First of i am getting really close to making my life alot easier through the uses of your great program. Hoping all the time i put in now will save me time in the near future. When virtualmin adds a zone it always adds it to the /usr/local/etc/named.conf directory this does not work for me i need it to be added to the /usr/local/etc/namedb/webmin/zones.file. I have made the adjustment in the dns server module config by checking the Add new zones to file and adding this to the dialog box /usr/local/etc/namedb/webmin/zones.file. When creating the apache site webmin seems to do a great job adding the apache web directives to to new file /usr/local/etc/apache/vhost.conf but adds the below. I would like to see *:80 rather than an ip address also it seems to leave behind a bunch of these enteries when i delete virtual servers. <VirtualHost 68.146.204.152:80> </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost 68.146.204.152:80> </VirtualHost> I have added these directives to the apache directive box is that the best/only way seems alittle messy? can i use a template file or something. Lastly when the zone file gets created it goes where is should and contains some of what it should. However when i add additionally needed records to the dialog box for virtual servers it adds nothing to my zone file. I tried adding zone info into the dns module but it only allows room for two entries and the format of the template file is unclear to me. please help I have spent many hours reading the doc and experimenting. Trail and error only get one so far and takes a very long time, i need so enlightenment please. -- Computer King/CaNMail http://www.computerking.ca http://www.canmail.org Sales, Service, and Hosting Email, Data, and Web Packages Ask about web design specials Affiliates http://www.computerking.ca/pages/links/affiliates/affiliates.htm Maybe Computer Science should be in the College of Theology. -- R. Just to confirm (I haven't done upgrades from the CLI in well over a year), the process is a simple: - download the latest tarball - untar to somewhere (/usr/local) - run the setup.sh from that directory - point it at the config directory used by the old version - restart miniserv.pl ---- Freddie Cash, LPIC-1 CCNT CCLP Helpdesk / Network Support Tech. Is it possible, using the cluster webmin server module, to set the default webmin theme on the remote systems? I have 38 servers configured via webmin servers index/cluster webmin servers, and have uploaded a theme to all the remote systems.=20 However, I cannot figure out how to set that theme as the default for the remote systems. Is this even possible with any of the cluster modules? Thanks. ---- Freddie Cash, LPCI-1 CCNT CCLP Helpdesk / Network Support Tech. School District 73 (250) 377-HELP [377-4357] fca...@sd... |

While trying to upgrade a RedHat 7.1 server running Webmin 1.180, I get the following error: require proc/proc-lib.pl failed: Died at (eval 18) line 4. Thanks Jamie, IS there a way (i.e. a parameter to set) in the module itself so it will show up when the module index file is shown in a browser? (similar to the way Apache or ProFTPd does? Perhaps, in the module config, have the ability to specify a specific directory for the default export location, then all us lazy people would have to do is type in the filename . -Grant ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jamie Cameron" <jca...@we...> To: <web...@li...> Sent: Monday, March 27, 2006 1:14 AM Subject: Re: [webmin-l] Module Exporting > On 26/Mar/2006 12:11 Grant Peel wrote .. >> Hi Janie, >> >> Any chance you can be bribed to add an 'Export' theme provision in the >> theme's module, similar to what you added in the Webmin/Usermin module >> sections? > > That's a good idea .. If I log on as root I can see the entries sorted by assignment (shared network and then the IP's in that network and then next shared network...) but, if I create a new account, it sorts all of the IP's first and then the shared networks no matter what I have for "Display hosts and groups by" |

This coming 1st of April it will complete 1 year that I have been using webmin, usermin and virtualmin in my small business. I would like to express my thanks to all of you that made this great software possible. It helped me start my small business and it also helped me make money and pay my bills. Also, I would like to express my thanks to everyone in the list that willingly helped me through working better with this great software. After trying other software like Cpanel and windows based hosting panels I found webmin to be the leading of all. Besides that, webmin doesn't install garbage on the machine. Webmin is a concept in simplicity, functionality and cost-wise software. Thank you all. My thanks go especially to Jamie Cameron. Ravi Gehlot |

