First of all, thanks for the information. ros...@et... wrote: > On the "Gnuplot pages in French" section of page: > http://www.gnuplot.info/help.html Please note that the above is a secondary copy. The master copy (the one immediately editable) is http://gnuplot.sourceforge.net/help.html. So if you want to check back immediately, the sourceforge page is the one to look at. As to the proposed changes: I've edited them in. I'm not sure what's up with the links to freeduc and usherb.ca. At the time I'm typing this, freeduc replies with a HTTP 500, usherb.ca times out. |

Of course it doesn't. I'm somewhat at a loss how you arrived at the
idea it should, given that you already found out that

Failure to RTFM. "help introduction" would have explained that.

You can change it using 'cd', and check it using 'pwd'. If you load a script via the 'File' menu, gnuplot will 'cd' to its directory automatically. > or is there a way to provide a full pathname to the data file? Yes, and yes. I'm wondering how the latter can fail to be obvious: of course you can pass the full pathname as an argument. The only tricky business is that paths had better be typed using forward slashes: plot 'c:/foo/whatever/my.dat' because you have to use single quotes, or double up all backslashes: plot 'c:\foo\whatever\my.dat' plot "c:\\foo\\whatever\\my.dat" |

Hi,
I'd like to call wgnuplot from C#. First I made a file by using
"save" command. That file has some commands for wgnuplot.
Next I wrote the C# code as:
Process.Start("wgnuplot.exe", "load 'command.gp'");
But it doesn't show me anything.
Does anyone has idea?
As a reference, I could call wgnuplot by the code:
Process.Start("wgnuplot.exe");
I would like to let wgnuplot do the sequence of the command.
I asked this question to the gnuplot people, not .NET people (yet)
because I think the command of DOS window will work for
Process.Start() function of C#.
>From DOS window, if I type:
wgnuplot.exe, load 'command.gp'
but this also doesn't work. So I guess if I could know how to type in
DOS window to make wgnuplot do some commands, I also could call the
above C# command. If anyone has an advice, please let me know.
Thank you very much,
Koto

Im having 2 problems. First, when gnuplot starts (Windows), it comes up in Terminal font, and I have to change the font to Courier New so that I can read the screen. Is there some way to save this setting as the default? Second, im having trouble in the plot command with trying to figure out where the file is expected to be. I have tried my documents, the directory where the bin file is located, C:, others with no luck. Is there a way to determine where it expects to see the data files, or is there a way to provide a full pathname to the data file? Thanks, Ron |

However ... problem is, that i use it inside of an automated process: 1. export data from DB (something like: plot, x, y, value) 2. split data into files according to "plot" and make "isolines" (file format: x, y, value) 3. create plot files from a template: set palette set pm3d map set terminal png splot "@@FILENAME@@" 4. execute gnuplot for each plot file and generate png images If I understand it correctly, then my plot file template should look like this: set palette set pm3d map set terminal png set xrange [@@XMIN@@:@@XMAX@@] set yrange [@@YMIN@@:@@YMAX@@] splot "@@FILENAME@@" And I should replace the @@XMIN@@ ... @@YMAX@@ values according to the input data. That would mean, that export of data from DB is not sufficient and I would have to export also following table: (plot, xmin, xmax, ymin, ymax) and use that values in the template. Will this give me the result I want? Now I have to figure out, how to generate gnuplot files using the min-max table stored in a file. Replacing single filename was not a problem... Hi, I don't think you want to use set size square. If I've understood you correctly all you need to do is to make sure that your plot ranges are all the same. Go through your data and find the largest ranges in x, y and z and set these values for all plots using set xrange. Hope this helped, Gavin. > Hi, > > I am drawing several plots like this: > > set palette > set pm3d map > set size square > set terminal png > splot "plotXX.data" > > Where XX is sequence number. Hi, Thanks for your work with this very nice tool. Here I have checked some links, can you update your site or On the "Gnuplot pages in French" section of page: http://www.gnuplot.info/help.html the link to: Gnuplot, traceur et grapheur: tutorial et traduction de la documentation de gnuplot 3.7.1; http://logiciels-libres-cndp.ac-versailles.fr/gnuplot/ sould be http://logiciels-libres-cndp.ac-versailles.fr/article.php3?id_article=70 Moreover there is no documentation translation, so the link should be called: Gnuplot, traceur et grapheur: tutorial de gnuplot 3.7.1; the link to: Gnuplot, LYX et LATEX: une bonne introduction http://lea-linux.org/cached/index/Software-gnuplot3.html should be http://lea-linux.org/cached/index/Software-soft_texte-gnuplot3.html the link to: Du bon usage de gnuplot: une large introduction should be specified to: Du bon usage de gnuplot: une large introduction (gnuplot 3.6) the link to: Traceur des fonctions en C++ avec gnuplot: Premiers pas avec gnuplot et plus http://www.univ-pau.fr/Artouste/fr/composants/gnuplot/ManuelutilisateurGnuplot.htm is dead. I did not find where this page went. I guess it is to be removed. regards Frederic |

Then you shouldn't have used 'set size square'. That makes the shape of the graph area dependent on the ratio of axis ranges. You may want to use 'set lmargin' & friends instead, which fix the relation between the "paper" size and that of the graph. |

