Thanks jamie,

That sorted it, tho it would not let me re-build the sendmail from webmin, i
had to do sendmailconfig in term.

I seem to have got webmin/virtualmin going now under ubuntu,

Tho my server was at least showing a templet page on http://localhost,  it
now seems to have stopped doing so.
when I goto virtualmin and scroll down alittle i see a red X beside Apache,
when I try to start it again, I get this :

Failed to start apache :

Configuration syntax error detected. Not reloading.

ERROR: User directive in  requires SUEXEC wrapper.
----------------

And it was working :( - was it because i added a user?.. I removed that
virtual user just incase but still same error starting apache.

Sendmail isn't setup properly on your system ..
To fix this, you need to do the following :

1) Go to the Sendmail module in Webmin
2) Click on Sendmail M4 Configuration
3) Select 'Feature' from the menu next to the
   'Add a new entry' button, and then click it.
4) From the Feature menu, select virtusertable
5) In the 'Parameters' field, enter :
   hash -o /etc/mail/virtusertable
6) Click Create
7) Click the Rebuild Sendmail Configuration button, and
   confirm the changes
8) Go back to Virtualmin and try again

"No address mapping (virtusers) file was found in your Sendmail
configuration. Your may need to add the appropriate feature your Sendmail M4
and re-build the configuration."

anyone know what I have done wrong?

[webmin-l] missing version numbers in blue theme

I like the cut down blue theme but it is not reporting version numbers like
sendmail, mysql, bind, proftpd etc

(webmin 1.280) on FC3

Have you tried using the Read User Mail module's feature for accessing
any file or directory as a mail folder? Down the bottom of the main page
is a 'Read Mail in File' field into which you can enter the path to any
mbox-format file or Maildir directory to view its contents.

It would be convinient if I could access those 
/var/spool/mail$date/usermailbox from webmin... but I can not...

(I know... a possible solution would be to have "folders" --actually are 
files, inside each users $HOME/mail in the form of $HOME/mail/mbox$date , 
but I would rather keep all mail togheter!!!)

any way to do it via webmin?

Sorry, but there isn't yet any way to specific the user's last name 
from a batch file like this. Perhaps in future I will add a field to
the batch format for adding arbitrary LDAP attributes for each user..

I have to "hard code" the value of this field, or use one of the limited 
number of variables it allows me to use for replacement.  Unfortunately, 
sn should get the value of the user's last name, which is not one of the 
replacements listed in the documentation.  I was hoping to specify this 
within the batch file.  Right now the closest I can come is to use 
${USER} to insert login name or ${REAL} to insert the user's entire real 
name. 

This will get me going for now, but if you know of a way to do what I 
need, please let me know.  Otherwise, I can probably hack it so that 
${LAST} is an option, but I'd have to do that again each upgrade.

Hi Mark

Thanks for your infomation.

Finally I found out why I cannot use the filemanager,
becuase my computer using Java VM 1.1.4 from
microsoft, although I install the Java 1.4 and 1.5.0
but the browser still using the 1.1.4 version (I dont
know why ????) so I change the setting from 1.1.4 to
1.5.0 in the internet option and it works now !!

We use the LDAP User and Groups module to maintain our LDAP users.  We 
want to use the batch user creation script, but our LDAP schema (the 
inetOrgPerson objectClass, specifically) requires the field sn for new 
user objects, and the batch creation process does not currently 
accomodate this.  Is there an easy way to add this functionality?  I 
will edit the module source if necessary, but hoping something more 
general exists for this.

That's wierd .. I don't see any syntax error in that file on my system.
Have you tried upgrading to version 1.280 ?

Hi. Been using simple-theme, switched back to "Old webmin theme", hit sub=

Thx again all for these pointers soulatins.

I have a user setup, i can FTP in and its protected from letting user goto a
higher level DIR,

lets say I want to point my domain to that user's webfolder (virtual
hosting?) where in panel would I setup the records for domain/cname. Also is
there a backdoor way to a users home dir via http: ? I normaly see it on
hosts i have had in the past like this : http://192.168.1.141/~theuserhere
or  http://192.168.1.141/theuserhere - this what im trying to do, I use
EveryDNS etc and have all the nameserver part ready, just not sure how
webmin knows what to do or where to point the domain when it hits port 80
etc, a but confuzed.


Small note : the apache would not work until i edited config by replacing
apache with apache2 everywhere, seems like my ubuntu had apache2 installed,
is this ok what i done? it seem ok because after I done that, webmin lets me
into the apache area of the admin panel after i changed to /apache2

Just in case you are interested -  you can make members of a group =
unrestricted in their ftp access..  just by the following

DefaultRoot ~ !sysadmin

This makes members of the Unix/Linux group sysadmin  unrestricted... for =
admin purposes you may want to do this.  You may replace sysadmin with a =
valid group from your system... or create one....