Once again, in short, no; reread my previous message carefully. The site MUST be identified based on the (public!) IP and port - no other information is available before the SSL layer is engaged, and after it's engaged you can't renegotiate the SSL parameters. Which leaves you stuck trying to having to identify which site to serve based on information you don't have yet. About the best you could do - and it's pretty ugly, I'd NEVER rely on it to function correctly in production - is a truly barbaric hack to redirect from https://site.com to https://realsite.com:newport on the fly. I'm not certain if it would even be possible; it would depend on which headers are actually sent by the browser. You'd still end up with certificate mismatch headaches, because the initial connection wouldn't be handled by a vhost with the correct certificate for the site you actually want to visit. Googling for "SSL handshake HTTPS certificate" should turn up some relevant results. -kgd |

Indeed, I could secure many websites sharing > the same ip without having obligating my customers to know port numbers. If you're serious about providing HTTPS service for your customers, you'll do it right and set each secure site up with its own IP. About the best you can do otherwise is have a "shared" HTTPS site that either acts as an HTTPS proxy wrapper for the "real" site (https://secure.yourdomain.com/customersite), or you must include the bare alternate port numbers in the address so Apache can figure out which site to serve (https://customer.com:customport). http:// URLs will not be secure, because the browser won't know to initiate the SSL key exchange. Here's the detailed reason why: Regular HTTP access: The browser opens a connection to the specified port (or the standard HTTP port if none is specified) on the appropriate server. It sends the HTTP request, along with additional headers that tell the webserver which domain it's looking for: GET / HTTP/1.1 Host: domain1.com The above two pieces are the bare minimum for hosting multiple regular websites on a single IP; I can't think of any browsers that DON'T support this capability. Based on that "Host:" header, the webserver can pick which of the virtual hosts to send out the default index page for. If it's omitted, most webservers include configuration for a default virtualhost, which is what will be served. HTTPS access: The browser opens a connection to the specified port (or the standard HTTPS port if none is specified) on the appropriate server. It initiates the key and certificate exchange necessary to A) secure the connection (key exchange) and B) provide some degree of authenticity for the site address (certificate). Note that at this point, the webserver has NOT received an HTTP-specific request; this process is part of ALL certficate-associated SSL connections! The ONLY information the webserver has with respect to which site to provide content from is the IP and port that the browser connected to. Once the SSL handshake is finished, the browser then sends the same basic request headers as with regular HTTP access. But at this point, because of the SSL handshake, there is no way to suddenly switch to a different virtual host; doing so would require a new SSL handshake - which would have to be chosen based on a different IP and/or port than the original connection. -kgd ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by xPML, a groundbreaking scripting language that extends applications into web and mobile media. You should add a line to its module.info file like : version=1.0 This will then show up in the Webmin Configuration -> Webmin Modules page, when the list of installed modules is displayed. - Jamie |

One fix would be to do the following : 1) Extract the backup tar file to a temporary directory 2) Edit the file tmp/backup-manifest/status under that directory 3) Replace the // at the start of each filename with / 4) Re-tar up the backup file, and then attempt to restore from it in Webmin. - Jamie |

Apologies for the delayed reply... I using Virtual 2.610 with Webmin 1.260. And there's nowehere I can find to alter the logrotate settings. Even tried setting the skin back to the default, in case there was a problem there, but no joy. I did however finally solve the initial problem that led me to go looking for this configuration, which I'll record here in case it's useful for someone else.... I was getting regular logrotate errors, "unable to run postrotate scripts" for all virtual domains plus a few other logs. It seems that the logrotate program creates a temporary script in the system temp directory (/tmp) for any 'postrotate' directives in the logrotate configuration. An my /tmp is noexec, so the temp script(s) would fail. So I modified the /etc/cron.daily/logrotate script (on CentOS), adding a specific temp directory for the logrotate program to use: Was: /usr/sbin/logrotate /etc/logrotate.conf Modified to: env TMPDIR=/var/logrotatetmp /usr/sbin/logrotate /etc/logrotate.conf Then of course create the /var/logrotatetmp directory. Take care, Doug |

Grant, Check out Dovecot. It is primarily an IMAP server, but it does POP3, and I believe it meets all of your requirements. It is the default POP/IMAP server in all current Red Hat-based Linux distributions, and it is the default server supported with Virtualmin Professional, so it is the best choice to work with Webmin and Usermin. It also should work perfectly with all webmail programs (including OpenWebmail), since by definition they are usually IMAP-based. For more information, see www.Dovecot.org and wiki.Dovecot.org.
