Hi,
I have a data file with several data sets (separated by double blank
lines). The number of data sets is unknown on beforehand. I would like
to create a separate plot of each of these (different color and title).
An example in the manual (p. 80) showed me how to get a separate color
for each data set:
plot "test.txt" using 6:5:(column(-2) + 1) with points linecolor
variable title sprintf("Iteration: %d", (column(-2) + 1))
But it seems like this is just one plot with one title - matching the
last data set. I have managed to get multiple plots using an iteration,
but then I have to specify the exact number of iterations:
plot for [i=0:1] "test.txt" index i using 6:5:(column(-2) + 1) with
points linecolor variable title sprintf("Iteration: %d", i + 1)
Is it possible to have separate plots per data set, without iterating
over the data before plotting and counting the number of data sets?

there are two things involved, tic interval and tic label format. with set format x "%b %Y" you manually set tic label format to "month year". but x tic interval is not changed. by default x tic interval is calculated by gnuplot automatically based on x data range. with automatic x tic interval and a short x range (like 1-2 months or less) you can get several xtics within one month, like 2012-12-01, 2012-12-20 or so. As right before you've set format x "%b %Y" you will see both tics displayed as "Dec 2012". This will not happen if xrange is long enough. You can plot some data several years long with you script, for example, by making two test data points like: 2010-01-01 1.1 2012-06-01 1.2 and check x tics and x tic labels on the resulting plot. As I devided it into 2 steps, step 1 takes 4s and step 2 takes 3s So the new algorithm will be the result of exacuting step 1 and then step 2, and it overall time will now be time to complete step 1 + time to complete step 2, in the example, 4+3=7. I split it into 2 steps (col 1 and 2 respectively), so the time for this columns should be added and compared with the 3rd col. And I want to stack the first 2 (so I can still see the time for each step) and this stacked column cluster it the third column. I couldn't find anthing about this. for the last two examples at http://gnuplot.sourceforge.net/demo/heatmaps.html, i think the "splot" command needs an argument of 1:2:3:4 which is a regular grid of parameter 3 and parameter 4 at 1:2, with no blank lines. other important instructions are: set pm3d ... set view ... set contour ... the examples are straightforward and understandable but very concise so be careful. I'd like to do pm3d splots of datafiles using three columns for x, y, z and a fourth column for the color at that point. Can gnuplot do that without first pre-processing the data into datablocks? Hi all.
Does anyone by a chance knows a less crude way to get a dataset plotted
as "filledcurves" with gradient fill, other than used by me?
My code and the plot are attached. With my code only one dataset is
possible obviously, and i would like to be able plot more than one.

Hey all, I'm trying to use iozone to perform some disk benchmarks on Ubuntu 11.10. The problem is that, although iozone has scripts to automatically generate plots in gnuplot, http://www.iozone.org/src/current/gnu3d.dem is for out-of-date gnuplot (to my knowledge). I haven't found a (working) solution/patch, although I found a number of non-working ones! I'm not sure what I need to do to gnu3d.dem to make it work with gnuplot 4.4 patchlevel 3 Any ideas? What did you expect to happen when you added "xticslabels(1)", other than what the documentation clearly says it does: put a tick label at every data point?
