I think that sounds like a very usable feature which fits nicely into the seq24 live ideology. This should definately go to the blueprints. - Jaakko 2008/11/30, Guido Scholz <gui...@ba...>: > Hi all, > I would like to publish this feature request I just got from Frank Kober: > > 8<------------ > > Although there are many MIDI trackers, the linux world seems to be > somewhat lacking a traditional pattern-based composer in which you > can predefine several sequence-selection patterns and then smoothly > switch over between these "sequence-selection patterns" just by > pressing a key. > > SEQ24 almost has that already: You can currently make multiple > selections by holding a specific modifier key (alt, ctl, etc..) and > then the sequence selection gets active only after the previous > sequences finish playing. > > My feature request just goes in the direction of improving this > functionality, so that should not be very difficult to implement: > > I would like to see a range of say 10 buttons in the top menu, each > corresponding to a previously stored active/inactive sequence pattern. > And once one of these buttons is pressed, the previous setup finishes > playing (that is important) and then it activates the new pattern. Hi all, here is another one: 8<---------------------- The current MIDI connection order in the port list is by port numbers. This is not very practical since it depends on the order the different applications were launched, and when a previously saved seq24 file is loaded it does not necessarily reconnect to the original ports. If port names (stripped off the port number) were used, the reconnection would be more solid and ease things a lot. Qtractor does it that way now and it almost never fails to reconnect properly. Thanks to all of you for getting back on this project Frank 8<---------------------- Guido -- http://www.bayernline.de/~gscholz/ http://www.lug-burghausen.org/ |

Hi all, I would like to publish this feature request I just got from Frank Kober: 8<------------ Although there are many MIDI trackers, the linux world seems to be somewhat lacking a traditional pattern-based composer in which you can predefine several sequence-selection patterns and then smoothly switch over between these "sequence-selection patterns" just by pressing a key. SEQ24 almost has that already: You can currently make multiple selections by holding a specific modifier key (alt, ctl, etc..) and then the sequence selection gets active only after the previous sequences finish playing. My feature request just goes in the direction of improving this functionality, so that should not be very difficult to implement: I would like to see a range of say 10 buttons in the top menu, each corresponding to a previously stored active/inactive sequence pattern. And once one of these buttons is pressed, the previous setup finishes playing (that is important) and then it activates the new pattern. It's just saving the current active/inactive pattern into a structure that holds several such patterns. Storing a pattern could be done by holding a modifier and pressing the button. And that would be a great tool for live performance. AFAIK there is no other application that can do it that way. Song mode is not a replacement for this. Is this feasible? Many thanks for your comments on this Cheers Frank 8<------------ Guido -- http://www.bayernline.de/~gscholz/ http://www.lug-burghausen.org/ |

Do you open the file using the "File/Open" dialog, or do you use an other trick? Does the filename and/or directory name contain non ASCII characters? Can you check if the current repository verion (41) still shows this error? Guido -- http://www.bayernline.de/~gscholz/ http://www.lug-burghausen.org/ |

Hi, I would like to congratulate all the team of seq24 for the new release. I though it was a dead project since 2006. But thanks to you the project go on. It's really a great news. I would like to ask you some features. I saw few features I would like in the "blueprint". One of the most important for me would be the possibility to run Seq24 as a Midi Slave. Perhaps you saw faw messages recently on the Linux Audio User from me, searching desperately ONE software on linux that can be controlled as a slave.... It's very very hard. And my favourite sequencer to play live is ... seq24 :). Rosegarden can't, Ardour can't... I didn't try muse because it doesn't compile on my system... :p I tryed also several trackers, but I am not confortable with this kind of sequencers. In fact I found kmiditracker, which has the possibility to be ran as a slave. But the tempo is very unstable and changes every time. So it's very unusable for me. But perhaps you could look at the code to see what the have done... Here is the soft : http://www.sourcefiles.org/Multimedia/MIDI/Sequencers/kmiditracker-0.5.13.tar.bz2 You can look at the tracker.cpp file. I saw some codes realated to midi sync. An other small feature, would be the possibility to zoom in vertically... But the midi sync is the most important. Thank you for keeping this project alive. I mean you can use the bundle without "installation". I found very useful while my rave party sessions where I can use a live cd of Ubuntu 8.04 and an USB stick with some of stuffs bundled there. So you click on the file and it run directly without installation: single(double) click = the program running A part of this and that is compiled and optimized for i686 there is no more really advantage. Do you guys have some suggestions on this? How is it your hydrogen configuration? Do you use it? The thing is, I connect an output of seq24 in the input of hydrogen. Then I create a sequence in seq24, I can hear the drums alright. When i hit 'play' i hear no sound until I hit play in hydrogen. I can hit play in hydrogen before hitting playing in seq24, this also works, but regardless i need to go to hydrogen. Hydrogen should just play the midi it receives (from seq24 or other midi sources) regardless of the state of the transport. I've never had to hit "play" in hydrogen to be able to use it as an instrument with seq24. Maybe you should ask from the Hydrogen forums since it sounds like the problem is not in the seq24 end. - Jaakko |

Hi folks, Thanks for the help. Indeed the Song Mode/Live Mode are important to playing it correctly. I managed to get it to work now. I just have one small problem: when it is connected to hydrogen the drum sequence in seq24 only plays when I hit the play button in hydrogen. Is it so or do we have another way to play it automatically? Nevertheless, great application, I'm really impressed. Oh, I failed to mention this :) Practically it's the same thing as turning on "dump midi to bus" from the button in the lower right corner of the pattern window. - Jaakko |

Are the loops in the main window black or white? By default they are white, but you have to click on them to make them active, which changes their colour to black. Cheers! Daniel |

I'd appreciate some help. I remember reading about this problem before but didn't figure out what was actually wrong. I can just start by asking a few questions: - Is the "dump midi to bus" option enabled for the pattern? - this maybe a stupid question, but it would effectively stop you from getting any midi output :) - Are you using Song or Live mode? This can be changed from the options. I remember having some confusion in the beginning when I had the song mode enabled since if I recall corretly it requires you to actually have something in the song/composition. Please try the Live mode for just playing single (or multiple) patterns if you haven't done it already :) - Have you tested the "manual alsa ports" option? This would of course also require you to manually route the alsa midi connections with qjackctl. I don't know if it helps, but at least you have better control over what's happening. It's also the only way to get LASH play nicely with seq24. - What do you mean with "get stuck"? Do you mean the "animation" in the upper right corner of the main window doesn't start up? BR, Jaakko |
