I have managed to get virtualmin to work so I can start checking the functions... :-)

But I still would be interested if someone is actually using it to maintain a shared hosting platform (and on tips and trics maybe).

yes, i enter webmin and upgrade them by hand from webmin.com, which is a  
bit tedious with 6 servers, so a change here would be helpful..

Actually, yes, I use both; I wasn't aware that the one I was trying to use under "system" was someone else's module.

It started with me wondering why awstats appeared in both sections.....  :\

Are you using the module named 'AWstats Reporting' ? This is the one I created
specifically for use with Virtualmin. The other 'AWStats Logfile Analyzer' was created
by someone else, and I can't really debug it ..

Hello,

I'm reading through lots of documentations on webmin/usermin and virtualmin, but as I don't get virtualmin to work on my fedora4 box, I don't know what I really can do with that (always get the error message when trying to "activate" virtualmin saying that my posfix has no virtual domain. Trying to create one in the postfix menue "Virtual Domains", I get an error message saying "Error while saving a mapping : No map file defined" although I just defined an existing file before in the form).

So my question is more, did anyone of you use webmin (or virtualmin) to create a shared hosting platform which allows similar functionality as Confixx, Plesk, CPanel, VHCS, SysCP or whatever reseller/customer/enduser system?

If yes, maybe the one can tell me what steps I have to go through which would make it a little easier :-) My requirement is not very high, I want to have a mail service (where I can create mailboxes without having to create a unix user for each), separate webspaces with separate accesses, some DNS configs, SSL... All that with the ease of a webapplication :-)

On my server, the AWStats Logfile Analyzer is something like:

http://www.myservername.com:10000/awstats

When I click on a particular "view stats" link, it sends me to:

http://www.myservername.com:10000/awstats/awstats.pl?config=somedomain.com&configdir=/etc/awstats

Good idea .. I've personally been annoyed by needing to scroll down to
the groups list too, and this solves that nicely.

I recommend upgrading to Firefox .. you can just hit / and type in a username,
and the browser will search for it :-)

That is quite odd, as those processes have a timeout that is supposed to
kill them after a few minutes of inactivity. Next time you see one, run the
command :

strace -p $pid

and email me the output.

package itself, or reads it off an NFS shard that all servers have mounted.

Under System / AWStats Logfile Analyzer - click on "view" on the right for any particular log that is listed.

yes, i saw, processes from each version up to 1.300 - and they were a lot,  
around 10-20 per version i think (but i killed them meanwhile)

ok, as i see you send the update package from the master to the slave -  
couldn't you create another update mode in which each clustered server  
would get the signal "update now" as i do it now by hand?

Something screwy seems to be up with awstats since I upgraded to the newest release of virtualmin.  Anyone know of a resource where I can figure out how to use it?

When I click on to "view" the stats reports, I "Error - File not found" - and this is for reports I was already running.  It looks like I have to reconfigure awstats somehow...?

Sadly no .. only in fast mode can there be a persistent connection from
the master to the slave, which is needed for the upgrade.

So you added the .domainname manually? Hmm, that could be confusing
Virtualmin ..

This sounds like a (subtle) bug .. when backing up users, their full username
is not included in the backup, so if you restore on a different system it
will re-create the users with full usernames based on the new system's
template settings.

Why not just simply temporarily change the setting on the target machine to
include the domain name in the username, do the restore, then change it back
if you like?
