Thanks all, I just added DefaultRoot ~ in the proftpd.conf - now I cant browse into important areas :) I take it I must now do the same to now protect a user from using a dubious perl/php script under their webmin account. To stop users uploading a file manager like script that they can use to browse into important areas that should not be seen by a user? or what I have already set via the proftp.conf is also going to protect me from this kind of dubious script also? I was just looking at something similar. From the Intel driver readme:
Multiple Interfaces on Same Ethernet Broadcast Network
------------------------------------------------------
Due to the default ARP behavior on Linux, it is not possible to have one
system on two IP networks in the same Ethernet broadcast domain
(non-partitioned switch) behave as expected. All Ethernet interfaces
will respond to IP traffic for any IP address assigned to the system.
This results in unbalanced receive traffic.
If you have multiple interfaces in a server, either turn on ARP
filtering by entering:
echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/all/arp_filter
(this only works if your kernel's version is higher than 2.4.5),
NOTE: This setting is not saved across reboots. The configuration change
can be made permanent by adding the line:
net.ipv4.conf.all.arp_filter =3D 1
to the file /etc/sysctl.conf
or,
install the interfaces in separate broadcast domains (either in
different switches or in a switch partitioned to VLANs).

Subject: [webmin-l] Off-Topic arpwatch & Flip Flopping NICs

If you are indeed using proftpd, see the page link below: http://www.proftpd.org/docs/directives/linked/config_ref_DefaultRoot.html Note the groups defined also. You can use the DefaultRoot parameter many ways. It can be a Global or VirtualHost parameter. It can reference a *nix group also by using something like the following: DefaultRoot <tab> /path/to/somewhere <tab> groupname Replace the path part to a specific full qualified path on the server and the groupname to a qualified *nix group and this will chroot the user to the path if he belongs to the group. Another use, if your system creates a group for each user is to use this as a username also, although the link give a better solution for the user stuff. Of course, the path should be writeable by the group/user if they are going to upload. Steve > > Jeff, > > >> HI >> >> You have not chrooted the users into their home directories. HI You have not chrooted the users into their home directories. Depending on which FTP daemon you are using this procedure will be different. Hi, When I set up a user in System, Users/Groups then FTP into this account it lets me in fine! but when I click back on CuteFTP it seems to let me go back out of the users folder right into the heart of my linux drive. Is there something Im ment to set to protect a user from leaving there home dir and also,.. what why or how do I make sure a user does not upload a script (perl/php) that lets them browse the contents of the areas that are not ment to be accessed by a hosting user? HI Check the module configuration that you have the correct paths. Also chec= k the permissions of the zone files. I have had this a few times too when changing machines and restoring my b= ind environment. Most of the time the above 2 steps will correct this. The best way to avoid this is to not delete the modules, but instead to simply hide them using the Webmin Users module.. Unless of course you are really low on disk space and want to free up some space by deleting modules - but I don't recommend this, as it may cause dependency problems. - Jamie |

Yes, I am working on this slowly .. each time I notice a list that is not sorted, I update it to be. In the next Webmin release, the lists of cluster hosts will be sorted according to your configuration in the Webmin Servers Index module. > Would it be possible to separate the list of servers in the Cluster > Webmin Servers module to list servers according to the group they are > in? I will look into adding this in future.. - Jamie |

I personally move the unused modules into a different category instead of uninstalling and then remove permissions to them for everyone but the main admin. A couple of quick suggestions/feature requests to consider: Would it be possible to alphabetize all drop-drown lists? For example, I'm starting to use the Cluster modules a lot more, and all the drop-down lists have the remote servers listed in the order they were added to the Webmin Servers Index module. Makes it difficult to find the server I want to work on. There are several other drop-down lists strewn about the various standard modules, and they could all benefit from being alphabetised. Would it be possible to separate the list of servers in the Cluster Webmin Servers module to list servers according to the group they are in? For example, right now, you can sort the icons according to hostname, order added, and description. Which is fine, but it's one giant list. Would be nice to have an alphabetised list of servers separated into groups. Especially since one can assign a remote server to a group. Actually, that behavious does really make sense :) If you change the theme in the Webmin Configuration module, this effects all users, except those that have chosen a personal theme in the Change Language and Theme module. So you could also have made the change by selecting 'Global Default' in the latter module. - Jamie |

In am running BIND version 9.2.2 under Webmin 1.280 on Mac OS X 10.4.6. I just moved the entire server from an old box to a new one, and I used the Webmin backup and restore - which worked fine on Apache, MySQL, etc.. It also worked on BIND in that the zone files ARE all there in the correct directories, but none of them are showing up in Webmin, under the normal "Existing DNS Zones". Any thoughts? |

If I go into Webmin -> Webmin Configuration -> Webmin Themes and select a new theme and click on "Change", nothing changes, even if I logout and back in to Webmin. If I go into Webmin -> Change Language and Themes select a (new) theme and click on "Make Changes" The changes are made and I'm back to the Webmin splash page I know it's a nit but something needs to be fixed/changed in the Webmin Themes page. |