Hi, I am drawing several plots like this: set palette set pm3d map set size square set terminal png splot "plotXX.data" Where XX is sequence number. Output are png files. I would like to have the images of same size and to have the plots (map area) same size as well, with exact position inside the image? In other words, I would like to put the images into a sequence and create kind of animation. For that I need the map to of the same size and on the same position in each "animation frame". Not inside gnuplot. But external tools can help, if you're doing this on a sane platform. You'll have to write a little script (in awk, Perl sh or something like those, depending on your personal preferences) that does the extraction job, and prints the number to stdout: DP1=`your_tool your_file.dat` |

Hello, I am working on a scientific paper and I have started plotting my data using gnuplot. I have come to a point where I don't know how go on. Neither in your nor in other FAQs I found a clue to my problem: I want to plot different exponential decay-curves (from 1H-NMR-Measurements). The data curves start from different data points and decay nearly exponentially to zero. It is useful and common in this problem to normalize the curves to the first data point, i.e. to divide every y-value by the first y-value. By doing this, one gets exponential curves which start at y==1 and decay to y==0. This is helpful because only the shape of the decay-curve is interesting, not the absolute value. One simple solution would be to type "using $1:($2/DP1)" where DP1 is a variable formely defined as value of the first data point. Unfortunately this doesn't help me, since I have more than 300 files to plot and it has to be done in an automatic way. Is there a way to read a certain value out of a set of Data (e.g. column 1, row 1)? Is there a different way to normalize the curves to the first data point? Thank you in advance for your help. That strikes me as spectacularly silly on Illustrator's side. Helvetica is _the_ default fall-back font of the entire PostScript and Laser printing world, and Illustrator crashes on files just because the have the nerve to explicitly request it? Someone's gotta be kiddin' here. |

It works just fine --- it just doesn't do what you thought it would, because the documentation is somewhat unclear on this. Where it says: --- quote 'help datafile' --- Data separated by double blank records are treated as if they were in separate data files. --- end quote --- that "treated as if" doesn't extend to giving each sub-dataset its own automatic linetype increment, as actual separate files get it. You'll have to address files individually or use the 'palette' feature (version 4.0 and up) for that. |

Dear Valentina,
please try:
cd gnuplot-4.1.0 /* or whatever is it's name! */
touch configure.in
rm -f config.status config.log config.cache aclocal.m4
=2E/prepare
aclocal -I m4
autoconf
=2E/configure <your options>
If you're running SuSE and want a src.rpm for your convenience, just let me=

know, I could send you via email (~2 MByte)
Take care

I downloaded gnuplot 4.1 from the repository, but as soon as I run ./prepare I get mv Makefile.amt Makefile.am automake: configure.in: required file `../config.guess' not found automake: configure.in: required file `../config.sub' not found Some part of the preparation process failed. Is that a problem of my machine or a bug? Thanks Valentina |

The answer to your first question is to plot an arbitrary function outside of the range of the plot; i.e., splot -10 and then set zrange between 0 and 1 or whatever. The second question I'm not too sure about. In 2D plots you can do the following: set xzeroaxis lt -1 set yzeroaxis lt -1 unset border set xtics axis set ytics axis This gives you what I think you want, but it only works in 2D (I think) I don't know about 3D. > I want to create graphs for my homework assignment. > I have vectors in > component form (ex. <0,1,0>). Hi, I was looking at http://dynamicnetservices.com/~will/gnuplot/ <http://dynamicnetservices.com/%7Ewill/gnuplot/> which attempted to plot 3D images using gnuplot. Im trying to plot 3D images too but they're more of objects rather than shapes. I was wondering how do you plot hemispheres or half hemispheres. What Im really attempting to plot is an image which looks something like http://www.resa.net/nasa/images/io/io%20core.JPG <http://www.resa.net/nasa/images/io/io%20core.JPG> using gnuplot. Any ideas? Thanks for your help. Cheers Astan |

Hi, I want to create graphs for my homework assignment. I have vectors in component form (ex. <0,1,0>). I want to show 3D vectors by themselves, but I can't figure out how to do that. I tried looking at arrowstyle.dem, but I don't understand how it works. This is what I can do: gnuplot> set arrow from 0,0,0 to 1,0,0 gnuplot> splot x Now I can see the vector that I want, but the only way I can show it is by graphing an arbitrary function, which is not what I want. Also, the axes are shown at the sides of the graph instead of at the origin. My questions: 1) How can I show my vector(s) alone? 2) How do I make the axes show as the X-,Y-, and Z-axes (instead of showing at the edges of the graph)? Thanks, Michael |

Hello, I run with Windows XP SP2, I've installed the windows version og = Gnuplot, but the text in the windows commands line is unreadable : bad = policy, bad size; how can I modify that? I was looking for a = WGNUPLOT.INI file, but no one to find! Thanks for your help, Didier Eggerickx E-mail : did...@sk... |

Thank you for your reply. Can it be automatically done? Actually I generated the data file by running some clustering program on the raw data, so I don't know how many clusters there are in the data file if I don't open and inspect it. In the manual it says "Data separated by double blank records are treated as if they were in separate data files" , so I think it should be handled correctly. =20 Have anyone done this before? Hi, Try: plot 'your_data_file' index 0 u 1:3 with points 1, '' index 1 u 1:3 w points 2 and read more by typing 'help index' at gnuplot's prompt. Good luck!
