A parent writes in: we have a brand new Mac OS X version 10.7.2 - we bought this so my daughter could use the same programs as she was using at school - tux paint is the first program we have been trying to download on our computer. I went to the link you provided and tried to download the test link, still, no luck. The program is not responding, and I have to force it to quit. I am not sure what is going on! I've been keeping Martin Fuhrer (who ports Tux Paint to OS X) in the loop, but he's not been replying, so I imagine he's busy. Has anyone else out here tried Tux Pant on OS X 10.7.2, and if so, have you had any luck? The "test link" the parent is talking about is the build that Martin made more recently (long after 0.9.21 was officially released), to try and work around some fontconfig-related issues on newer Macs. It's posted over at http://www.tuxpaint.org/docs/known_issues/ Thanks in advance! -bill! |

Hi, VALO-CD is a Finnish collection of open source software. Now it is available also in English. It contains Tux Paint, which is why I would like to ask for feedback from the people on this list. Do you think that this description of Tux Paint is all right: http://www.valo-cd.org/free_tuxpaint You can also edit the description of Tux Paint in the VALO-CD wiki: http://www.valo-cd.org/wiki/Tux_Paint Thanks for your feedback! -- Best Regards Tomi Toivio Open Source Coordinator http://fi.flossmanuals.net/ to...@fl... +358445488856 |

I cheat. I used MS Paint and made a bunch of quick smooth gradients and saved them to use in Tux. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wc0JAYoU6aM For Tux, maybe you could Imagine, not a fill, but a super size gradient paintbrush, bigger than the page diagonal; left click to pick one end's current color; right click to pick the other end color thru transparent value then swipe a split font (gradient) across the picture, any angle. Any easier? Hi there (your posts didn't go to the list, since you were not subscribed, but I've approved them; Cc'ing you, in case you're still not subscribed). Here's what I do: (1) Paint a line across the middle of the canvas (your 'horizon') (2) Use 'Fill' to fill the top half with the general sky color (e.g., blue), and to fill the bottom with the general ground color (e.g., purple). (3) Use the 'Lighten' and 'Darken' Magic tools to 'paint' stripes of the scene darker or lighter; Or you could use the 'Paint' tool with a fuzzy, transparent brush (or one of the textured ones). (4) Use tools like 'Chalk' to 'mix up' the stripes of color (5) Use 'Smudge' and/or 'Blur' to blend them together A gradient-based fill tool would be very nice, but we don't really have a concept of "the other color" at the moment, so I can't really imagine what the interface would be like to do this... unless it simply did "current color thru transparent"... in other words, a fill that 'faded out' in some direction. I put together an example w/ screenshots, which you can see here: http://www.newbreedsoftware.com/bill/news/images/tuxpaint-gradient-howto-fotowall.jpg -bill! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Colocation vs. Managed Hosting A question and answer guide to determining the best fit for your organization - today and in the future. http://p.sf.net/sfu/internap-sfd2d _______________________________________________ Tuxpaint-users mailing list Tux...@li... https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/tuxpaint-users |

I'm cross-posting to tuxpaint-devel... I personally don't have any spare time to look into this, but just glancing at the list of existing applications, here: http://en.qi-hardware.com/wiki/Applications I see "SuperTux", "FreeDroid", and some other SDL-based games and applications, which means it's likely that, at the very least, the lowest-functionality version of Tux Paint should run on it. (That is, without Pango for advanced UI text rendering (e.g. for Arabic), without SVG support (so only bitmap Stamps & Starters would work). This page: http://en.qi-hardware.com/wiki/Compiling_for_the_NanoNote seems to use a "hello-sdl" program as an example. :) Jane - Have you tried adding Tux Paint to the application wishlist that they maintain, here? http://en.qi-hardware.com/wiki/Software_Status If anyone out here tries their hand at this, and needs help, please post your questions to 'tuxpaint-devel'. Obviously, I'd be happy to host the final build in the Tux Paint project over at SourceForge.net, and add the Ben Nanonote version to the Tux Paint 'Downloads' page. Thanks & good kluck! -- -bill! Hello, My question is rather simple, I just try to find how I can get a vertical gradient on an entire drawing, for example a dark sky on top but with a lighter colour underneath. I obtained this effect a few days ago, but I can not remember how I did it successfully! I tried many tools which have an effect on the whole canvas, without results until now. Thank you very much for your help. L. Gallaz |

