If I turn on using the domain name as a part of a new email user account, entering newuser yields newuser.domainname, and ne...@do... works at the moment of creation... all good. If I turn off using the domain name as a part of a new email user account and then enter newuser.domainname as the user account, upon a revisit to that user's settings shows newuser as the email address and newuser.domainname as the user account, but "Primary email address enabled" is set to 'off' in spite of seeing that it is 'on' during the account creation. When moving new accounts onto a system, sometimes (rarely) we need to use the usernames as they exist on the old host server, so we don't have to help the new client with changing their email clients. Otherwise, I'd leave this set to use the domainname as a part of the username all the time. It seems like I keep getting stung with not remembering to go back into each new user account to enable the primary email address when doing a mix of these accounts. After creating an address like user.domainname, if I try to create the alias us...@do..., it says one already exist, but it can't receive mail. It seems to me like what should be a 'manual' mode is sort of semi-automated here and to me not very logical. Would this be considered a bug or a 'feature'? :) Best, John Hinton |

hi, while celebrating my 365th day of uptime ;) i found a lot of hanging/waiting rpc.cgi processes from webmin versions removed long, long time ago (ie: # ps ax|grep rpc 18103 ? S 0:00 /usr/local/webmin-1.270/rpc.cgi when 1.300 is installed. maybe you should kill them when upgrading. which reminds me, it is quite hard to cluster-update webmin, because you limit this functionality to servers which are interconnected with the "fast rpc mode" which seems to be in the end nothing more, as that i need to keep up some ports above 10000. now, i'm in the situation, that i cannot open more than some 20 ports in the hardware firewall my provider offers me and stupidely - i canot open ranges, so i cannot connect my webmin servers "fast" in the webmin sense although the speed between them is 100mbit. couldn't you make this limitation optional? regards, PAT |

There isn't any way to do this unfortunately - the ssh command that Webmin uses for remote backups has no bandwidth limiting capabilities. I believe there is a third-party rsync backup module that may be able to help though.. and rsync has a command-line flag to limit bandwidth usage. - Jamie |

hello jamie, is there a way, could you implent a speed throttle for remote file backups (via ssh or ftp). the backup server of my webserver is connected over the same interface like the world and access to my webservers gets considerably slower when doing a backup, so i need something like "nice 19" for transfer speed when doing a backup. regards, PAT |

Hi Jamie, Yes, I am able to change the samba password via the 'Edit Samba users and passwords'. Is there any way to allow access to a webmin user to change only his samba user pass? When I allow a user to access that menu he got the whole samba user list. With the Linux password no problem because I can restrict it by clicking the "only this user" button in the change password properties window when I create the webmin group. Regards, --Ivan. Hi Ivan, To have Webmin change the Samba password at the same time as the Unix pas= sword, you need to go to the Samba module, click on the 'Configure automa= tic Unix and Samba user synchronisation' icon, and select the checkbox to= have sync user changes. That option you mentioned in smb.conf is for going the other direction - = passing password changes from Windows clients to the Unix password file. - Jamie -----Original Message----- From: "Ivan Arteaga" <iar...@cw...> Subj: [webmin-l] Change system/samba password via webmin Date: Thu 28 Sep 2006 7:14 pm Size: 1K To: <web...@li...> Hi List, first time posting here... I update my server to webmin 1.303 developer version and fixed my problem. Created test account and it was a member of the default secondary groups I have setup. OK, I see the cause of this - it is a bug in 1.300. It will be fixed in the 1.310 release, and also in the 1.303 development version which will be available from http://www.webmin.com/devel.html in a few hours. - Jamie ------------------------------------------------------------------------ - Take Surveys.
