I am pleased to announce the third bugfix release of the OpenSTA 1.4 series. This release contains some small bug fixes but mostly it is to make available big changes to the build system and source organization. Because of this, the recommendation is only to upgrade only if you feel like taking a small risk :-) The Microsoft Windows installable (MSI) and the source package are being made available from the OpenSTA SourceForge file area: http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=10857 The changes in this release (from 1.4.1) are: * bugs fixed: 225790 - "Export to Excel" gets header text for data columns 728102 - URL in HTTP stats exported to csv no longer truncated 728358 - Icon transparency issues in Modeler fixed 699730,699741 - OpenSTA dataname verification in GUIs * include this file and the BUGS file in the MSI installation * minor help updates * make sure most of the installed binaries have correct version resources and improve code structure to make it easier to update product versions * many and varied improvements to the build * system, including completely clean build (no warnings) and ability to build under latest Microsoft Platform SDK (although not yet recommended) Any problems with the product toolset should, as usual, be reported at: http://sourceforge.net/bugs/?group_id=10857 Thank you, /dan -- Daniel Sutcliffe <DanSut@OpenSTA.org> OpenSTA part-time Caretaker Visit the OpenSTA Community Site - http://portal.opensta.org/ |

Hi again, I wrote: > We are pleased to announce the third release of the developer > (unstable) 1.1 series of OpenSTA. Which is correct, however the subject line is wrong :-( This is, of course, release 1.1.3 [thanks zdnek] I must also report that the initial MSI uploaded to opensta.org was also a pre-release test, not the intitial version :-( The archive file now uploaded and called ostaw32-x86-1103.msi is the correct one. MSI's of this name dated the 21 June should be discarded and the real latest version downloaded, sorry. Please visit: http://opensta.org/download.html again if you have already downloaded the installable. The OpenSTA team have obviously been working too hard (or drinking too much :-) and wish to apologize for any inconvenience this mix-up has caused. We are pleased to announce the second release of the developer (unstable) 1.1 series of OpenSTA. This release continues work on the large architectural changes introduced in version 1.1.0. The release is labled version 1.1.2, version 1.1.1 was never published. If you are upgrading from any previous version of OpenSTA to version 1.1.2 you will need to ensure that each of your defined profiles (now called collectors) have been opened in the GUI before they are used in a test. There should be no need to edit each configuration, simply viewing them should update them to the upgraded specification. This release is available both as a Microsoft Windows Installable from: http://opensta.org/download.html and as a full source package form: http://opensta.sourceforge.net/download.html The changes in this release include: * Scheduling and Delays for task groups * Stop and start for individual task groups * Ability to specify time period for which a task or task groups runs * Ability to add a new task to a currently active test * Ability to have tests which only include data collection * Single replay executable for running multiple task groups * Architecture changes to simplify Test management. * Architecture changes for improved data communications * Configuration tab now provides dynamic task group status information * Additional properties for controlling ramping up of virtual users * SCL source line now used within the Audit log * Now uses a tree view for selecting monitoring windows * Added Virtual User graph to monitoring. In order to avoid these issue we have been experimenting building against alternative libraries. In order to test these trials a seperate installable of this release is again being made available for test purposes and those having problems on SMP machines. This can be found at: http://opensta.org/binaries/tests/ostaw32-x86-1001-smp.msi If you use this experimental installation please report your results to the OpenSTA users mailing list. Any problems with the product toolset should, as usual, be reported at: http://sourceforge.net/bugs/?group_id=10857 Thank you, /dan -- Daniel Sutcliffe, OpenSTA Project Leader <DanSut@OpenSTA.org> --=-*-=-- http://opensta.org/ --=-*-=-- "Ambivalent? This is a direct result of feedback from the=20 over 3000 users of OpenSTA accrued since September 17th 2000=20 when OpenSTA 0.9.0 was originally released. "The infrastructure that we have built up in the last 6 months=20 has been specifically customer-driven", said Noelle Beaudin,=20 Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Development. "This=20 is not customers in the