You're not seeing the signature because your Pine display filter is verifying the message when you try to view it. If you want to see the raw signature, you need to look at the message by just looking at your mailbox file or in the maildir, or disable your display filter. -- Frank Tobin http://www.neverending.org/~ftobin/ |

Hello, I'm quite new to pgpenvelope, but I experience a problem with signing, at least, that's what I think. First of all my specs: * Debian 3.0, kernel 2.4.18 * gpg (GnuPG) 1.2.2 * Perl v5.8.0 * pgpenvelope 2.10.2 Now when I sign a message, I get such an output: | <snip headers> | Subject: Test | | -----pgpenvelope processed message | | This is a test, | | -- | Menno | | -----pgpenvelope information | Hash: SHA1 | Version: GnuPG v1.2.2 (GNU/Linux) | | gpg: Signature made Tue Aug 12 11:47:14 2003 CEST using DSA key ID | 5A07F801 | gpg: Good signature from "Menno Blom <me...@b1...>" | | pgpenvelope_decrypt: message processed at Tue Aug 12 11:47:20 2003 | | -----end pgpenvelope information Now, shouldn't the "Hash: SHA1" portion go all the way and shouldn't I see the clearsign signature instead of gpg-output? I've googled on this like crazy, tried the "PERLIO=stdio" environment setting, but no luck so far. Any clues what might be wrong? Kind Regards, -- Menno |

Running 2.10.2, on Redhat9, i386. For the required modules, I got the latest version of all from CPAN (one of the ones included errored out in 'make test', so I opted for the newest). Every time I invoke pgpenvelope, I get this: Duplicate specification "decryption-program|decryptionprogram=s" for option "decryptionprogram" Duplicate specification "encryption-program|encryptionprogram=s" for option "encryptionprogram" I even went as far as to do this to my 'prefs': ... encryption-program = GnuPG decryption-program = GnuPG ... Still I get this warning. Anyone else seen this / know how to make it be quiet ? pgpenvelope seems to work fine otherwise. -- Brandon Applegate - CCIE 10273 PGP Key fingerprint: 7407 DC86 AA7B A57F 62D1 A715 3C63 66A1 181E 6996 "SH1-0151. Hi! I am up to install pgpenvelope. I just have 2 questions: (1) Does pgpenvelope support encrypting and decrypting of the whole message, including attachments? (2) Procmail does check the PGP signature right after my computer receives the mail. If I did not import the signature in advance, will I be able to check it with pine afterwards? Thanks for your answers! Greetings, Claus |

Okay, for right now, I've turned on blocking text/html (which blocks 90% of my spam at the SMTP layer). If spam continues to be a problem I'll close the list to member-posting only. -- Frank Tobin http://www.neverending.org/~ftobin/ |

Eh, well, it can actually be used outside of Pine too. Obviously Phillip realizes that it can be used outside of Pine. pgpenvelope is quite generic, and nothing quite ties it to Pine; it just reads some stuff on stdin, asks questions on the tty (when sending), and prints output to stdout. You could use it as a command-line application outside of Pine if you wanted to without a problem. I just *market* it as useful for Pine; it's a fair terminal-oriented front-end :) -- Frank Tobin http://www.neverending.org/~ftobin/ |

I know that. I just thought I could misuse it. Because the procmail-filter does already the receiving part. The specification you talk about really have little in common with pgpenvelope_encrypt. In fact, there is really nothing in pgpenvelope_encrypt that would be reusable, I think, for the purposes you have in mind. -- Frank Tobin http://www.neverending.org/~ftobin/ |

It doesn't make sense to have pgpenvelope_encrypt not be UI-centric; the entire purpose of it is to be friendly UI to GnuPG, reading on stdin, writing on stdout. Without the UI, you would need to specify things like recipients, signing/encryting, etc. If you just want to do that, just run GnuPG plain! pgpenvelope_decrypt with --filter is another story; it is meant to be entirely automated, and doesn't need user input (except maybe a passphrsae, but GnuPG is the one that asks for that). -- Frank Tobin http://www.neverending.org/~ftobin/ |

I'm trying to use pgpenvelope as a pgp-gateway, it works fine for decryption/verifcation. but there does not seem to be command-line parameter to disable the ui in pgpenvelope_encrypt. is that correct? Philipp Hug |

Are thinking about implementing that or do you known about an tool which can do that? I don't want to change pine for something which support it. I'm not too sure what you mean by your first statement; the transformation is fairly straightforward, but I'm not aware of any tool that does it, and I don't plan on implementing it myself in the near future. Problem is that for most common tasks (sign only, send unmodified) are command keys diferent, so you have to be always carefull and read it all, maybe it is purpose but I don't like it. It slow me down. This is reason why pgpenvelope is more comfortable to me :) Sounds like a very bad user interface for pgp4pine, having different keys for different options depending on something as small as not having a key for a user. Now I'm using pgp4pine for checking signatures (it is faster [not if I will preprocess messages with procmail, I known], and less talk [it put message only at end of verified message]) and pgpenvelope as sending filter. Thanks for it I personally use the procmail filter part of pgpenvelope to check signatures, so that while inside of Pine, nothing has to be processed. But, from your example, it's obvious you can mix and match :) - -- Frank Tobin http://www.neverending.org/~ftobin/ -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (FreeBSD) Comment: pgpenvelope 2.10.2 - http://pgpenvelope.sourceforge.net/ iEYEARECAAYFAjvxltIACgkQVv/RCiYMT6Nk8ACfVmasfX3Qp2rxkWpcVX0FbPRK TQkAn3Pdr3/IepoALbV581dGiO42xI7/ =ENiw -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

I'm using pgp4pine and it isn't able to handle this, your
pgpenvelope at first look seemed to be able to handle this because
it can work as filter ... but it doesn't -- it leaves message
unmodified :( Did I miss something or this realy isn't supported?
Unfortunately, pgpenvelope nor pgp4pine can handle MIME messages while
inside of Pine very well because of limitations of Pine. Kinda sad,
really, since Pine was one of the first mailers to implement MIME at all,
and now its support for it inside of filters is very poor.
The best place this can be handled is inside of a procmail script that
converts OpenPGP/MIME to cleartext signatures, but I haven't implemented
it.
Anyway I like way how you implemented outgoing messages
signing/ecrypting so I will use this part :)
Thanks :) I'm curious; I've never used pgp4pine; what exactly do you like
about pgpenvelope over pgp4pine?
