISM cards and can do the same for WaveLAN and Airport cards with some small changes. It also supports network scanning on newer firmware (I haven't looked into the differences between new and old firmware, so I won't guarantee that yet). Anyone interested should drop me line so I have a current list. I'll be ready to drop code to those willing/able to assist with the final bits sometime tomorrow (Monday) evening. A general release likely won't be far behind. -Rob ro...@ma... |

At one point last year, I talked to Sierra Wireless on the phone (They're 15 minutes away from me by car) and offered to do a driver for them if they'd give em a free unit and some technical info, but they "didn't see a business case for it". Oh well... I've talked with a half a dozen or so people around who want this working as well. The issue here is that OS X rejects all PCCards that register as multifunction devices without further consideration unless you specifically override that behavior with a custom enabler. It really shouldn't be too difficult, but it requires some knowledge of PCCard CIS structures, etc. Hope that helps, -Rob On Sunday, May 25, 2003, at 19:44 Canada/Pacific, Iain MacDonnell wrote: > > Apologies for the slight abuse of this list, but I don't think I'm > *too* > far off-topic, and figure that if I'll find an answer anywhere, it'll > be here. > > I have a Sierra Wireless AirCard 550 1xRTT PC Card: > > http://www.sierrawireless.com/ProductsOrdering/AC5501xRTT.asp > > which I'd like to get working on my TiBook. Apologies for the slight abuse of this list, but I don't think I'm *too* far off-topic, and figure that if I'll find an answer anywhere, it'll be here. I have a Sierra Wireless AirCard 550 1xRTT PC Card: http://www.sierrawireless.com/ProductsOrdering/AC5501xRTT.asp which I'd like to get working on my TiBook. It's only officially supported on Windows, but I found some instructions (which since seem to have disappeared!) on Sierra's website for getting it to work under Linux. This involved use of the standard serial_cs kernel module and a CIS file (of which I have a copy). The following was added to the PCMCIA configuration to have it recognise the card: card "Sierra Wireless AirCard 550 A550 Rev 1" manfid 0x0192, 0xa550 cis "cis/SW_550_SER.dat" bind "serial_cs" How might I go about telling MacOS X.2 to recognise the card as a standard PC Card serial modem, and maybe to use the CIS file? I figure that if I get that in place, getting modem scripts to run PPP over it should be easy... TIA for any pointers! ~Iain |

Hello everyone, I am new to this group. First of all, I have to say this is a very great program for all of the OSX users out there wants wireless capability. I went on the website and found out it supports a lot of the 802.11b cards (11mbps) out there, however not much support for the 22mbps ones. Is there a plan to write those drivers? I personally have a d-link DWL 650+, if u guys need to beta-testing anything, let me know. Cheers, -Michael |

I am trying to install Wireless Driver and an Orinoco gold card. I followed the hint on these pages to option drag the mounted disc to the desktop to create a folder. The three files seem to be where they should be. The deviation from the installation instructions comes after rebooting: I have a Wireless Configuration icon but no en1 or en2. I tried using the onboard Ethernet, but that did not seem to work. The card power light blinks, and I have a usable Airport signal from a Netgear unit at the present location. The troubleshooting script is attached. Thanks for your assistance. John A. Dutton 240 Mt. Pleasant Drive Boalsburg PA 16827 |

Hi All, I'm trying to get a webcam set up to monitor a robin's nest, and I have a Wallstreet powerbook and a ADS Technology USB cardbus card that will work for connecting the webcam, but I also need to connect to the wireless network, and this USB card doesn't have a dongle; it has a big bump on the top to house the connectors. Unfortunately, the Lucent cards I have, also have a bump, and so there is physical interference. (You can't put them both in the PCMCIA slots simultaneously.) What cards work with the driver that are skinny enough to put two of them in the two slots of a Wallstreet powerbook. (I thought I had found a source of Farallon SkyLine cards, and that they would fit, but unfortunately, the source was sold out, and other sources were four or five times as expensive.) Any ideas? I've been happily running an Intersil prism WLAN card (Siemens I-Gate 11m). Since I upgraded to 10.2.6, however, the card hangs my machine when inserted. If I try to boot with the card in I get the same problem, take the card out and everything returns to normal. Upgraded to 5.1 of the software too and despite following all the terminal instructions available and numerous reloads and reboots I can't get the EN1 to appear in network preferences. Not certain if these are related problems but any support here would be greatly appreciated. Carl |

I know this isn't exactly what you were asking about, but the IOXperts 802.11b Driver supports AppleTalk when used with an access point which also supports AppleTalk. I know from reading the FAQ that Appletalk is a non starter at this point, but since I just went wireless with my business network, and got my office computer (wallstreet powerbook) set up with the wireless driver, let me first say thank you for helping a vintage machine continue on into the next century and OS. And secondly, is there a workaround to printing at this point? I have a HP printer running off of an HP print server (ethernet) and wondered if there is a way to use IP to somehow work around the Appletalk problem. If you boot in OS9 using the airport software, can you then print, or can you print using applications from within Classic? Appreciate any help, or any idea when Appletalk may be incorporated into the driver. -mark Mark Henderson PILHOFER | HENDERSON MUSIC ma...@pi... www.pilhofer-henderson.com 952.210.4801 |

I recently re-partitioned my Powerbook G3 HD and had the same problems running a valid installation. Why? Because I executed the installer from the mounted .DMG! The .kext was never installed. Solution: Option-drag the mounted disk to your desktop. It may still look the same, but it is actually a FOLDER, not a hard drive. Now execute the installer from the folder and everything should install correctly. Run the Troubleshooting utility to verify that the 3 files are installed correctly and you have en1 with a valid IP address.
