Hi, I have a problem with labelling my plots at an arbitrary position (set label "... %f" '???filename and column/line???' at ....) using values from a file. Searching in the gnuplot manual did not help unfortunately. A google-search did not do the job either. Perhaps I have to use the awk(?) or sed (?) command? Anyway, as the value I would like to be as label is not the only one in the line of my data file, perhaps awk will not work? Right now, my data file consists of two columns, from where I am plotting all except the last line (with the every command). The interesting number in the last line is the one in the second column which should be the label of the graph. I am pretty new to the unix/gnuplot area. That's why the online helping tools/manuals for awk/sed ... are a bit too short for me to understand without lots of examples. Additionally I would like to implement underneith the plot a few lines of text from another textfile like a caption, is this possible with gnuplot? Thanks a lot for your help and sorry if I am posting an already answered question, I could not find any related answer while searching in the forums archive. The scale of x is completely irrelevant anyway --- that of y only matters if you failed to provide realistic y errors. Difference of scales matters if you have more than one fitted parameter, and they're of vastly different magnitude. Scaling of x and y only matters as far as it causes parameter scales to differ --- but that can always be fixed in the model. |

That solved the problem -- thanks for the help. Before trying to use fit, I plotted the comma-seperated file and saw that it came out OK. I assumed that this meant that gnuplot would understand the data in its CSV form. Hi there. I just started to use Gnuplot. I read some tutorials and I understand a little how it works. But in real world it's more complicated. I want to plot some data gives by a machine. The data that I have has a format like this (5 columns separated by comma) , .5,-1.3016, 0, 0 , 1,-1.3006, 0, 0 , 1.5,-1.2996, 0, 0 , 2,-1.2986, 0, 0 , 2.5,-1.2976, 0, 0 , 3,-1.2966, 0, 0 , 3.5,-1.2956, 0, 0 , 4,-1.2946, 0, 0 , 4.5,-1.2936, 0, 0 the first column is empty and the second contains data like .5 it means 0.5. set datafile separator "," plot "CV.dat" index 2:3 but it gives me error How can I plot X=column 3 vs Y=column 4 ? I have a data file that has multiple columns of data, i.e. x avg_value max_value min_value. I want to plot just the max_value versus x, instead of avg_value vs x which is what happens when the plot <'file'> command is entered. What command should I use to do this. Thanks Forrest |

Hi Chris, Everytime you do a fit, a copy of what you see in your terminal is saved into the file "fit.log". There, you could see all the information provided during the fit procedure, errors included.Try "help fit" for additional information. I hope this helps. Hi, I'm currently a mac user and I tried to install GnuPlot for Mac Os X (I have the latest version which is 10.4.7 Tiger) but I just can't figure out how to use it. Where am I supposed to write the commands for GnuPlot? In Terminal? How do I open GnuPlot? Is it a common app. with a GUI? I have already installed Aquaterm and I'm having problems with X11 installation (the installer prompts a message saying a newer version of X11 is currently working, I think it's the SDK X11 but I'm not quite sure) and when I installed GnuPlot i got a message: "Could not find specified message for index 17" Please help me, -- Wascar Bocangel |

Please refer to the attached bug.zip and the readme inside. We notice that when plotting with the data starting at odd numbers (y.txt/y.dat) in a time series plot that the graph certainly isn't what we wanted. The plot created with the data starting at even numbers (x.txt/x.dat) in a time series plot is what we wanted. x.dat data starts at 0 while y.dat data starts at one and that is where we believe the problem might be, you should notice that the vertical lines in y.dat aren't at 3 and 4 like we programmed it to do. Is there any way to fix this so that the graph puts the x2tics where they are supposed to be and possibly puts the starting point of the graph at 1 like we wanted? ~Brian C. |

Patrick, You can use the environment variable GNUTERM to control which terminal is the default, or perhaps better place a file named .gnuplot in your home directory and stuff any commands (including set term aqua <options>) to be run when gnuplot starts. See 'help .gnuplot' and 'help environment', and note that Mac OS X behaves as generic Unix machines in these cases. /Per |
