Jamie, Thanks, Thank goodness for plain text warning messages that actually say what the problem is!! I kinda figured that would be the answer but how do you "move" zones once they are created, especially the default zones, to views, and eliminate them from the non-view schema using Webmin? Or should I just edit the named.conf file to get things in order and go from there? Sorry to be a bother, and thank you for your precious time in all respects. Here's what I got out of the webmin module
/var/spool/cron
crontabs are kept in /var/spool/cron/crontabs
Oh!
Got it working =)
Fedora Core 3 has them in /var/spool/cron. Ubuntu has them in
/var/spool/cron/crontabs which is not what webmin was looking for.
I mention Fedora because Webmin works fine under Fedora.
Thanks for the help.

Hi Steve, The best solution here would be to create a new global view, and then move any zones that are not in views into it. Because BIND insists that all zones be in views if you have any of them, you really should do this .. - Jamie -----Original Message----- From: "Steve Campbell" <cam...@cn...> Subj: Re: [webmin-l] Private DNS server Date: Sat 3 Dec 2005 2:09 am Size: 2K To: <web...@li...> This is an old thread I have a question about, as I'm just getting around to implementing views. It took forever to free up a box after a few hardware problems on other boxes. Jamie, The views thing works really well so far, but I get a warning when starting named as shown below. I implemented a new name server and kept my original ones viewless, so this is sort of a test box that will become production once all of the zones are in place. The messages states: /etc/named.conf:36: when using 'view' statements, all zones must be in views The only zones, other than the defaults (root, 0, etc), in views are the ones I created and placed in a view, so I guess it's warning me about the default zones. Is there a way this is ususally handled? Do I create a global zone and move all zones to that view, and how are zones moved to views in Webmin? The server functions properly, even with the warning, but I would like to have a 'clean' startup. I don't see the answer in O'reilly or under Google anywhere. Thanks for the help and insight. Hi Damien, This could be a Webmin bug.. What exactly does root's crontab contain? You can see it by running crontab -l as root, or looking at /var/spool/cron/root (I think). - Jamie -----Original Message----- From: Damien Hull <dh...@di...> Subj: [webmin-l] Cron job Date: Sat 3 Dec 2005 5:19 am Size: 897 bytes To: web...@li... This is an old thread I have a question about, as I'm just getting around to implementing views. Like it says, you need to install the pnmscale command. This is part of the common netpbm library of image manipulation programs, and there should be a package for it for your OS. The next release of Webmin will be able to use the GD Perl library instead for scaling images, which is probably more common .. - Jamie On Thu, 2005-12-01 at 22:59, Obantec Support wrote: > Hi Jamie > > I logged out and closed the browser. Hi everyone, Webmin version 1.250 is now available for download from http://www.webmin.com/ and mirror sites. This release includes the following changes : - Fixed a denial of service attack and possible remotely exploitable security hole caused by a bug in Perl. - Multiple DNS records and Cron jobs can now be deleted at once in their respective modules. - Apache define variables are automatically detected on Redhat, SuSE and Mandrake Linux. - The Dovecot module now supports the config format used by version 1.0. - The File Manager module can search for files by their content, and preview images. - Added options to the Sendmail module for controlling the order in which the mail queue is processes and flushed. - A bunch of other bugfixes and small changes. Because of the security hole in older versions of Webmin, I would strongly recommend upgrading to 1.250. Because this is a Perl internal problem it may not effect all operating systems and Perl releases, but you can't be too careful! Also available is Usermin 1.180, which includes the following changes : - Fixed the same security hole as in Webmin. - The File Manager module can search for files by their content, and preview images. - The Mail Forwarding module allows a From: address for autoreplies to be entered in 'simple' mode. As always, please send me any bug reports or feature suggestions that you might have. - Jamie |

