This is actually a bug in Webmin - the Perl Modules installation code assumes that you will use /tmp/.webmin as your temp files directory, regardless of the configuration on the Advanced Options page! I will fix this in the next release.. or to work around it now, you can edit the file cpan/install.cgi under the Webmin root directory (tyically /usr/libexec/webmin) and change the line containing /tmp/.webmin to /var/.webmin . - Jamie On 27/Jan/2007 13:27 doug robbins wrote .. > First attempt today at installing a perl module from Webmin. First attempt today at installing a perl module from Webmin. It failed, though the reason seemed clear enough: my /tmp directory is mounted noexec and the build script failed. So I set a different tmp directory (/var/.webmin) in Webmin Configuration -> Advanced Options. Also, I set the same tmp dir for "Perl Modules" in "Per-module temporary directories". Then I retried the perl module installation (I'm trying to install File::Tail for which Time::HiRes is a prerequisite). I got this output in Webmin: ------------------ Making, testing and installing Time::HiRes .. Untarring module file Executing gunzip -c /var/.webmin/Time-HiRes-1.9704.tar.gz | tar xvf - .. Any ideas how to resolve? Thanks, Doug |

After upgrading to 1.320, I am unable to change themes in Webmin. The themes module displays whatever theme I choose in the drop down window but the theme seems to be stuck on Webmin Simple. Looked through the mailing list archive and didn't see any comments along the lines below... apologies if I missed them... can't read everything that flies across the list. a) Mandriva 2006 users should know that enabling mod_suexec requires editing this configuration file: /etc/httpd/modules.d/69_mod_suexec.conf and uncommenting the lines there... WebMin / VirtualMin does not appear to be aware of this, and thus mucking around in it is futile b) more importantly, umm... suddenly making this a requirement for VirtualMin to run, and then encouraging people to just enable this seems to be somewhat problematic... if you read the documentation from the Apache Group on this, they are pretty clear that if you don't know what you're doing, you shouldn't enable this. See page below: http://httpd.apache.org/docs/2.0/suexec.html Me, o.k., I can probably handle this, given that I've been sysadmining since 1994... BUT, I made the apparently naive assumption that if enabling this was significant, given that this was an apparently new requirement, that something would pop up somewhere in VirtualMin to say, "Uh, hey - enabling this can bleep up your CGI scripts royally. Make sure your apache suexec configuration is correct and everything still works after you enable this." One of my hosting clients just emailed me to say that all of his cgi scripts were suddenly producing error 500 messages... which, after some investigation, seems to be a common side effect of a misconfigured mod_suexec (all I did to enable it was to uncomment a single line in the file above)... the suexec.log file is filled with entries of this sort, as a result: [2007-01-18 16:20:17]: uid: (0/root) gid: (108/108) cmd: mt-tb.cgi [2007-01-18 16:20:17]: cannot run as forbidden uid (0/mt-tb.cgi) This is the line I uncommented from the modules.d conf file: SuexecUserGroup root apache I haven't put that much time into it, but nothing immediately leaped out at me about how to fix this problem when I glanced through the documentation... I'm wondering if someone on this list can provide me with a quick fix or insight into what I need to modify... I was a bit surprised and apprehensive about enabling this, given that I've never used it before, and it appears my fears were justified. I wonder how many other folks have enabled this, only to run into the same problem? The only choices you have are : 1) Create it as a non-alias domain, and setup web page forwarding/redirects to forward all web traffic to the primary domain. 2) Create the POP3 account in the primary domain, and forward email from the alias. - Jamie |

1. When I create an alias server, a home directory is created for it, e.g= ., /home/User/domains/AliasDomain. Why? There doesn't seem to be any use for the home directory. Web serving, logging, etc is all done with the config of the primary domain. But maybe I'm missing something. 2. After adding an alias server, I can add mail aliases that point to POP accounts on the primary domain. But what if the clients wants a POP accou= nt on the aliased domain? Probably weird, I know :) In order to do it, it seems I'd have to actually add the alias domain as a new virtual server, then edit httpd.conf (removing the new VirtualHost and adding a ServerAli= as entry to the primary domain). Is that right or am I again missing somethi= ng? Thanks for any suggestions... Doug |

Jamie, shellinabox is just what I wanted!!! A couple of questions though .... I have stuff in my windows clipboard that I have "cut" .... I have a vi session open in a shellinabox session, how do I "paste" the contents into the vi session? In SecureCrt, it's "Shft-Ins". Windows - "ctl-v" doesn't seem to work. Is there a manual for shellinabox? You're right, that is a bug! I have just released an update to the BIND module at http://www.webmin.com/updates.html to fix it. - Jamie On 25/Jan/2007 07:11 Grant Peel wrote .. > Hi Jamie, > > I upgraded my Primary Nameserver Webmin and I *think* there is a small > bug... > > When the Bind8 config is set to a small number of zones to display, you > would normally see a message like "there are too many zones to display", > then the links that allow you to add a new zone, create a master zone etc. > Instead, when the 'max zones to display' is set to a number lower than > the > count of zone files you have, the 'there are too many zones to display' > message comes up, BUT none of the links that allow you to do anything show > up either ... > > -Grant > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Jamie Cameron" <jca...@we...> > To: <web...@li...>; > <web...@li...> > Sent: Wednesday, January 24, 2007 4:50 PM > Subject: [webmin-l] Webmin 1.320 released > > > > Hi everyone, > > > > Webmin version 1.320 is now available for download from > > http://www.webmin.com/ and mirror sites.
