Hmm .. I presume you replaced MY_ROOT_PASSWORD with your actual MySQL root password? Also, which version of MySQL are you using there? - Jamei On Mon, 2005-11-21 at 10:40, Faisal Mehmood wrote: > This is what i get with BOTH the commans. > > [root@alpha ~]# mysql -u root -password=MY_ROOT_PASSWORD mysql > ERROR 1045 (28000): Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using > password: YES) > > [root@alpha ~]# mysqladmin -u root --password=ROOT_MYSQL_PASSWORD > status > mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed > error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: > YES)' > > > Faisal. > On 11/20/05, Craig White <cra...@az...> wrote: > On Mon, 2005-11-21 at 10:18 +1100, Jamie Cameron wrote: > > Ok .. how about if you run : > > > > mysqladmin -u root -password=ROOT_MYSQL_PASSWORD status > > > ---- > however this works > mysqladmin -u root --password=ROOT_MYSQL_PASSWORD status > note extra dash ^^ > > Craig > > > -- > This message has been scanned for viruses and > dangerous content by MailScanner, and is > believed to be clean. > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This SF.Net email is sponsored by the JBoss Inc. Oh Sorry Yeah Youre right. Figured that thing out. Works fine on IE. The basic problem still remains. The full MySQL error message was : connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Access denied for user 'interlinkage'@'localhost' (using password: YES)' It works fine when the password is set to none. It lets the user login. Thanks. Faisal. On 21 Nov 2005 10:32:42 +1100, Jamie Cameron <jca...@we...> wrote: > > On Mon, 2005-11-21 at 10:06, Faisal Mehmood wrote: > > Hi. > > > > Ok Jamie. Webmin uses that -password option in MySQL 4.1 and above, but perhaps it is not valid for the mysqladmin command. What happens if you run just : mysql -u root -password=MY_ROOT_PASSWORD mysql Does that login OK? - Jamie |

Hi. Jamie, there is something wrong with this module. I just deleted a server i.e. abc.com <http://abc.com>, (as i mentioned in my earlier mail) and now when i go to the user permissions of the MYSQL module logged in as the Master Admin, and i click on a server xyz.com <http://xyz.com> ... i see th= e username of abc.com <http://abc.com> in the username field ??!???!? how is that possible ? Thanks. Faisal. Hi. Ok Jamie. Here is the message generated. The full MySQL error message was : connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Access denied for user 'interlinkage'@'localhost' (using password: YES)' Another Problem i noticed in this NEW module is: When i click on a user Under the USer Permissions of the MYSQL module, (logged in as Master Admin) The window that opens up, changes the username to another user on the system. It shows up fine when the page loads for a second then it automatically changes. For example: I have two servers on the virtualmin. xyz.com <http://xyz.com> (user: xyz) and abc.com <http://abc.com> (user: abc) I added xyz.com <http://xyz.com> before abc.com <http://abc.com> So when i click on xyz username, the window opens for the user permissions to change the password and all, for a second it shows xyz under the usernam= e field, and this automatically changes to abc I thought this was kind of a wierd behaviour, this is a new behaviour in th= e current module. I am using Firefox as my browser. Thanks. Faisal. Hi Craig, What happens if you run the following at the command line : mysqladmin -u root -pROOT_MYSQL_PASSWORD status That is the command Webmin users to attempt a login. BTW, which MySQL version are you using there? - Jamie On Mon, 2005-11-21 at 09:59, Craig White wrote: > Not sure this is going to be much hope > > Messages presented below login screen... > with module config administrator string set to: "" > with module config administrator string set to: "" > The full MySQL error message was : connect to server at 'localhost' > failed error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using > password: NO)' > > Messages presented below login screen... > with module config administrator string set to: "root" > with module config administrator string set to: "ROOT_MYSQL_PASSWORD" > The full MySQL error message was : connect to server at 'localhost' > failed error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using > password: YES)' > and after attempt to login... > the usual "Login failed : Incorrect administration username or password" > > from command line (passing everything because I have > renamed /root/.my.cnf for the duration of this problem) > # mysql mysql -u root -p -h localhost > Enter password: > Reading table information for completion of table and column names > You can turn off this feature to get a quicker startup with -A > > Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Not sure this is going to be much hope Messages presented below login screen... with module config administrator string set to: "" with module config administrator string set to: "" The full MySQL error message was : connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)' Messages presented below login screen... with module config administrator string set to: "root" with module config administrator string set to: "ROOT_MYSQL_PASSWORD" The full MySQL error message was : connect to server at 'localhost' failed error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: YES)' and after attempt to login... the usual "Login failed : Incorrect administration username or password" from command line (passing everything because I have renamed /root/.my.cnf for the duration of this problem) # mysql mysql -u root -p -h localhost Enter password: Reading table information for completion of table and column names You can turn off this feature to get a quicker startup with -A Welcome to the MySQL monitor. Hi Craig, Try installing the updated MySQL Webmin module from : http://www.webmin.com/updates/mysql-1.240-8.wbm.gz I have made a small change to display the error message from MySQL if you cannot connect or login, which should explain what is really going wrong .. - Jamie On Mon, 2005-11-21 at 03:04, Craig White wrote: > 'Use DBI to connect if available' set to 'no' doesn't change anything > > nor does explicity setting port or socket as opposed to default > > Craig > > On Sun, 2005-11-20 at 15:12 +1100, Jamie Cameron wrote: > > Hi Craig, > > Does it help if you adjust the module configuration option that disables the use of DBI? If I remove administrator user and set password to '' and then save, I am not asked for log in and am passed directly into your module but MySQL Databases You do not have access to any MySQL databases. and I have full access to 'Global Options' and I can add/edit users but never get access to databases. I believe this is permitted because of /root/.my.cnf because if I move that file, I am asked for credentials (and of course, I can then never get logged in). Don=92t know if there already is a module for this but what about having = a Frontpage Server Extensions module in webmin. So you can add and delete these extensions to the websites you are hosting. =20 =20 Cojast --=20 No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Hi Craig, Does it help if you adjust the module configuration option that disables the use of DBI? If it is out of date, this would fix the problem. By the way, the config option for old or new passwords only effects passwords SET by webmin, not those used for logging in (which I have no control over). - Jamie -----Original Message----- From: Craig White <cra...@az...> Subj: Re: [webmin-l] mysql module Date: Sun 20 Nov 2005 2:23 pm Size: 2K To: web...@li... Hi. The management of MYSQL Database under users is Not working. When you click the MYSQL module in webmin for a user who has been created using Virtualmin, it asks for a password. Now this was working fine before, i had checked it, so a recent update has probably something to do with it. (I have no updated MYSQL) In the virtualmin, the option to Edit Databases: User can Create Database fine. It even shows up in the databases list. The user cannot MANAGE the DB. Now this is wierd also because the older Databases being accessed by the Database Username and Password (the same as the users webmin user/pass) are being accessed fine also. Ok some updates to this are, that i upgraded the shadow_utils. .... could that have something to with this ? I have check the Mysql module as Master Admin. All permissions and everything seems fine. But management is NOT working. Thankyou. Faisal. -- ~Dont tell me its hard to contact me~ Faisal Mehmood. fa...@gm... fa...@st... fa...@fa... |
