If what you're trying to do isn't something like plot 'data' using 1:($2-$3) then gnuplot can't do it (--> 'help using'). In that case, you have to do the work outside, in a data preconditioning program, which you can then use from inside gnuplot like this plot "< program data" See 'help datafile special' |

Hey All, I have got a data file with some values. Therfor i wanna subtract some pairs of values and then plot them. But how can i do this? As I know you can select values in a data file by the "using" command, but I think there is no possibility to calculate this values before i plot this? Any Idea? mfg Markus |

Since you didn't show that, we have to guess. So here's my guess: you didn't close the output file in gnuplot before trying to use it from the outside. You have to set output (note: no file name) before you use the file. |

---------------------------------------------------------------------
CONFERENCE OVERVIEW
---------------------------------------------------------------------
CISSE 2006 provides a virtual forum for presentation and discussion of the
state-of the-art research on computers, information and systems sciences
and engineering. CISSE 2006 is the second conference of the CISSE series of
e-conferences. CISSE 2005 was the World's first Engineering/Computing and
Systems Research E-Conference. CISSE 2005 was the first high-caliber
Research Conference in the world to be completely conducted online in
real-time via the internet.
The CISSE 2006 virtual conference will be conducted through the Internet
using web-conferencing tools, made available by the conference. Authors
will be presenting their PowerPoint, audio or video presentations using
web-conferencing tools without the need for travel. Conference sessions
will be broadcast to all the conference participants, where session
participants can interact with the presenter during the presentation and
(or) during the Q&A slot that follows the presentation. This international
conference will be held entirely on-line. The accepted and presented papers
will be made available after the conference both on a CD and as a book
publication.
CISSE's publisher for the book proceedings is Springer.
Conference participants - authors, presenters and attendees - only need an
internet connection and sound available on their computers in order to be
able to contribute and participate in this international ground-breaking
conference. The on-line structure of this high-quality event will allow
academic professionals and industry participants to contribute work and
attend world-class technical presentations based on rigorously refereed
submissions, live, without the need for investing significant travel funds
or time out of the office.
Potential non-author conference attendees who cannot make the on-line
conference dates are encouraged to register, as the entire joint
conferences will be archived for future viewing.
CISSE 2005 received 255 research paper submissions and the final program
included 140 accepted papers, from more than 45 countries. The concept and
format of CISSE 2005 were very exciting and ground-breaking. The PowerPoint
presentations, final paper manuscripts and time schedule for live
presentations over the web had been available for 3 weeks prior to the
start of the conference for all registrants, so they could choose the
presentations they want to attend and think about questions that they might
want to ask.
The live audio presentations were also recorded and were part of the
permanent CISSE archive, which also included all power point presentations
and papers.
The CISSE conference audio room provided superb audio even over low speed
internet connections, the ability to display PowerPoint presentations, and
cross-platform compatibility (the conferencing software runs on Windows,
Mac, and any other operating system that supports Java). In addition, the
conferencing system allowed for an unlimited number of participants, which
in turn granted us the opportunity to allow all CISSE participants to
attend all presentations, as opposed to limiting the number of available
seats for each session.
CISSE 2006 is composed of the following four conferences:
International Conference on Industrial Electronics, Technology & Automation

Learn how to use "pipes" in your scripting language of choise. Open one
to gnuplot, send it the commands (and optionally your data, too, see
"help data special" in gnuplot), harvest the generated graphics either
directly to stdout or to a file.

Hi
We are a group of student from Monash University South Africa. We are doing
a small project about getting log files from remote machines and come up
with stats from the logs. The machines are located in public places like
malls. Their job is to provide poeple with open source software . The publi=
c
come a burn cd's of the open software they want. In the machines there is a
log file, that records the time, date, and burnt software.
Our project is to get the log files from all the machines, put them in a
database. from the database come up with stats. In terms of what has been
burnt most, How many poeple use this type of software. We thought something
visible will be very powerful e.g a graphs
We are interested in using GNUplot to draw our stats graph to a webpage
using PHP and PERL, however we have no clue how the GNU plot works in terms
of what we want to do.
We have a machine that runs Ubuntu 5.10 and its also setup to run as a
server for both the database and the stats web page. Thats were our
development is going to be done from.
If you can give us some idea on how to go about using GNU plot.
-reading data from the database or .dat files to gnuplot
-where to put the files (.gp and .dat Files)

Well, then, since the trouble you have appears to be with that interface library, rather than with gnuplot itself, I'll have to ask you to bring this to the attention of whoever made that library. Or read the documentation of that library a bit more closely. |

Hi, I am using gnuplot version 4.0. I am accessing gnuplot functions in a C program by using an interface program gnuplot_i.c. I want to plot multiple curves in a single graph. And I want to put such multiple graphs on a single page and write the output to a png file. When I am plotting multiple equations (e.g. sin(x)) in a single graph and then putting such multiple graphs on a single page, it's working fine. But when I am plotting curves using gnuplot_plot_xy() in a single graph and then putting such multiple graphs on a single page, then there is an overlapping. i.e. The first graph is plotted correctly. When I am trying to plot the second graph, it is plotting the data for first graph, as well as the data for second graph. For third graph, it is plotting data for first + second + third. and so on. What I have tried is as follows: I am trying to plot 2 graphs on a single page. so I have specified the size of each graph as (0.5, 1). Then for each graph, I am changing the origin. (0, 0) (0.5, 0) Attached is the program I have tried (test_graph.c), along with the gnuplot_i files that i have used. But putting these multiple graphs in different files gives me the expected output. Is it some buffering problem ? Do I need to flush the data of graph1 and then plot graph2? Waiting for your reply.... Thanks & Regards, Aniket [ Please CC me as i am not subscribed to the list ] |

Is it possible to put a cvs code snapshot on gnuplot website on a daily basis? It would be great and it doesn't seem to be too hard to do it. I can't wait for SF to finish fixing. By combining the data into a single file outside gnuplot, before or while plotting them. On a Unix-ish box, something like this would work: plot "< paste foo1.dat foo2.dat" u 1:($4-$2) See "help datafile special" |

I am not sure if this is possible. After all, gnuplot is a plotting program and not a data- manipulation program. You might want to look into [Functions] and [Datafile manipulators]. Tammo |

Hello, If I have two datafiles, let's say "foo1.dat" and "foo2.dat", and I want to plot the difference between these two files in gnuplot, for example, I might want to plot column 2 in "foo2.dat" minus column 2 in "foo1.dat", how do I achieve this in gnuplot 4.0 ? I'm sorry if this is already written down somewhere in the helpfile or the demos, but I can't seem to find anything relevant to this question. Any help would be appreciated, Regards, Timo |

OMG. Now, who on earth ordered _that_? It was a mistake to do this this way, back when candlesticks were originally added to gnuplot. This absolutely should have been governed by 'set boxwidth'. Anyway: I've re-checked, and it seems you'll need to (wait to) upgrade to the next release (4.2), or take your chances with a development version (a.k.a. "4.1"). A "whiskerbars" options was added to the candlesticks style in the meantime. |
