set title "y={/Symbol @{\140}\326}x"
Did I miss something to get it work?

Subject: squre root display error in gnuplot 4.6 wxt
Hello,
I just tried gnuplot 4.6, the squre root display for terminal windows enhanced works fine,
but it doesn't work for wxt enhanced in gnuplot 4.6.
set title "y={/Symbol @{\140}\326}x"
is there a way to get it work in wxt enhanced terminal?
thanks.

Hi Thomas, thank you for your suggestion but when I try that it aborts with
the following error:
plot 'mydata_mibench_CRC32.dat' using
(100.*$2/$6):(int($0)%5==0?stringcolumn(1):"") t column(2), for [i=3:5]
'mydata_mibench_CRC32.dat' using (100.*column(i)/column(6)) title column(i)
^
"plot.gpi", line 34: Too many columns in using specification
my original line looked like this:
32 i = 5
33 plot 'mydata_mibench_CRC32.dat' using
(100.*$2/$6):(int($0)%5==0?stringcolumn(1):"") t column(2), \
34 for [i=3:5] 'mydata_mibench_CRC32.dat' using
(100.*column(i)/column(6)) title column(i)
Any ideas?
On a slightly unrelated note: my posts still show as pending, 3 days
later... but I'm registered and can't tell that I have any formatting
errors. Thoughts?
Thank you for your help!

Dear All, I have spent a lot time fixing the size of the boxes in the multiplot environment. The issue is basically that for fixed box sizes, the actual size to display a graph changes with say ytics width and lmargin. Using the default, the very left boxes would appear smaller than the right boxes to be displayed. I am wondering whether there is a way to fix the actual size for displaying the graphs, but shift the tics position (which I don't care) in default. An illustration of my issue is in the attachment, note the left boxes have different sizes and alignment. I need to very carefully adjust lmargin to bring the boundaries back to good alignment and of comparative sizes. Thank you very much for your kind help, Sincerely, Jon |

Hello,
I just tried gnuplot 4.6, the squre root display for terminal windows enhanced works fine,
but it doesn't work for wxt enhanced in gnuplot 4.6.
set title "y={/Symbol @{\140}\326}x"
is there a way to get it work in wxt enhanced terminal?
thanks.

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to generate a rowstacked histogram for various data points
My data snippet looks like this:
1 #Gnuplot data
2 Range Global Heap Stack Unidentified Total
3 9999 4258 0 5740 0 10000
4 19999 3236 0 6764 0 10000
5 29999 3356 0 6644 0 10000
6 39999 3261 0 6739 0 10000
7 49999 3291 0 6709 0 10000
8 59999 3148 0 6852 0 10000
9 69999 3292 0 6708 0 10000
and my script is attached, but the key line is below:
30 i = 5
31 plot 'mydata.dat' using (100.*$2/$6):xtic(1) t column(2), \
32 for [i=3:5] 'mydata_mibench_jpeg.dat' using
(100.*column(i)/column(6)) title column(i)
The problem I'm getting is that I don't want every xtic to be printed. I
have thousands of lines and ideally I want to print only every X^{th} line.
I found this
https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!topic/comp.graphics.apps.gnuplot/M_ldKLSFXwg
page , but when i try to use something similar I get an error.
So to recap: I would like to print column 1 as my xtic but I want to print
only every X^{th} xtic.
Does anybody know how to achieve this?
Regards,
Tommy

Well, 30 is rather enormously big for a little annotation. At that size, your whole plot is only about 30 x 30 characters big. Your cbtics gobble up 20% of the width of the whole plot. > Is there a work-around that would keep the font size used in the > cbaxis as well as the aspect of the plot. Somewhat obviously no. You can't cut off 20% of the canvas width and keep the aspect of the remaining area the same. > I have tried to set the margins but I did not manage. If memory serves, 4.2 may not have supported 'set margin' in splots, yet. |

Hello, It seems that the computed margins in gnuplot 4.2 (or in gnuplot 4.4 if I add "Helvetica" 30 to the terminal options) do not allow the cbaxis to be completely legible. Note that I have prescribed a given (scientific) format to this axis. Without this scientific format, the values on the cbaxis fit on the final eps figure. Is there a work-around that would keep the font size used in the cbaxis as well as the aspect of the plot. I have tried to set the margins but I did not manage. Is there any important ordering of the commands? Thank you by advance for any hint, Cédric Following is a typical script: reset set term postscript eps color set output 'tmp.eps' unset surf; set view map; set palette defined ( 0 'blue', 250 'cyan', 500 'green',750 'orange', 1000 'red') set palette rgbformulae 22,13,-31 set pm3d set xlabel 'x' set ylabel 'y' set format cb "%-1.1e" # <= scientific format set cbtics 50 splot x*y |

