On a side note Jamie, Your 2.421 update isn't being auto-updated since it sees it as 2.420... perhaps the version number wasn't updated in the release? David Coley Codecipher -----Original Message----- From: web...@li... [mailto:web...@li...] On Behalf Of Joe Cooper Sent: Friday, October 28, 2005 6:21 PM To: web...@li... You're not downloading anything more than the progress page from Webmin to your own client machine--you're triggering a download on your Webmin server. Webmin has its own progress indicator, and if you don't see it begin downloading and reporting the percentages in the browser window the download is not starting at all and that is the source of your trouble. It is possibly a firewall, as Vernon mentioned, or just as likely DNS trouble--you can find out by trying a download from the command line using wget, just as Vernon and I pointed out in the last couple of messages...try it, please, and get back to us with the result. This is not a bug in Webmin that anyone else is seeing, nor is it a problem on the download servers, so repeatedly telling us "it doesn't work" isn't going to do any good. The problem is on your machine, and we're trying to help you solve it. Help us help you, or we'll never get anywhere. What happens when you run: wget http://internap.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/webadmin/webmin-1.240.tar.gz (All on one line.) If it works (I'll be surprised) then the problem is somewhere in Webmin and we'll need to look a bit deeper. But I'm betting you'll either get a host not found error indicating that your DNS is improperly configured, or it will just hang for a while and eventually time out indicating either a too-strict firewall or routing trouble. In either case, we'll know where to start working on the problem. ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by the JBoss Inc. This problem is fixed if you do a fresh install of the latest virtualmin, but
if you upgraded from an older release you may see it if your signup email
template is incorrect. The important line is :
MySQL login: ${USER}
Which should be changed to :
MySQL login: ${MYSQL_USER}

There all setup as in virtualusertable If I remember my mail setup correctly, that just pushes the e-mail to the user's regular e-mail location so should use the .forward file still. How is this alias set up exactly? If it is set to \fflintstone in the /etc/aliases file (called Mailbox of User fflintstone in Webmin), then this will bypass any .forward file that is used for an auto-responder.. How is this alias set up exactly? If it is set to \fflintstone in the /etc/aliases file (called Mailbox of User fflintstone in Webmin), then this will bypass any .forward file that is used for an auto-responder.. However, an alias to ffl...@my... should work OK. - Jamie |

Oops... no, the *.conf files were NOT backed up by the webmin config backup script. Maybe because webmin typically doesn't store per domain non acl config files? I figured out that, for whatever reason, when I "recovered" the webmin
config, the *.conf files in /etc/webmin/webalizer/ did not get recovered
along with the acl files.
This is strange, because they were backed up...
Virtualmin only turns Webalizer on and off for a module - customizing
the feature set for each domain requires going into the webmin webalizer
module itself... it would be nice if we could directly access individual
configuration settings from within the modele.

I have a client using Webmin 1.240 They use Vacation all the time due to an internal policy saying they need let the client know at least once a day that the person is going to be out of the office Despite my recommendations against it (I hate vacation replies personally) the policy remains. The issue is as follows: User fred He has two e-mail addresses ffl...@my... and an alias: fre...@my... that points to fflinstone E-mail being sent to fflinstone is being vacation replied properly. E-mail being sent to fred.flinstone is not being vacation replied. Is there any way to fix this? Is it a bug in vacation or a configuration issue? I know Vacation setups up aliases that put it through the vacation program, however it's worked in similar setups in the past. David Coley Codecipher |

Hi Cory,
For question 1, the problem is most likely that Webmin cannot detect that BIND is running because it is looking in the wrong place for the PID file. Try locating the file named.pid on your system, and then clicking on the Module Config link and adjusting the field that contains the PID file.
For question 2, yes Webmin does have a built-in list of the root nameservers. This works OK because they very rarely change, in order to preserve compatability with existing DNS servers. However, Webmin can also download the root zone file via FTP from the authorative source, which is even better..
For question 3, check out one of the books on Webmin, such as my own or Joe's :-)

Ok dont know if this is the place to do this at.
I am setting up a BIND server using webmin.
I have put in all the information that is suppose to go in..e.g. the address name, cname, MX all that.
When i click on start server my webmin page refreshes and loads, but it still says start server the button did not change to stop server?
why is this and how do i fix it. (question one)
How do i point my BIND to the main root servers if i click on root zone it gives me the option to re-download root nameservers...Does webmin and BIND know what the IPs of the root servers are automatically without me typing anything in? (question 2)
Is there a great website that walks you through step by step option by option? (question 3)
Thanks for any help

The virtualmin notice sent out to users will allow a username longer than 16 chars for mysql. *MySQL* *usernames* can be up to a maximum of 16 *characters* long. This *limit* is hard-coded in the *MySQL* servers and clients, and trying to cirumvent it by *... I don't recall editing this area in the notice? Hi Jamie, I noticed that the module allows me to give two different users the same alias. This isn't the behaviour desired in my case. Is there any way of stopping this by checking if the alias already exists? I suppose that would involve an LDAP search for the requested new alias of all users under that domain and accepting it if it didn't already exist. Regards Murray |

Just a minor correction: Mepis is a Debian-based distro. RPMs probably aren't the way to go. ;-) But it does sound like there's probably something preventing the download from working, and testing an http request with wget is the first step to debugging the problem. I haven't had any problems with my updates lately, or with other SourceForce hosted downloads, so I'm guessing the SF.net download mirror system is the cause of the trouble. Vernon J. At the moment, the module doesn't support that kind of parameter substitution. Instead, you can only use SQL like: select * from foo where bar = ?