traditional sense. These are business=20 leaders that see the value in paying directly for services=20 instead of licenses. CIOs have realized the return on investment=20 with implementing an open and quickly evolving solution for their=20 IT staff, while highly technical users of OpenSTA have provided=20 valuable feedback on the ease of use of OpenSTA and how best=20 Support can be offered. All of our service offerings have been=20 designed directly from this customer feedback and this is something=20 that CYRANO will continue to do." CYRANO Services for OpenSTA, pricing and where to purchase As of March 1 2001, the following services will be offered=20 through CYRANO: Support Agreements --------------------- Support agreements are offered so that users of OpenSTA are=20 guaranteed resolution of bugs that they report, and can be=20 provided with immediate access to a Help Desk. These advanced professional=20 service offerings build on CYRANO's longstanding experience in the=20 application testing marketplace to help customers determine the right=20 way to test for their organizations and establish long-term strategies=20 for ongoing reliability of business critical applications. So that Project managers, IT managers and their staff can build testing=20 implementation processes that are mapped to business objectives, gain=20 understanding of tools that aid them in the recreation, measurement and=20 analysis of application performance issues, so that system changes and=20 system deployment can meet established timelines. Feature enhancements: Billed according to Developer Time -------------------------------------------------------- If a customer of OpenSTA requests a specific feature enhancement to=20 OpenSTA, a CYRANO Developer can produce a contract based on the=20 amount of time to produce this feature enhancement. The enhancement=20 may then be rolled out to the customer, and Development owns the right=20 to put this enhancement into OpenSTA or not. =20 Future Offerings around OpenSTA ------------------------------- "CYRANO wants to be able to achieve something that has never been=20 done before in the web-application testing and analysis marketplace."=20 Said Noelle Beaudin, Vice President of Marketing and Corporate=20 Development. "We want to be in the position to provide an entire=20 long-term strategy for all business users. This means providing a=20 specific solution for everyone that is involved in a web-application,=20 not just the performance testing and monitoring aspects." "As part of the future OpenSTA strategy, business users will be=20 able to plug-in new commercial components that build onto the=20 existing core architecture and central repository so that as=20 their web application environment grows, so too can their single=20 solution for testing, monitoring, and analysis. This theory allows=20 business users to use OpenSTA for both Development and Quality=20 Assurance, through to Production, and on to Management making it=20 the only tool designed to uniquely fit the needs of Test Engineers,=20 DBAs, WebMasters and CIOs." "We are already near to history in the making." Said Robert Ernens,=20 Chairman and CEO of CYRANO. "In the next several weeks we will be=20 releasing the details of what is to come. For me personally, this=20 is the beginning of a new era in CYRANO. And one that will be as=20 exciting as the last 5 months." We are very pleased to announce the initial release of the OpenSTA 1.0 stable series. This is version 1.0.0 This release signifies that no more major changes will be attempted to this code path and we are reasonably sure of it's stability. We encourage all users to upgrade to this release and report any bugs found. Bug fixes and some minor enhancements will appear as update releases in the coming weeks. Once we are sure we have fixed any initial problems in the OpenSTA 1.0 series, a 1.1 series code branch will be created to contain new developments, any major changes and enhancements. This 1.1 series will be a developer series and should be seen as unstable, the 1.0 series will continue to have bugs fixed in it, as they are found, to further increase its stability. This release is available both as a Microsoft Windows Installable from: http://opensta.org/download.html and as the full source package from: http://opensta.sourceforge.net/download.html Any problems with the product toolset should, as usual, be reported at: http://sourceforge.net/bugs/?group_id=10857 At the time of this release I would like to encourage all users to visit: http://opensta.com/ where it possible to find out about purchasing commercial services and products based around the OpenSTA 1.0 series. Doing this will help to fund OpenSTA's further development. Thank you, /dan -- Daniel Sutcliffe, OpenSTA Project Leader <DanSut@OpenSTA.org> --=-*-=-- http://opensta.org/ --=-*-=-- "Ambivalent?