Hello, I don't think using multiplot this way is an actual abuse, iirc I read something about this usage in the documentation. I am dealing with dozens of gnuplot files and so I have to stay with reusing code via the load command (and that mean using multiple plot commands). But anyhow, yes, in this way every single plot is treated independently, so their colour is reset too. But may question is still, if there's an option to set the linetype of contour lines explicitly -- like it is possible for other plot/splot content (lines/surfaces). I have already tried to insert other contour values to shift/increase the linetype of the desired contour line to a number with appropriate colour. But then I am struggling with extra, unnecessary visible contour lines. Maybe there's an option to turn specific linetypes/contour lines to transparent? Many thanks, Stephan |

plot nothing (0/0 = undefined) to store the value into a variable,
then use this variable for the title of the 2nd plot:
plot 'testbep.dat' using 1:(t=$2,0/0), \
'' using 1:2 with points pt 7 ps 1.7 title sprintf("BEP %01.2f",t)
the end_of_data "e" is only needed for inline data not
for data read from a file.

Hello Dear Gnuplot wizards!
I am quite new to this topic, but I am starting to like this software. I
have some graph in mind and need your help to vizualize it! My problem:
I would like to put a single point on the plot and to give it a special
title, so right no it works like:
plot 'testbep.dat' with points pt 7 ps 1.7 title sprintf("BEP %01.2f",0.63)
data file 'testbep.dat':
0.6285488958990536 0.6285488958990536
What I need is to take the number 0.63 directly from the data file, means
take the 0.6285488958990536, round it to 0.63 and put into title.
Any ideas, how to do it?
And maybe you can help me to solve the second problem.
What I actually would prefer, is to place both, the curve data and the point
data into one file.
This works:
######################
set xlabel "Recall"
set ylabel "Precision"
set xrange[0.0:1.0]
set yrange[0.0:1.0]
set key inside left bottom
plot "-" with linespoints notitle, "-" with points pt 7 ps 1.7 title "BEP
0.63"
########Data Part###########
0.10 0.8313492063492064
0.20 0.7976071784646062
0.30 0.7915549597855228
0.40 0.7928934010152284
0.50 0.7682878608145512
0.60 0.6384615384615384
0.70 0.5784858853721129
0.80 0.5454224107458466
0.90 0.5220599307333232
1 0.5
e
0.6285488958990536 0.6285488958990536
e
############################################
and generates a http://l3s.de/~zerr/example.pdf perfect picture
But whenever I put the data part into extra file it says "Bad datat on line
10" this is where the "e" is placed when I try to plot:
plot 'test.dat' with linespoints notitle, "-" with points pt 7 ps 1.7 title
"BEP 0.63"
Thank you very much in advance for you help!

Hello everyone, My rough setup is the following: unset surface set view map set multiplot set style data pm3d set pm3d ... splot DATA_A1, DATA_A2, ... unset pm3d set contour base set cntrparam levels discrete VAL_B ... splot DATA_B set cntrparam levels discrete VAL_C ... splot DATA_C unset multiplot This is working very fine to plot a map of data (DATA_Ax) and two contour overlays from different data (DATA_B, DATA_C). But it shows, that both single contour lines (VAL_B and VAL_C) were plotted in the same linetype (and color too). So my questions are: Is there a way to set explicitly the linetype of following contour plot lines? Or is it possible to set a linetype bias and increment for contour lines? My actual gnuplot file(s) (each splot in above example is a "load" of a generic gnuplot file) makes use of my own predefined linetypes. This works very well for choosing linetypes for surfaced plots (w/ "hidden3d offset ..."). I think I am looking for something similar for contour lines. I am using gnuplot 4.6 patchlevel 0 on arch linux. I would be very happy if someone of you could help me with this struggle. Many thanks to everyone, Stephan |

Everything worked great :) just had some glitches as i call gnuplot from C i use "this is the command so insidme i have to use ' ' " another thing what i need to do is set the value of ticks on top of them, is that possible? i have been looking around but haven't found suitable solution... I need to do that because my data are very different, there is y range from 0 to 25000 and more... -- View this message in context: http://old.nabble.com/gnuplot-tics-tp33900443p34016147.html Sent from the Gnuplot - User mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

Hi, I have current Cygwin and I build wx libraries in it. I build also wxpython also and matplotlib with wwagg backend, which works as expected from within Cygwin As Cygwin's gnuplot version does not offer interactive plot window, I was wondering what would be proper way to build gnuplot on Cygwin and take advantage of wx libraries Thanks in advance |

'help plot using xtic' says:
xticlabels(N) is shorthand for xticlabels(stringcolumn(N))
so you may use
plot 'data2.dat' using 3:xtic(stringcolumn(1)." ".stringcolumn(2)) t col
to have the ytics start at '0' you need to set yrange, not ytics:
set yrange [0:*]
column 3 has no header, you need to tell gnuplot to use
the header of column '2' instead:
plot 'data2.dat' using 3:xtic(stringcolumn(1)." ".stringcolumn(2)) t
columnheader(2)
