Excellent -- that was it. I had awstats.conf there, but no .model.conf. Next question.. can I make the awstats module handle wildcard log file spec= ifications? I copy log files from one server to another, and if for some reason, the aw= stat run isn't done for a given day, I'll end up with two log files.. they = have names like access_logYYYYMMDD .. -joho ------------------------- Ursprungligt Meddelande: Fr=E5n: Jamie Cameron <jca...@we...> Datum: torsdag, 23 mars 2006 21:53 =C4mne: Re: [webmin-l] Awstats module failing on SuSE 10 Check that the file /etc/awstats/awstats.model.conf exists on your system. Copying custom modules is pretty easy in the latest release of Webmin - in the Webmin Configuration module on the Modules page is a form for exporting a module to a .wbm file, which you can then install on the destination server. There is no way to copy cloned moduled - however, since these are just symlinks, they can be easily re-created on the target server on that same Webmin Modules page. - Jamie |

Good morning, What is the simplest / most convenient method for copying modules from server to server? Specifically custom modules or cloned modules? Last time I tried this (around the time of Webmin 1.000), I had to manually zip the module directory under /etc/webmin and under /path/to/webmin/install, transfer it over to the other system, clone a module, then extract the archive into the two module directories. Is there a way in newer webmin versions to create a .wbz or a .tar of a cloned module that can easily be installed on another server? (Note: I have not looked at any of the new modules available in the latest release, so if this is now available, a "look at the modules on your system" is good enough.) ---- Freddie Cash, LPCI-1 CCNT CCLP Helpdesk / Network Support Tech. Thanks .. I will add a field on the Addresses and Topology page in the
BIND module in the next version of Webmin to let you set this, without having
to resort to manual config file editing.

I should have clarified - on 2 of the 3 servers (both running Webmin 1.260),
I am the Webmin admin, and on those I have access to the Edit Config File
icon. On the 3rd server (running Webmin 1.230), I am just a Webmin user
without access to the Edit Config File icon, but with access to pretty much
everything else in BIND. I am asking them to upgrade it.
In any event, my point is that there does not seem to be a page/icon in the
BIND module to allow separate management of recursive queries, without
having to resort to manual editing of the named.conf file.
> Actually, Webmin should include a proper page for easily setting up allowed
> servers for recursive queries.
I agree. Can we put that on the wish list?
> What exactly were you putting into the
> options section when you did the manual editing?
I entered:
allow-recursion {
207.177.51.16/28;
209.152.96.0/25;
139.142.123.66;
69.66.28.176;
!any;
};
...in the "Options" section of the named.conf file, just before
"forwarders".
It would be wonderful if Webmin supported BIND pages to fully harden BIND as
outlined on:
http://www.cymru.com/Documents/secure-bind-template.html
Thanks for such an awesome piece of software.

I just tested this, and on my system I was able to select a view from the menu and save it with no problems (in the default template). Are your existing views actually appearing in the list? - Jamie |

That option is the one you want - if you want to create the zone in a view, you really need to set this to the name of the view, and then Virtualmin will add it to the appropriate file. Are you finding that this option cannot be set properly, or that it is totally ignored when creating a zone? - Jamie |

Really i found a bug lucky me do i win something? hmmmm a workaround for now is to copy and paste into the correct file. That sounds like to much messing around i want this whole thing to be automated that is the point of webmin right? My main problem with adding to the named.conf is that i use views and webmin does not seem to be able to add to the correct view.......................................................................................yep i tested it and might just be me but the 'Create new domains in view' setting does not seem to stick. It seemed to work once but now it is not i even tried restarting webmin. between this and the bug mentioned ealrier in this mail i am unsure how to make this work. Also where are the automatic zone records coming from i have turned them off for now and am just using the below for the template file will webmin still be able to update serial #'s and the like if it has not created the file? What about the slave server how do i add the correct zone entry to the named.conf on the remote slave server? ;========================================================== ; ${DOM} Webmin generated zone file ;========================================================== $TTL 3600 ${DOM}. Ok, I can see why those extra virtual servers aren't being deleted - putting them into the template like that is kind of a hack! Which Apache version do you run there? Whether or not it uses * or the IP in the <Virtualhost> depends on the Apache version .. - Jamie |

Shouldn't there be a "Recursion" icon? Perhaps that is an older version of Webmin that didn't include the Edit Config File icon? If so, you might want to upgrade. Actually, Webmin should include a proper page for easily setting up allowed servers for recursive queries. What exactly were you putting into the options section when you did the manual editing? - Jamie |

I am using Webmin 1.260 (with the StressFree Tiger Theme Version 1.75, which I love) to manage amongst other things BIND version 9.2.2 on Mac OS X 10.4.5. I have used the "Edit Config File" feature of the BIND module to set the Options of the named.conf file to allow recursion on only those address spaces that need access the name server, denying all other addresses. There is a third-party name server that I am doing tertiary service on also controlled with Webmin. I do not have access to "Edit Config File" on my Webmin user on that box. My question is can I configure recursion for my domains on any other Webmin panel? Shouldn't there be a "Recursion" icon? If you take a look at dnsreport.com and run my embode.net domain, you will see what I mean: "Server 139.142.123.66 reports that it will do recursive lookups." |

No or yes you are talking about the Edit Server Template page right? On the Edit Server Template page under the section Directive and settings for new websites sections. I have checked off the apache directives below button, and filled in the box with the following content. # ============ This the ${DOM} virtual host file ========== ServerName ${DOM} ServerAlias www.${DOM} DocumentRoot ${HOME}/public_html ErrorLog ${HOME}/logs/error_log CustomLog ${HOME}/logs/access_log common ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ ${HOME}/cgi-bin/ <Directory ${HOME}/public_html> Options Indexes IncludesNOEXEC FollowSymLinks allow from all </Directory> # SuexecUserGroup rmvg rmvg # <Directory /home/site.com/public_html/cgi > # Options +ExecCGI +Indexes # AddHandler cgi-script .cgi # </Directory> </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName mail.${DOM} ErrorLog ${HOME}/logs/error_log CustomLog ${HOME}/logs/access_log common Redirect permanent / http://www.canmail.org/ </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName logs.${DOM} DocumentRoot ${HOME}/public_html/stats ErrorLog ${HOME}/logs/error_log CustomLog ${HOME}/logs/access_log common THEREFORE YES I HAVE ADDED SEVERAL <VirtualHost *:80> ENTERIES BUT LET WEBMIN TAKE CARE OF THE TOP AND BOTTOM ONE. So is Webmin/Virtualmin doing the right thing after you make this change?

Do you mean you added the actual <Virtualhost> lines to the template? That
is not needed, as they are added automatically .. in fact, adding them could
cause problems deleting.

You need to add extra records in the BIND zone file format to the 'BIND DNS
records for new domains' field in the template, like
foo IN A ${IP}
These will then be added to the zone file for a new domain, but only
when it is created.
