Hello, everybody!
I am writing a C# program, that uses gnuplot via piping. See a minimal
example in the attachment. (You probably have to fit the gnuplot path to
your installation or use an environment variable just like me.)
This console program calls gnuplot und plots the function x+y. But after
that, gnuplot is not closed correctly. If you close the wxt window, the
command
gpProc.WaitForExit();
still blocks, although
bind Close "exit gnuplot"
is set in gnuplot.
But in fact, I don’t care about this. The critical point is: If you hit
a key (e. g. try to close the window with q or Alt + F4), gnuplot seems
to hang.
I am using:
– Windows XP 32bit
– gnuplot 4.6.0 (latest released version; same problem with 4.4.4)
– Windows Visual C# 2010 (other compilers are not an option and I didn’t
try others yet)
– .Net-Framework 4.0 (same problem with 3.5 and probably others)
This problem does not occur under linux. I am not sure, whether it is
caused by windows or by gnuplot. In any case gnuplot can be closed
correctly by uncommenting
gpcommands.WriteLine("exit");
Hope you can help or give an advice.
Thanks!
Greetings
Frank

so you want the xtic labels, but don't want the label values to be
plotted?
try this:
fprintf(pipe, "plot 'data.d' using 2:xtic(1) t col, '' u 3 ti col, '' u 4 ti
col\n");

Never mind. My data file was not formatted correctly. I had blank lines between each data line. Plot will not do "with lines" in that case. |

Hi I am trying to do a simple x-y plot with the following very simple script: set xlabel "y-displacement" set ylabel "Percent difference" plot "Results/Channels_12/average_percent_diff.dat" using 1:2 title 'Average' with lines But it does not work. the legend (key) is visible and indicates that a solid line will be used in the plot but there is no line plot of the data visible. If I remove "with lines" then I get a point-type plot but I can't seem to get a line-type plot. What am I doing wrong? |

you are requesting xtics explicitly:
fprintf(pipe, "plot 'data.d' using 1:xtic(1) t col, '' u 2 ti col, '' u 3 ti
col, '' u 4 ti col\n");
remove "xtic(1)" from the "plot" command and there should be no xtics
anymore.

That conclusion is most probably invalid. Neither the sheer number of data points, nor the data being noisy, will cause the fit not to "match", just like that. More likely 1) the original assumption that an exponential will match that data is wrong, or 2) you're hitting a technical limit of gnuplot's current implementation of 'fit'. |

Hi everybody :) I've a file with >100 000 points, which describe an exponential function, but as the curve is not smooth at all, the fit doesn't match. I want to use the smooth function of GNUPLOT, and then do a fit of the "smoothered" curve. Is that possible ? Hi, I was just experimenting with some older code I have in the new 4.6
release and I have discovered that while the 4.4 code seemed to handle
tail recursion moderately well, 4.6 does not see any difference. As a
result, the recursion limit of 250 is slapped on.
E.g. in 4.6
gnuplot> tr(x, s) = (x < 1 ? s : tr(x-1, s+x))
gnuplot> print tr(250,0)
31375
gnuplot> print tr(251,0)
recursion depth limit exceeded
By contrast, the non tail-recursive function
t(x) = (x < 1 ? 0 : x+t(x-1))
only has a stack overflow at x=250.
in 4.4, print tr(20000,0) worked fine, while t(99) gave a stack
overflow.
gnuplot> show all
G N U P L O T
Version 4.6 patchlevel 0 last modified 2012-03-04
Build System: Linux i686
Question: is this an intended change?

when using 'dgrid3d' the z values in the plot are computed as weighted averages or spline interpolation of scattered points. the usage of 'dgrid3d' makes sense for non-grid data. you have grid data, so the only thing you need to do is to seperate the datablocks (representing y-isolines) with an empty line in the datafile, i.e. a blank line between each x=-20 and x=-6. then 'unset dgrid3d' and 'splot' again. Hi, I want to plot a histogram in using the standard histogram style. However, the clustered bars are not centered about the corresponding label at the x-axis. This is a sample code to show how I want to use it: reset set style data histograms set style histogram cluster plot '-' u 1 10 e If I got it right, the result should be a single bar of height 10, centered about 0 at the x-axis. Yet the bar is not centered, but its left border is placed at 0: http://old.nabble.com/file/p33870960/histogram.png So it is 0.5 * boxwidth too far to the right. If I include a second data line, it is the same: the xtic should be exactly between the two bars, yet it appears at the center of bar 1, so again the bars are 0.5 * boxwidth too far to the right. This is always the case, no matter how many bars are plotted. Am I missing any option to get the histogram clusters centered? Or is there a way to "move" the bars by 0.5 * boxwidth to the left? By the way, I'm using Version 4.4 patchlevel 2 on a Fedora system. Thanks for any hint! Hi, The values of the data I want to plot are in the range of 0-65535, integers only. But they represent float values in the range of 0.9 to 2.7 Is it possible to hide the fact, that this range of float values is represented by integers completly from the user...will say: The axis marking should be according to the float values, the values printed when sliding with the cursor over the graph should be floats, a zoom box (this blue box one can create with the right mouse button) should print float values and so on...??? Thank you very much in advance for any help! Best regards, mcc |

Maybe some script-fu like this will do it for you? http://users.softlab.ntua.gr/~ttsiod/gnuplotStreaming.html |

Not really. gnuplot doesn't do real-time plotting. It can be plenty fast, but it won't do any sliding-window buffering of a continuous input stream for you. You would have to do that yourself (e.g. by filling a file with the "little of the past" you want to display), and keep on sending "replot" requests to gnuplot to update the display. |

Hi, before I go in-depth with gnuplot and its manual I want to evaluate, whether it is the right choice for the task I try to accomplish. I googled for this but fail to find anything relevant -- nay be due to the fact that I am no native english speaker and therefore dont have the right search terms handy. >From an embedded device I receive data in textual form in the Logview OpenFormat-like manner. I pln to implement a small converter to convert this data into a gnuplot readable format. The thing, which gives me headaches is: Is it possible (and how) to read data and stream them into gnuplot so gnuplot is displaying the current state (and a little of the past) all the time? Thank you very much in advance for any help! Best regards, mcc |
