Obviously Phillip realizes that it can be used outside of Pine. pgpenvelope is quite generic, and nothing quite ties it to Pine; it just reads some stuff on stdin, asks questions on the tty (when sending), and prints output to stdout. You could use it as a command-line application outside of Pine if you wanted to without a problem.