A few things I notice: * paint tool keeps painting after mouse button is released, and only stops painting the next time the button is pressed (not sure if this is a feature or bug) * shape tools don't draw anything on the canvas (tried different colors and shapes, but no go) * placement of onscreen keyboard for label tool is inconsistent in fullscreen mode * real rainbow magic plugin generates a stray, miniature rainbow at the cursor location when the mouse button is released (in addition to the user defined rainbow) In any case, I'll work on a new Tux Paint build for Mac based on the 0.9.21 code base, with the most recent SDL libraries, to see if this resolves some crashes users have experienced. I had a chance to try out Tux Paint 0.9.21 on an Intel Mac with Snow Leopard over the holidays (I'm still using a PowerPC Mac with Leopard at home), and though I couldn't get it to crash, I did notice a problem with printing (only a portion of the canvas gets printed to the page - on my home Mac, the entire canvas gets printed). Hi Bill, John, Happy New Year! Just wondering whether this build was created from cvs head (together with new plugins and tools, such as the text label tool), or from the 0.9.21 release with a few updates/patches. The last few days I put together a new Mac build from cvs head, but am encountering a few painting anomalies - not sure whether head is currently unstable, or whether I'm encountering some Mac-specific issues. Are you loading these pictures as Starters (i.e., via the 'New' dialog?) It could be a bug related to 0.9.21's support for loading black-and-white (non-transparent) Starter images. However, I just tried starting a new picture with a solid red background, and then immediately starting another new picture with a Starter; first one that has no transparency (newly supported by 0.9.21), the other a PNG with transparency (one of Tux Paint's original Starters from a long time ago). In both cases, the new picture came up on a white background. So I can't replicate the bug using what I have here. Or, are you not using the images as Starters, and simply placing them in Tux Paint's "saved" folder, and then access them via the 'Open' dialog? In either case, if you'd be willing to email me (privately, off-list) a copy of the image(s) you're trying to use, I can take a look and investigate. Thanks & happy new year! -bill! |

Hello, this is Bill Kendrick, lead developer of Tux Paint. This is just a brief note to let you know that a new version of Tux Paint for Windows has been released. It corrects an issue that affected the latest few releases (version 0.9.20 from June 2008 and version 0.9.21 from July 2009). When Tux Paint is first launched, it can take a very long time for it to respond while it looks for fonts that it can use on your computer. Often, this can lead to a warning message stating that Tux Paint may have crashed. Usually, subsequent launches respond much more quickly, since Tux Paint already knows about your fonts. This minor update, version 0.9.21b, should no long appear to have crashed while searching for fonts. Additionally, the font-gathering step should take much less time. [*] It is available for Windows 7, Vista, XP and 2000 as an installer ("setup") program, which can be downloaded right now, at no cost, from the official Tux Paint website: http://www.tuxpaint.org/download/windows/ Enjoy, and happy new year! -bill! (With kudos to John Popplewell, a contributing volunteer who helps make the Windows version of Tux Paint possible!) [*] These improvements, plus many other new features, will be included in the next version of Tux Paint (0.9.22) for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux. (Linux was unlikely to be affected by the issue, since fonts were managed outside of Tux Paint.) Unfortunately, there is no estimated release date for the next version, which is why we released this minor update for Windows users. |

I've been importing new pics to use in Tux, but the background colour changes when I open them. The original is white, the thumbnail in Tux is white but when I open one the background turns red. AM I missing something in the transparency settings? Any advice appreciated. -- View this message in context: http://old.nabble.com/Imported-pic-background-colour-change-tp30494181p30494181.html Sent from the tuxpaint-users mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

They're just PNG files, which you should be able to easily place on a website. (Or, convert them to GIF or JPEG first, but be aware that those formats will cause quality loss.) http://www.tuxpaint.org/gallery/submit/ Good luck! -bill! |

Hi Antonio - Unfortunately, Tux Paint doesn't have a concept of a trash can, or does it (currently) use the desktop environment's (e.g., "Recycle Bin" on Windows, "Trash" most other places). At this point, you'll need to use an Undelete tool, and hope for the best. I wonder how difficult it is to invoke each OS's 'move to trash' functionality, because that might be a safer way of handling things. (Even though Tux Paint already asks "Are you sure?" Obviously, that doesn't help 100% of the time :) ) Sorry & good luck! -bill! |

Hello my son accidentally removed one of his TuxPaint pictures. ¿Is there any way of recovering it? TuxPaint is running in Windows NT. I have search around temp directorys and so on without success. I couldn't find nor the png nor the dat files. Thanks in advance. Best Regards. -- Antonio |
