Hi all, I have a frustrating bug where I can successfully set the following: set xdata time set timefmt "%Y/%m/%d" plot "some stuff" u 1:2 say. This works correctly. I then change the plot command to the following plot "some stuff" u 1:($$2/$$3) (I am using the "call" feature, i.e. -c argument to the command, therefore I need the double $ to avoid a clash with the single $ reference). This plots the y variable correctly, but breaks the time representation. Is it that there is a clash with the timefmt command? Do I need to change the "%" for something else? Solved!
Only I have to do is replace white space by - (hyphen) in the font name.
set title '{/Times-New-Roman=18 a}'
This was the same to use the "Times Roman" font on the postscript terminal.
(I found the "/Times-Roman=12" in the ps_guide.pdf.)

Hello
I would like to use Times New Roman font on the cairo
based terminals like wxt. How I can specified in the
enhanced text.
'{/Times New Roman a}'
does not work because of font name includes white space.
The fc-list says that Times New Roman is registered as Times New Roman
on the fontconfig system.
Of course, e. g.
set title 'a' font 'Times New Roman'
But I would like to use font specification in enhanced text.
Any suggestions?

Dear all,
I use gnuplot to show data that is piped into it from another script.
The data gets updated every few seconds.
Here is what I send to gnuplot:
set term x11 title 'No Name'
plot '-' with points pt 5 title ""
3872664887
3872719597
e
[some time later...]
replot
1094204
1094205
e
This worked well in versions up to 4.4, maybe 4.6, updating the plot
with every new set of data.
Now, using 5.0.3 I get an error:
gnuplot> 1094204
^
line 3: invalid command
gnuplot> 1094205
^
line 3: invalid command
gnuplot> e
^
line 3: invalid command
From reading recent commit messages and looking to the code, it seems
to be related to the "volatile" flag set for pipes:
https://github.com/gnuplot/gnuplot/blob/master/src/datafile.c#L1360 -
volatile_data = TRUE;
I found that removing this line makes my problem disappear - but I have
no idea what else gets broken when doing so.
Do you have any advice how to fix the problem?

Hello gnuplotters,
I encounter a weird curious issue when plotting 2D data from binary file.
I have two files, the second file containing 5 lines more. These 5 lines
represent a simple quadrangle cell. So the second file should plot one
more cell than the first one.
These two files are ascii and I use octave to get two binary files. The
command is :
splot 'b66.dat' binary record=(15,-1) format='%float' u 1:2:3 w l
The first data plots very fine. But the plot with the second file is not
clear.
I tried with Matlab as well, same result. I enclosed the binary and
ascii files, as well the octave script if you want to try.
Any hint?

That doesn't mean that you have a "problem with multiplot", though.
And indeed multiplot has nothing to do with it.
Removing all parts of your script that still leave the problem intact,
one arrives at something like this:
gnuplot> p x w p pt 09
^
';' expected
The problem is that you accidentally created an ill-formed octal number.
gnuplot's syntax is like C in many respects; up to and including
hexadecimal and octal integer constants. So lose the leading zeroes,
and things will work.

If you mean either of
set boxwidth 1.0 relative
set boxwidth 1.5
then neither will do - they make the bars expand
"inward" and overlap long before they get wide enough!
So the four issues I have remain:
1. How can I have the bars *wider* ...
2. ... so the entire label will always be visible
above the bar, centered around the bar's mid?
3. How can I don't have to do this:
set yrange [0.01:33] # hack not to show 0 as labels,
# also to have labels within border
# obviously ugly to have this hard coded
4. How can I set the colors of the labels to the
colors of the bars?

If I generate a plot I use the WXT Terminal for an immediate check if everything is plotted as desired. Besides that, I would like to the have the same plot also in PNG, PDF and SVG format. When I use in gnuplot 5 the widget at the top of the plot window to *manually* save the plots it seems that I get pretty "identical" PNG, PDF, SVG plots. However, I expected that with the following code the default settings are such that I get (most) identical plots, but obviously some adjustments are needed. For example, the font in PNG is larger than in WXT. reset set output "Plot.png" set term pngcairo enhanced size 742,525 plot sin(x) set output "Plot.pdf" set term pngcairo enhanced size 7.42cm,5.25cm # maybe needs adjustment? replot set output "Plot.svg" set term svg enhanced size 742,525 replot set term wxt enhanced size 742,525 replot Which parameters need to be considered and adjusted (the widget obviously does it) to always get the (most) identical look? size, font, fontsize, fontscale, linewidth, others... ? |

We plot a waterfall using the below pruned script.
Normally our data looks like:
t1,t2,t3,t4,t5,t6...
f1, v1, v2, v3, v4,v5, v6
f2, v1, v2, v3, v4, v5, v6
...
With the rows being frequency and the columns being timestamps and V
being the value plotted
This all works fine, except we have one dataset that has rows and
columns reversed so that it looks like:
f1, f2, f3, f4...
t1, v1, v2, v3, v4
t2, v1, v2, v3, v4
...
I cant figure out what I need to change in the script to get it to plot
correctly.

The answer is a bit complicated, which is unfortunate, but to be fair
the treatment of dashed lines is the greatest single point of difference
between version 4 and version 5.
Let's start with the simple answer.
It has been true all allong (both versions 4 and 5) that you can adjust
the spacing between dashes by using the "dashlength <multiplier>"
option to "set term".
So "set term epslatex dashlength 0.5" may be all you need.
For the more complicated answer it may be informative to look at
the discussion attached to Bug #1724
https://sourceforge.net/p/gnuplot/bugs/1724/[1]
These issues affected only the postscript terminals, but that includes
epslatex.
- The postscript behavior was tweaked for version 5.0.2
(released this week). This tweek may or may not affect what you
are doing.
- The original version 4 dashtypes are still there, but the exact
commands to select them depend on whether you are in
color or monochrome mode. This will probably work, but I'm
not 100% certain:
set term epslatex
unset mono
set for [N=1:10] linetype N lw 1.0 lc black dt N
... same plot commands as in version 4 ...

Hi, I've made some progress on my own question, but in the cairolatex terminal. I have been able to specify dashtypes for successive lines in the following manner: dt (16,4) dt (16,4,4,4) dt (16,4,4,4,4,4) These dashtypes do not produce as much white space as the defaults. With this finding, I have two questions: 1. Are there known bugs/lack of features with the epslatex terminal (with dashtypes specifically)? 2. Is there any documentation for the cairolatex terminal? I knew this was going to be embarrassing! Why did I not notice that the columns after the first were all the same (and were the data from the last column. Thanks very much, Ethan! Now I just need to figure out why I am pulling the wrong data out of the DB.Other than keeping it in an array, it's the same code I used to write it to a temp file, so I am guessing that I am simply over-writing the prior data with the "new" data as I load the data going backwards.
