I ran tcpdump and it reported nothing. There are no entries in iptables and the port was open before. Where else should I check to see if it's blocked? Would the connection time out if the port was closed? Russell. |

Hi, Webmin -> Webmin Configuration -> Upgrade Webmin, there is a section to "Update modules on schedule" but I can't see a section to upgrade webmin on schedule, how can I schedule webmin upgrades to be done automatically, please? -- Munzir Taha Telecommunications and Electronics Engineer Maintainer of Fedora Arabic Translation Project https://listman.redhat.com/mailman/listinfo/fedora-trans-ar Maintainer of the OpenBugs project page at http://www.arabic-fedora.org/munzir/OpenBugs.html Master CIW Designer, ICDL, MOUS, Linux+, LPI 101 Riyadh, SA |

Now that I already did a fresh install of webmin using the deb package (1.300), the file /usr/share/webmin/install-type contains "deb" on both my systems. I can't verify what it was with the old release since I don't have the old .deb in hand. Now that you mention that it might be already fixed, I forced an upgrade (checking the "upgrade even if new version is the same or older" check box) and, yes... it's downloading the deb package... Anything else I can check and try. If wget works locally, I would suspect a firewall is blocking port 10000 between your server and the client PC. Try running the command : tcpdump port 10000 as root on the Webmin server, and then connecting using your browser. If no packets get displayed by the tcpdump command, then something must be blocking them. - Jamie |

Hi Albert, The .deb package version should certainly upgrade using a new .deb install - if not, that is a bug. However, it may have already been fixed in the 1.300 release, as the 1.290 version .deb was made quite a while ago. What does the /usr/share/webmin/install-type file contain on your system? - Jamie |

Thanks for this release Jamie. I can confirm now that using a "sudo" user is working perfectly now on my Ubuntu systems. While upgrading to this version, I found a problem (a bug???) in the previous release (maybe still in this one)... Originally, I installed the deb package (previous release). When upgrading (using the "upgrade webmin" module), it downloaded and installed the tar.gz instead of the deb... I know that on RedHat based systems, when upgrading a rpm installation, webmin downloads the newer rpm... +-----------------------------------------------------------+ Albert Charron +-----------------------------------------------------------+ Linux Counter member #157482 Registered computers: 195048, 164158, 279022, 323762 +-----------------------------------------------------------+ |

When I upgraded webmin this morning, I started receiving this error in usermin: HTTP/1.0 500 Perl execution failed Server: MiniServ/0.01 Date: Mon, 18 Sep 2006 13:34:58 GMT Content-type: text/html Connection: close Error - Perl execution failed Modification of non-creatable array value attempted, subscript -24 at boxes-lib.pl line 79. After upgrading usermin, the error went away. I am pretty sure it is related to the upgrade of webmin - those you upgrade and use usermin may want to be sure to upgrade usermin also right away. -Mike |

Hello, Webmin (SSL mode) has been running fine for a while, but I've just tried to access it after a few days and just receive a *timeout message* from my browser. It's running on CentOS4.4 on a remote server, that I just have shell access too, via telnet. I've tried: . Rebooting the server - Webmin appears to restart perfectly . Process list - miniserv is running . Miniserv.error - No error messages . Wget - I used wget from the shell terminal to connect to the webmin port on the localhost and it worked, successfully returning index.html * iptables - Nothing has changed since Webmin was last working, and I've tried shutting it down just to make sure. Note that I also have Usermin running and that is fine. I really can't figure this one out. Any ideas? Anything else I can check and try. Thanks, Russell. |

How can I change Webmin's list of allowed IP addresses from the shell? The file you need to modify is /etc/webmin/miniserv.conf , in particular the allow= or deny= lines. If the allow= line exists, it contains a list of all addresses and networks that are allowed to connect to Webmin. Similarly, the deny= line contains addresses that are not allowed to connect. After modifying this file, you need to run /etc/webmin/stop ; /etc/webmin/start for the changes to take effect. Naturally, the file can only be edited by the root user.