Adding New Languages to Webmin 2. Using wbmtranslator 3. Is there a way to use localization when developing a new theme? 4. Special Hint ###################################################################### 1. Adding New Languages to Webmin New translations of the existing core Webmin modules are always welcome. If you want to translate Webmin into a new language or update one of the existing translations, follow these steps : Get the latest development version of Webmin so that you can see the latest translations that have been done by other people. In the file lang_list.txt in the Webmin root directory, add a new line for your language like : lang=sw,titles=1,charset=iso-6666-6 Swahili The "lang" part defines the short code for the language, and should follow the ISO standard where possible. The "titles" part controls whether Webmin should use letter images for displaying page titles in the language, and should be set to 1 if your language uses european characters. The optional "charset" part sets the character set that is sent to the web browser when using the language, so that is can automatically select the right font to use. Switch to your new language in the Webmin Configuration module under the Language icon. In the directory lang under the Webmin root and in each of the lang subdirectories under the module directories, create a new file called sw (or whatever the short code for your language is) that is a translation of the en file in the same directory. In each of the module.info files under the module directories, add a new desc_sw= line that is a translation of the desc= line. In each of the module directories, create a new file called config.info.sw which is a translation of config.info (if it exists). In the help subdirectory under each of the module directories (where they exist), translate all of the something.html files into something.sw.html. A table of currently translated languages is available so that you can see how much has been done for each language and module so far. There is also a list of other translators that you might want to contact before doing your own translation work. You don't have to finish translating the entire of Webmin for your translation to be useful. Many people just do a few modules at a time, or skip the help pages initially. When your translation has made some progress, send a .tar.gz file of all the translated files to the Webmin Translation Team at tra...@we... so that they can include it in the main Webmin distribution. The best way to tar up everything is with the command : tar czf /tmp/translation.tar.gz \ */lang/sw lang/sw */module.info \ */config.info.sw */help/*.sw.html ###################################################################### 2. Using wbmtranslator This is a module by Emmanuel Saracco which can be downloaded here: http://labs.libre-entreprise.org/projects/wbmtranslator/ It consists of an easy to use webinterface in order to update current translations or setup new languages. Last not least it enables you to officially send in translations to the Webmin Translation Team at tra...@we... ###################################################################### 3. Is there a way to use localization when developing a new theme? Yes (by Jamie Cameron) There is a way to do this - create a lang/ subdirectory under your theme with the usual en, de and other files. Then in your theme CGIs or .pl, use code like : %mytext = &load_language("my-theme-directory"); print "<b>$mytext{'something'}</b> <p>\n"; ###################################################################### 4. In a previous post on this list, the talk on sysadmins at Stanford by Luke Kowalski of Oracle was mentioned, "Administrators Anonymous - UCD, TCO, LCM, and other interventions" It is available online at http://scpd.stanford.edu/scpd/students/DAM_UI/pages/VideoList.asp?CourseInfo=CS547&URL=http://stanford-online.stanford.edu/xml/autumn2005/cs547video.xml Go down to October 7 and click on the icon to download. At Open Country, we are trying to find out what webmin users would like to have worked on. The final results will be posted for everyone on this list. http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=194331454451 |

It's covered in the sendmail doc. That refers to the sendmail access map, which can be used to allow certain subnets to relay mail through the server. You can also allow certain domains to relay by this method, but it's really not that secure, as there is no authentication. (Any spammer that found out which domains are allowed to relay through your server could then abuse your system.) The OP (da...@so...) is asking about SMTP AUTH. Checking on my own server (set up manually with SMTP AUTH and TLS), I don't see any native Webmin option to manage these settings. However, by going to the "Sendmail M4 Configuration" page, you can add any sendmail m4 constructs you like. These lines in my configuration allow SMTP AUTH, but only over a TLS connection (watch for line wrap): dnl ## STARTTLS/AUTH options define(`confAUTH_OPTIONS', `A p y')dnl define(`confAUTH_MECHANISMS', `LOGIN PLAIN')dnl TRUST_AUTH_MECH(`login plain')dnl define(`confCACERT_PATH', `/etc/mail/certs')dnl define(`confCACERT', `/etc/mail/certs/ca-deepnet.crt')dnl define(`confSERVER_CERT', `/etc/mail/certs/smtp.deepnet.crt')dnl define(`confSERVER_KEY', `/etc/mail/certs/rock.key.insecure')dnl unencrypted define(`confRAND_FILE', `/dev/urandom')dnl (Not sure if that last one is strictly required, but other SSL/TLS services have been known to stall waiting for /dev/random.) For the full details on what each line means, you'll have to consult the sendmail docs, but in brief: define(`confAUTH_OPTIONS', `A p y')dnl -> Control how SMTP AUTH is accepted. IIRC the p is what limits it to only allowing AUTH over a TLS connection. define(`confAUTH_MECHANISMS', `LOGIN PLAIN')dnl -> Only allow the LOGIN and PLAIN auth methods. You can use APOP-like hashes, digital certificates, and several other varieties of authentication. TRUST_AUTH_MECH(`login plain')dnl -> These SMTP AUTH methods are the ones that allow someone to relay mail through this server. This need not match the allowed AUTH methods! (Although I can't quite see why it would be useful to let them be different...) The next four options just point to the digital certificate used for TLS, and the last one tells sendmail to use /dev/urandom. I'm not certain if this will work as-is on Slackware; my system is White Box 3.0. I *do* recall some headaches with SASL at one point, but I'm don't think that's even being used at this point. -kgd -- Get your mouse off of there! You don't know where that email has been! |

You can allow the domain or subnet to relay if they are on a dial-up. It's covered in the sendmail doc. Ed . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
