I noticed that every since the last two upgrades of usermin this month, that the "Mark As" button doesn't work. i.e. When I select mail, and press the button, I get the error: "No mail selected to mark". Anyone else have this issue with Usermin? Thanks, -Mike |

We upgraded mozilla from 1.4 to 1.7 and now when using the file manager you can launch the applets within the filemanager fine but can't type within the applet. Has anyone seen this? |

Hi everyone, Webmin version 1.290 is now available for download from http://www.webmin.com/ and mirror sites. This release includes the following changes : - Fixed a security hole that would allow a remote attacker to view any file on the system. - Added the LDAP Client module, for setting up a Linux system to get users and groups from an LDAP server. - Added support for sending email when a group is over quota to the Disk Quotas module. - Several other small fixes for bugs found since 1.280. Also available is Usermin 1.220, which includes the same security fix. Because the security hole in older versions could allow an attacker to read sensitive information from your system (including passwords), I recommend upgrading to Webmin 1.290 as soon as possible. As always, please send me any bug reports or feature suggestions that you might have. - Jamie |

When using the SSH-2 capable applet, you need to set the 'Hostname to connect to' on the Module Config page to the hostname of your Webmin server (as shown in the URL). Webmin is supposed to work this out automatically, but due to a bug it doesn't.. The next release will fix this properly. - Jamie |

Webmin actually does all the work itself - I wrote my own code for getting the list of users, checking their quotas and sending out email. So the warnquota program is not needed by Webmin at all. - Jamie |

No, it says it is connecting to the Webmin server in this case, but then my connection is rejected because it does not allow SSH version 1. So, the problem seems to be only with the "New version" of the applet. It looks like there might be a newer version of this applet on the JavaSSH.org web site. They are showing version 2.6, but the version that is included in Webmin is 2.5. Maybe they fixed this problem in the newer release? Thanks, Alan |

The format of /etc/webmin/quota/config is different. How do you use the info in the Webmin module to check the user's quotas each night and send a warning if required? Hi Jamie, Where is the "Email message for users over quota" stored. On SuSE 10.0 the warnquota conf file is /etc/warnquota.conf. I modified the message in the Webmin module config and saved it but I have no idea where it is being saved. Shouldn't it save it in the the warnquota.conf file? Thanks Murray |

This is very strange then, especially if it only started happening in Webmin 1.280, as they only change in that release was the addition of proxying support, which you aren't using. Does this still occur if you change the 'SSH applet to use' option on the Module Config page to 'Old version' ? - Jamie |

From a security standpoint, I think it is okay that Java is connecting to localhost, since it is technically using an open network port on my machine and prompts for authentication. It is not connecting directly to the local machine filesystem from the Java applet. According to netstat, here is the connection from that applet to my local ssh port: TCP Desktop:43556 localhost:ssh ESTABLISHED 2624 [iexplore.exe] > Are you by any change accessing Webmin through some kind of proxy or Apache > forwarding virtual host? This may be confusing the module .. No, in this case I have a direct HTTPS connection to the Webmin server. The hostname -f command displays my system's fully-qualified domain name, which is the same name I am using in the URL to connect to the Webmin server. Thanks, Alan |

What does the 'hostname -f' command output when run at the shell prompt on your system? If it is returning localhost, this may be confusing Webmin.. - Jamie |

Entering 'localhost' would be pointless when in proxy mode, as > it is the default destination for non-proxied connections :) > > - Jamie What you are saying makes sense, but let me reiterate what I am experiencing, which still appears to be multiple bugs with this module. First, with the module config set to "Automatic", Port set to "Default", and proxy set to "No", the SSH/Telnet Login module connects me to my local desktop, not the Webmin server. This seems kind of pointless, and definitely not expected behavior. Second, if I enter another server hostname in the module config and leave proxy set to "No", it does connect me properly to that server. But this does not seem to be tunneling in this case, it seems to be a direct connection from my desktop (where the Java applet is running). Finally, if I enter another server hostname in the module config and set proxy to "Yes", it says "Connected to <unknown host> 10002", but it does not actually connect to anything. Alan |

Thanks for speedy reply, I searched for this proftpd.conf and found it like this /ect/proftpd.conf.proftpd-new as well as : /ect/proftpd.conf Here's the content of '/ect/proftpd.conf' below : ....ahh now wait a second here, that file is empty! im going to try and replace the empty content with the other one.................................. .. . . . . Jamie ur a star, replaced it with that other one which said in the header of the file that it was a default proftpd conf file. then I RESTARTED! the ftp and away she went nps. Its just learning the behaviour of things when they go swany-up! - hope I can help others by the time im finished with all this crack. Thanks a million for your time.
