Hi, it is pretty common to see such a graph in nonlinear optimization book: on xy plane, contour of objective function, and lines or curves of constraints. I tried to make contour using splot, but then I can not add 2d plots onto it. Any suggestions? --=20 Michael Chen |

I cannot figure out where the data file is being referenced from. I have tried C:\data.dat as well as other very specific locations but always get the file not found error when plotting. I have recently installed gnuplot 4.0 (gp400win32.zip) from the gnuplot homepage on a MS windows machine. I am not able to keep a plot window open when I run a file from the command line. I tried putting a pause -1 in the script, have tried a '-' as the last argument on the command line and '-persist' as the last argument on the command line. The script works because I am able to get the graph saved as a .pgn file. Any thoughts? Jon --------------------------------- How low will we go? Check out Yahoo! Hi all,
I'm writing a program which solves a system of m differential
equations in C(m is variable). In each step, I should draw m curses in
the same graphic. To realise the real-time update of the graphic, I
thought of use the FIFOs and plot the fifos in each step. The problem is
that I create m FIFOs (I've tried with a fifo and m+1 columns, that
didn't work),and the command gnuplot is:
plot "nameoffifo1" using 1:2 with linespoints,\
"nameoffifo2" using 1:2 with linespoints,\
...
"nameoffifom" using 1:2 with linespoints,\n
The program hangs when it try to write in the second fifo. I guess the
problem is that gnuplot take just the first line in a time, it reads
only the first fifo until the program finishes, so only the first fifo
can work, the others, when i do a fopen, there's a dead lock.
I would like to know if anyone has a solution for this. Thank you.

If your platform isn't Unix (or an emulation of it, e.g. Cygwin), then it'll end up elsewhere. |

To see what actually happened, plot this to the table terminal and observe the breaks in the sequence of points. The problem is that two data points matching the format string never follow each other directly, in your data file. In a nutshell: I don't think the scanf format string feature is a good idea to use for filtering your data. 'grep' exists --- use it. |

Hello, in my pm3d plots the white margins around the plot are too large, this wastes space in latex and does not look nice (caption of the figure is far below the graph). This problem seems to be terminal independent, occurs also with png. The result of the plot is here: http://root.dael.de/MAC.gplotPar20.png I have no idea how to change the margins. Sorry, it was not clear from my message. I did set the font properly as it is described in help. It just does not work. That seems to me a bug. No doubt I am able to set font for xtics or whatever. Well, in this case you might be aware of is how to change the font for
cbtics! I could not. Finally, I made them white and put labels instead.
Do you know a better trick?

Hi, Porbably this behaviour is due to the new installation. In order to chek that, try the folowing: Open a terminal window, and launch gnuplot. You should see the "standar gnuplot welcome" and this line: Terminal type set to 'x11' If you see =B4unknwon=B4 then you need to install some x11-dev packages. Breezy (Ubuntu 5.10) has a package named gnuplot-x11 that is needed in order to plot using the x11 terminal. Hi, I've just installed gnuplot following a recent installation of Kubuntu. However, whenever I try to run programs (written in C) which are meant to automatically provide a visual output using gnuplot, no graph appears - they worked fine in a previous installation of Debian Sarge and also work ok in Solaris. Also, whenever I type 'plot x' etc within gnuplot, no graph appears. What could the possible reasons for this be? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Benjamin |

Hello, plotting plot "Pen10-M-$0.out" using 1:2 "LCE,%lf,77,500,%lf,%lf" title "0" with lines works fine. Plotting plot "Pen10-M-$0.out" using 1:(column(2)) "LCE,%lf,77,500,%lf,%lf" title "0" with lines should produce the same result but the curve does not show up. Autoscale works but no plot appears. So it is not possible for me to plot: plot "Pen10-M-$0.out" using 1:(column(2)+column(3)) "LCE,%lf,77,500,%lf,%lf" title "0" with lines but it should. Did I miss something? Regards, Daniel. P.S. using gplot 4.1 |

Hello,
My datafile looks like this:
----snip----
0 100 100 100 - -
1 92 100 95 - -
5 149 77 - - -
10 86 82 71 113 79
20 85 64 - 88 73
30 84 61 - 84 70
50 106 55 37 82 58
100 77 13 - 99 25
----snip----
Now I want to make a plot containing 5 graphs, one for each column. I
tried this with:
set datafile missing "-"
plot "plot1.csv" using 1:2 title "MTT" with lp, \
"" using 1:3 title "OD" with lp, \
"" using 1:4 title "Cell Count" with lp, \
"" using 1:5 title "MTT with catalase" with lp, \
"" using 1:6 title "OD with catalase" with lp
but unfortunately the datapoints in the fourth column are not
connected, I suspect because of the missing ones in between. Is there
a way to get a continous graph?
And when I'm already asking: Is there some way to stretch the entire
plot so that the difference between 0 and 1 becomes more visible? I
tried logscale, but this doesn't work for x=0..
Thanks in advance,
--Nikolaus
