I also noticed from the help menu that I need libgd to create png images. I tried installation of libgd, but I still get the same errors.

PNG images are created using libgd, with optional support for TrueType
 and Adobe Type 1 fonts via libfreetype. Version 1.8 or greater of libgd
 is required.

I however have a small conversion script, from postscript to png, which works perfectly. For the time bieng I will create my images in postscript and convert to png. But I would have liked to create the images directly to png.

[Gnuplot-info] inserting JPG image

Dear friends,
Is it possible to insert JPG image in gnuplot script itself. For example
when i am plotting X vs Y data set, I need to superimpose the geometry
figure (jpg of model). Write now I am making data plot in gnuplot and then
superimposing jpg of model in open-office.

I'm trying to produce png plots from and ascii meteogram file. I have
acquired a perl (meteo_plot.pl) program that reads the ascii file and
supposed to also create  .gp script to plot the output in png format.

However I get the following error message in line two of the .gp
script.I use gnuplot version 4, patch level 0. I have also attached the
perl program and the .gp script for your inspection.

In the cygwin case, the gnuplot is also distributed on the cygwin official site.
In the case, the inquiry for the application from the cygwin site is done on the cygwin ML not but the
application site.

I recommend you to ask the ubuntu site on this matter.

The gnuplot is automatically downloaded and installed through the service
provided by the ubuntu. I personally am not familiar with building a binary
version of any software, so I never tried that. If it can be built this way
to fix the problem, I will give it a try. But a direct link to the steps on
how to do that is preferred,

Are you using the gnuplot built by yourself or download from the distribution ?

If you build yourself, did you build with the GNU readline, or the BSD editline, or builtin readline
routine ?

If your gnuplot build with the readline or editline, try to build it with
./configure --with-readline=builtin.

If that makes editing correct, perhaps your the readline or the editline library has a problem. 

If you are using the gnuplot from the distribution, it is better ask at the forum or the ML on the
distribution.

neither. That's why I said it could be a system problem. But I don't know
how to deal with this in gnuplot. Taken an example similar, there could be
editing issues with vi editor. But they can be fixed using a configuration
file accompanying vi. I don't know whether there exists a similar setting to
gnuplot as well in order to customerize the input environment.

I am not a unix user but use the cygwin sometimes.
But I have not met such situation.

I'm using the rxvt on as a terminal and using gnuplot 4.5 (cvs) built by myself. 
The gnuplot binary is built myself.

I feel that the origin of your trouble does not lie on the gnuplot.
However, I do not have enough knowledge for unix so that there is no proof that my assumption is
right.  At least there is not editing problem on the cygwin (windows software but terminal interface
is almost the same as that of the linux. )

here asking for help. They could be because of my system setting, but let me
check with this forum first.

(1) the home/end/delete key does not work, they give 0F, 0H,3~,2~ for home,
end, delete, insert key respectively. My laptop is lenovo x61s, these keys
are distributed on a separate panel from the main keyboard. I don't know
whether this is the issue, if the case, how to deal with it.

(2) when the input line is too long, it will break to the next line. Then
the editing on the previous line would be a problem --- the cursor cannot
reach the above line.  This is very annoying! Is this a common problem, or
just me meet with this? Anybody has any idea towards this?

BTW, the version of gnuplot used is Version 4.2 patchlevel 2. The operation
system is Ubuntu 8.04.

plot "b.txt" u 1:2 w lp, "" u 1:2:3 w labels

Is it possible to specify somehow the alignment of the texts? E.g. to be
aligned above or under the coordinates read from file? If I use the command
written above, the text gets "scratched" by the plot. If texts were placed
higher, they wouldn't seem scratched.

which moves texts 100 units above. But the problem is that I'm using the
script for plotting many files and y-range of each varies. Thus I don't know

the version of gnuplot used is Version 4.2 patchlevel 2. The operation
system is Ubuntu 8.04 -- the Hardy Heron - released in April 2008.

Please describe the version of gnuplot (e.g 4.4.0) and the platform that you are using (e.g. windows
XP pro (vista, 7), cygwin, Mac OS 10.6, Ubuntu, Debian etc.) 


If you are using gnuplot for windows, which binary you are using, wgnuplot.exe or gnuplot.exe.

Without detailed information, nobody can reply to your inquiry.

I'd like to obtain with gnuplot a graph like this:

Now I obtain a contour graph with the following option:

I have two question:

[Gnuplot-info] Contour graph: how add points and clip

  Hi,

I'd like to obtain with gnuplot a graph like this:


using  a 3D dataset like that shown by the red points.


Now I obtain a contour graph with the following option:

/set pm3d interpolate 8,8
set dgrid3d 8,45,20
set palette maxcolors 100
set view map
splot "KH.dat" using 1:2:3 with pm3d;

I have two question:

let's have a datafile "a.txt":

1 10 100
2 15 150
3 30 300

Let's have a predefined value, say "X=2".

Let's plot the datafile by:

plot "a.txt" u 1:2 w lp, "" u 1:3 w lp

Is it possible (and if so, how?) to make gnuplot plot the y-value of the 2nd
column as text for (only) this preset X?

Let's have another datafile, "b.txt":

1 10 100
2 15 150 *
3 30 300

Is it possible (and if so, how?) to make gnuplot plot the y-value as text
(only) when the line of the datafile contains "*" at the last position (or
wherever on the line)?

[Gnuplot-info] Heavily pixelated font in wgnuplot

Im relatively new to gnuplot and havent used it for a while, but whn i stated
back using wgnuplot on win xp i have been getting heavily pixelated text in
the console (see pic). Ive updated to latest version, tried deleteing and
reinstalling, but problem still exists

Hi,

thanks , i use the terminal tikz and i use the command \input{mytexfile.tex} and i iadd the \usepackage{gnuplot-lua-tikz}
 and i found these two errors 

/usr/share/texmf/tex/latex/gnuplottex/gnuplottex.sty:0: Shell escape not enabled.

/usr/local/share/texmf/tex/latex/gnuplot/gnuplot-lua-tikz.sty:12:File `ifxetex.sty' not found. ^^M


i search for the file ifxetex.sty on the net and i put it the desired location but the error still exist.

The tikz terminal uses the lua terminal internal way.

I think that the main purpose of the lua generic terminal for users who would like to use their
original lua script and style.  If you can write or do not want to write your original lua script, use
of the tikz terminal may be a unique solution.

Commands
set terminal lua tikz
set terminal tikz

have the same meaning from the help


For the comparision tikz and the other latex related terminals (latex, pslatex),　I cannot commit it
because I am not a late user.

BTW, the pngcairo terminal is a good solution to generate png images if your gnuplot supports it.

Please type 
set term 

at the gnuplot prompt and see the list of supported terminal.

If your gnuplot supports the pngcairo terminal, please read the help of it by
help pngcairo

at the gnuplot prompt.

[Gnuplot-info] GNUplot issue with characters separators and output images

GNUPlot special characters and blank image

All,

I am trying to generate a GNUPlot graph for the first time and I am facing
the following issues:
1. I need to use 2 types of character separators: space and an invisible
character with HEX code "A0 31 30 A0".
If I try to run the following command, I don't know how to mention the above
HEX code and I get an error because of the {} characters:

gnuplot> set datafile separator {whitespace | "\t"}
                                ^
         invalid complex constant

The file that contains the sepcial characters is available enclosed.

2. Withtout this characters issue, the output displayed is OK, but if try to
generate an image it's output is always empty (0 bytes).

gnuplot> set output "test.png"

Could you please help me with the above commands so that I can successfully
generate my graph?
