I used putty to do this but for the life of me I can't remember how I did it. I'll ask another ex-employee if he remembers. It sucks getting old! 8*))But you said you can or can not ssh into your box from work? These are the instructions I used. : http://www.webmin.com/apache.html i used the easiest option, at the bottom, without a virtual host. Doc, One thing I did change, was that I'm coming into Webmin using a mod-proxy arrangement. I cannot use regular ports, only port 80 at work, so I proxied the x.x.com/webmin directory through localhost:10000, and the reverse as well. Does this preclude me from using the app? I *NEED* to SSH to my box, but the firewall here only allows inbound and outbound traffic on port 80. Is there perhaps a different solution I should look into? Doc, Yah, its running, and SHOULD be configured to allow my ID access. As I say, I can access it through the regular port from Putty or SecureCrt. A buddy of mine can too, from Fl. . I'm coming at it from the internet. And on my laptop, connected via regular DSL (wireless local connection), I have no problem. Ok, Shutting down firefox allowed me to "see" the login script. Now I get : Sorry, could not connect. Java.net connectexception: connection timed out: connect Yet if I connect using SecureCrt, it works. I appologize in advance for being such a nnoob at this, but I'm not all that SSHish. Hello, I'm trying to get an SSH session to my box, but having problems. The Java app loading splashscreen comes up fine, bu then I get a black screen, no prompt to login. I did see a dialog one time, but it went away so fast, I could not enter my username/pw. I have allowed pop-ups from my server, but wonder if there is some other setting i don't have right? This function would save my tuckus !! I need to start/stop servers/daemons, and don't see, for example, how to restart sendmail in any of th options. Thanks in advance for any help. Mairhtin |

Hi Jamie Searching trough mail list i've found out that you maintain Shorewall = Webmin module as core module, so here is my question: Is it possible in Shorewall Firewall Rules screen to have Source and = Destination hosts (IP addresses) separated with space when displayed? If = you put for example 40 IP addresses in either one of those fields, table = becomes so wide that it's hardly readable even on extremely high screen = resolutions as IP addresses make table very wide. If they would be = separated with space, browser would automatically wrap contents of those = columns and it would become readable so we wouldn't have to scroll right = to see rest of the firewall rule. Thanks, regards Ivica Glavocic |

I took another look at the code for this module, and it seems that even though Webmin just calls the Net::LDAP module's search function, this takes a long time to respond on large LDAP databases even though no actual results are requested! However, I managed to find another way to reduce the search size, by specifying a maximum result size to the LDAP server. This will go into the next (1.330) Webmin release. - Jamie |

This can indeed be done, typically be setting up an Apache virtual host to proxy port 80 to port 10000. See http://www.webmin.com/apache.html for the details - just make sure you read the section on using ProxyPass. - Jamie |

Hello, I am at a contract with a client that only allows traffic inbound and outbound through their firewall for port 80. I cannot access my webmin at URL:10000 like I usually can. Is there a way to configure webmin to respond to requests on port 80, but use a different directory? Say : http://www.mydomain.com/webmin ???? I cannot SSH into the machine either, or I would simply do my admin via SSH. Maybe there is an SSH client/server solution that uses a webserver? My needs are a bit urgent, so any assistance is appreciated. Mairhtin O'Feannag mairhtin at mairhtin dot com |

Actually, that is what the module already does. The main page does an LDAP search for matching users, and then checks the number of results available. If this is higher than the maximum set on the Module Config page, it just displays the search form without fetching the full user list. Of course, for this to be useful I assume that the LDAP server doesn't fetch users from it's database until actually asked to.. - Jamie |

Hi Jamie We now have over 1000 users we manage with the LDAP Users module. I have noticed lately that it is becoming very slow bringing up the initial screen. I can imagine things only getting worse as the directory gets larger. I haven't checked the queries My guess is that the module tries to search the LDAP directory for the whole list of users, then after realising there are too many, it then says there are too many to display and fails. Even if I set the maximum number of users or groups to display to 0 or 1 it still takes a fair few seconds to display the opening screen. The recommed method is to process each LDAP user entry one at a time as they are returned. The module would stop when it reached the limit of users for that page which could be a configuration value. The module appears to be using the NET::LDAP library. I had a look at the documentation below and they recommend processing each entry as it is returned: http://search.cpan.org/~gbarr/perl-ldap-0.33/lib/Net/LDAP/FAQ.pod#USING_THE_CALLBACK_SUBROUTINE_APPROACH If we want 100 users to be displayed on the page we print the first 100 entries then quit. If we want users 100-200 we would ignore the first hundred entries and print the second hundred, and so on. Hope the above idea has merit and its possible for you to implement at some stage. Thanks Murray Trainer |
