I'm re-posting this hoping for an answer. Figured it got lost in all the other excitement the first time I posted it. LQQk at the file name. Look at the rndc call in the named.conf file on the Linux box and LQQk at the file name. Sometimes it is rndc-key, sometimes rndckey, etc. John Hinton |

Hello, I have been pulling what is left of my hair out here :) Currently our primary DNS is running on a windows box using MS DNS. I am trying to get our secondary setup on a Linux box running BIND and Webmin. I have allowed the IP of our Linux box in the windows DNS setup to do a zone transfer, yet I get the following error when I do a force update from within the bind module in Webmin: NDC command failed: rndc: connect failed: connection refused No entries in the system logs. I am not sure where to check from here. I do not believe there are any firewall issues involved here (although I could be very wrong). Thanks |

How is it that it is able to set cookies when only the IP Address is entered https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:10000 and not with the complete URL https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:10000/session_login.cgi?user=adminamp;pass=xxxxxxamp;log_account=10? Thanks a lot for the help. It worked fine for me. Another question is the first time I click the link https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:10000/session_login.cgi?user=adminamp;pass=xxxxxxamp;log_account=10 , it comes up with an error saying The page cannot be displayed There is a problem with the page you are trying to reach and it cannot be displayed. But if I just give the link https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:10000 and hit enter, it shows the login page which is fine. But after that clic k the above url with the username and password it works just fine. What is the reason it doesn't work initially ? Does it need to set any cookies? Why does it work the second method. Any help or suggestion is highly appreciated. Can I check the value of log_account or any other variable I pass? So can anyone explain how webmin's login process works and what file is executed after the login button on session_login.cgi has been clicked? The problem has been reported. I've also upgraded perl in the production environment to version 5.8.7 and the problem's been solved. (I also had to go & change owership on all of the previously created ~/.usermin directories & their subdirectories because they had all been created by the root user and Usermin wasn't able to modify them, since everything's being done by the correct user now.) All in all, though, issue solved. Hopefully Apple acts on my bug report. On 24 Oct 2005 08:51:59 +1000, Jamie Cameron <jca...@we...> wrote: > Hi Jason, > I agree, this is quite a serious Perl bug.. You can actually delete that file now, as once Webmin has used it to detect the OS it is not needed anymore. However, keeping it around isn't likely to cause any problems .. - Jamie |

OK in case anyone is following this I mis-spoke previosuly when I sai that the
recursion no; option would work. It did but it wouldn't let any mail go out from my
box either. I found something somewhere that stated that this was related to doing DNS
lookups outside my box and I have have a newtork of servers that are pointed at this
boxes DNS as a DNS server. The fix, or at least so I think so far, was to add the
following under options along with all the IPs from my other boxes:
allow-recursion { 192.168.10.111; };
Haven't seen a message yet I hope this works.

If anyone is interested I turned recursion off by using the following:
options {
recursion no;
}
I have no idea what the results to this will be but at least it's working.

The /etc/webmin/config file is as above except os_version=4.2. Actually, I thought of a better solution - just copy /etc/redhat-release to /etc/centos-release , go back to the operating system page, check the 'Use detected operating system' box and click Save. - Jamie |

Hi Jason, I agree, this is quite a serious Perl bug.. It would break many functions in Webmin, and open up a lot of security holes! Usermin would be even worse, all user operations (even in modules like the file manager) would be done as root! You might want to report this to Apple .. - Jamie On Mon, 2005-10-24 at 05:49, Jason Self wrote: > I agree. I have several servers setup either running Fedora Care 3 or Mepis = Migrationserver. When I go into webmin and try to upgrade to 1.240 = from either 1.210 or 1.230 previous. I get an error webmin cant = downgrade. No I am choosing to upgrade from www.webmin.com. =20 =20 I also get the same problem when I click on update from webmin.com well = not the downgrade error but it times out and want update. =20 Is there a way to fix this. =20 =20 Thanks =20 Cory |

I agree. I upgraded the test environment of OS X to version 10.4.2 (which includes a newer version of Perl among other stuff) and the cron jobs are created as the correct user. What's on the machine is the version of Perl shipped with Panther. This will affect, then, everyone using Webmin/Usermin with OS X 10.3.9 or earlier. I can't yet upgrade the production environment to anything later than 10.3.9, because there are some other outstanding issues with 10.4 and later versions (which I'm hoping will be addressed in 10.4.3 but that's a separate issue.) I guess, in the meantime, I will look into upgrading Perl on the copy of OS X that I have. Thanks for your time & assistance. I have a brand new install of OS X Server on a test machine. I could give you full root access to everything on the test box if it'd help (root login= , SSH access, Webmin, Usermin, etc.) I'm not too worried because it's only a test machine anyway and I can erase everything once done. :-) On 10/22/05, Jason Self <jas...@gm...> wrote: > > Nope. Nope. I enabled the module for Usermin and it displayed root's crontab (I recognized it immediately because mine is significantly different.) I created a new entry, then checked & it was also created in root's crontab. Interestingly, it didn't display _all_ of root's crontab. Yes, I definately will.. The problem with the Network Configuration module is that it is only supported on certain operating systems, like Redhat and CentOS. If Webmin cannot detect your OS properly, the module will not appear. If you switched the OS, make sure it is correctly displayed on Webmin's main menu - it should be displayed as 'CentOS 4.2'. Also, make sure that in the /etc/webmin/config file, there are lines like : os_type=redhat-linux os_version=10.0 real_os_type=CentOS Linux real_os_version=4.2 - Jamie |

Hmm .. perhaps there is a Usermin bug that only appears on OSX. If you use the Scheduled Cron Jobs module to create a job, does it get correctly run as the logged-in Usermin user? - Jamie On Sun, 2005-10-23 at 02:11, Jason Self wrote: > Yes; I've logged in as a test user I've created as well as myself. Probably on the latest upgrade of webmin. Any >ideas on how to fix it? > >TIA > > > > <important info for Jamie here> I asked Johnny Hughes about the release version file. It is official that using redhat-release is OK with Redhat. The file just can't contain any reference to redhat. So, at least for now, it looks like CentOS will use redhat-release in /etc. Whitebox did use their own release file. I wonder if that's still hanging around? wbel-release or whitebox-release.. I don't remember the name. I guess that could be causing issues? Beyond that, Jamie would best know how to handle this as obviously he knows Webmin inside and out. Do check your ACL list though, just to be sure the module didn't somehow get turned off for whatever user you operate under. And thanks again to Jamie for supporting these other OS's. I'm sure it's getting to be quite a list! Best, John Hinton |
