Why not just use the post-backup command feature to rename the backup file (using SSH or something) when it is complete? Having Webmin do it is tricky, as renames like this would fail if you are writing to a remote tape device. - Jamie |

The better tools rely entirely on what they find in the various config files. The not-quite-as-good tools keep their own internal database of some settings, but will generally keep or at least not overwrite changes made outside that tool. The not-compatible-with-anyone-else tools rely entirely on their own internal database, and just write out complete new config files for any changes, ignoring any changes made outside of that tool. Webmin is (fortunately) in the first category. <g> -kgd |

Hi all, I'm having a bit of a problem with subversion configuration, and would appreciate any advice. Webmin Version 1.300 on CentOS Linux version 2.6.9-34.0.2.EL (buildcentos@v20z-i386) (gcc version 3.4.5 20051201 (Red Hat 3.4.5-2)) #1 Fri Jul 7 19:24:57 CDT 2006 Virtualmin SubVersion Repositories (v. 2.7) In two virtual hosts I have: Allow SubVersion repositories <checked> Now I'm expecting under Webmin/Servers to see a Subversion Repositories item. Is this correct, and why might I not see this? --r |

hi jamie, in the scheduled backup, everytime a backup is repeated the existing backup file is overwritten. this way, there is a (small) time when no backup of the system exists. so, is it possible to write the backup remotely(!) to a tempfile and to overwrite the existing backup file after the verification of the new backup file? Yeah, that is to be expected unfortunately. The .deb doesn't know that you are really upgrading, and so will try to check port 10000 to see if it is free, and fail.. > Also, I'm curious as to what cooperation if any happens between the > various admin front ends available for OSS (gadmintools, gconf, swat, > mysql-admin, destar etc..). There is actually a group called the Open Management Consortium that has recently started to bring together the developers of various open source admin tools, including Webmin. At the moment though, there is very little code sharing between things like Webmin, SWAT and the like ... most likely because they are written in different languages, and none really provides a library that makes re-use by other tools. However, Webmin 1.300 includes an XML-RPC API that can be called by other programs over the network ... so hopefully this will increase code re-use in future :) - Jamie |

I know it's not entirely fair, but I tried installing the new webmin deb onto a machine already running an earlier version. The earlier version was not installed by deb. The installation failed with a "port already in use" error. Probably isn't worth doing anything about, but I thought I'd mention it anyway. Once I removed the old webmin and reinstalled the deb things seem to work fine. Thanks for the deb... I first discovered webmin browsing the debs available in Debian (Woody?). Also, I'm curious as to what cooperation if any happens between the various admin front ends available for OSS (gadmintools, gconf, swat, mysql-admin, destar etc..). Is there any? I've always thought OSS would be a more consistently friendly place if there was a library of well debugged config plugins/modules that UI guys could plunder and abuse. It might even be useful for the config fiddling that some rpm/debs do. Does this already exist, or are there good technical or political reasons why this doesn't exist? -Mark |

I probably won't add support for that mode any time soon, as it would mean starting and stopping the stunnel daemon, arranging for it to be started at boot time, and other complexities that xinetd / inetd do for you automatically.. - Jamie |

Hello! Yes, it is very possible; we're currently running it on four servers without inetd/xinetd. So, it'd be nice if Webmin could support that configuration. It is not likely that we'll be installing xinetd or any other such "front-end" daemon. -joho |

Is that even possible? I didn't know that stunnel could run as a stand-alone server .. I thought it always needed a program like inetd, xinetd or tcpserver to actually accept the network connections. That said, xinetd is a pretty light-weight program, assuming that you don't configure it to run any other services. - Jamie |

Hello Jamie! Any chance of getting support for stunnel configuration without the use of inetd/xinetd? Typically, we use stunnel without such tools and store the configuration in /etc/stunnel/stunnel.conf The .pem files, certs.pem, etc. and the log files are also (in our case) stored in that directory. -joho |

Hello, "Obantec Support" <su...@ob...> wrote: >no chance of a quick update on that module as it is one i use = frequently. or >can you advise how to downgrade to 1.290 Everytime I downgrade versions I first copy /etc/webmin to = /etc/webmin.copy and then uninstall the version either manually or via rpm (depends which package is installed). Prior to install the older version again I copy /etc/webmin.copy to /etc/webmin and just let it go. Normally this should run without any problems. =46reundliche Gr=FC=DFe / kind regards Martin Mewes Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer - Messaging (MCSE +M 2003) --=20 http://www.mamemu.de/ - mamemu - edv-dienstleistungen http://mbox.mewes.tv/ - mailboxen zum downloaden |

I wonder if there is a bug in postfix module 1.301 (just updated from initial webmin-1.300 bundled version). In webmin 1.290 it is no problem to disable an alias. But with the latest postfix module disabling an alias deletes it. This is rather inconvenient. Is this a bug or a problem with my installation? I have not yet updated webmin on the other server and there, enabling/disabling aliases in postfix works flawlessly. Regards, Marc |

I want to change the subject line and the text of the alert emails for the service monitor in webmin. The subject line and the alerts are so long that when I send them to my cell phone, the subject and the message body both get cut off. Where I can find the text so that I can shorten it?=20 =20 Thanks, =20 Ms. Jimi Thompson, CISSP Manager of Web Operations SMU Cox School of Business =20 |

Hi i just went to update a virtual server as i have done many times before. it shows the usual icons and the name of the server but click on edit directives and it open the whole httpd.conf file! i see for www.example.com:80 (in bold and not a link OE auto convert) Use the text box below to manually edit the Apache directives in /etc/httpd/conf/httpd.conf that apply to this virtual server, directory or files. text box here example first few lines! # -FrontPage- version=5.0 # # Based upon the NCSA server configuration files originally by Rob McCool. # # This is the main Apache server configuration file. It contains the # configuration directives that give the server its instructions. # See <URL:http://httpd.apache.org/docs-2.0/> for detailed information about # the directives. # # Do NOT simply read the instructions in here without understanding # what they do. They're here only as hints or reminders. If you are unsure # consult the online docs. You have been warned. Mark |
