you need a dummy plot to get the yrange first (unless
you set it by hand). then you set y2range using the internal
variables GPVAL_Y_MAX, GPVAL_DATA_Y_MAX, ...

an example:

the data file 'ts.dat' looks like this:

95 210 321 198 103

script for normalizing relative to the highest histogram bar:

set style data histogram
set style fill solid
set yrange [0:*]
set term push
set term dumb
plot for [COL=1:5] 'ts.dat' using COL notitle

[Gnuplot-info] make plot key an independent object in svg or output seperately

Hello!


Is it possible to make the plot-key be an independent object in a svg-file?
That  would  be  great  for  the  case when the plot needs to be adjusted (eg.
Fontsize increased). My svg-files from gnuplot always have  the  key  and  the
corresponding graph as a single line object. This causes the graph to be moved
as well when I need to increase the spacing between keys such  that  there  is
enough space for a bigger font.

Is  it  possible  to  separate  the  graph and ints key in the svg output with
inkscape?
Or can the key be exported into a separate svg-file?

Since there hasn't been any reply to my last post I'll try to make the problem
more clear:

A histogram can be plotted with absolut values on the y-axis or with  relative
(normalized) values on the y-axis.
I'm looking for a way to combine the two. I've problems though because the re-
plotting of the data to get the scales on the y2 axis yields normally a second
plot  that  is not incident with the first (see attached hist, green and red).
Since the shape of the histogram is the same this  looks  very  confusing  and
redundant.

Is there a way to
-  either  plot  a  y2-range with a functional dependence on the range gnuplot
chose for plotting on the y-axis?
- or is there a way to plot the same data again using the y2 axis  but  having
both plots coincide?

[Gnuplot-info] highlighted peaks in saved jpeg and gif files

  Dear gnuplot-users

I just installed gnuplot on linux-fedore core 13.
I have a problem while saving either by using :
set term jpeg / set output "file" / replot
set term gif / set output "file" / replot

the produced 2D simple plots have all peaks hidden behind highlights in 
the saved files,
this is not the case using set term post

Can you help me please ? I attach such a highlighted plot

  Hi

I am using the latest gnuplot 4.4 on windows and trying to use the
filledcurves option to fill the area between two curves given by a
data file. However I find that at each datapoint there is a thin
vertical line connecting the upper and lower curves. I see this in
both postscript through ghostview and pdf viewing with acrobat reader
9 although with wxt there appears to be a solid fill. It is especially
annoying when there are many datapoints since then the fill area
appears very nonuniform.

If I take the demo "fillbetween.dem" and produce ps output then I see
the same lines if you zoom in far enough on the last plot. However it
appears that printed ps output is solid at least with my printer. Is
this a problem with the polygon drawing in the gnuplot ps/pdf driver ?

I'd like to fit a curve for my data and displaying the equation for that
curve
in the graph itself. Is this possible, and how do I modify this script
to do this?

Also is my fitting using all the points, it seems a bit of the final graphs,
but maybe
that's the best it can do.

[Gnuplot-info] 4d data file

  I try plot a 4d data file (x,y,z,intensity) assigning the color on the 
basis of the intensity?

I see a similar example here:

and using my data file I modify the splot command:
splot 'data.txt' using 1:2:3:4 with pm3d title "4 data columns x/y/z/color"

But I have the following error message:

  Warning: Single isoline (scan) is not enough for a pm3d plot.
        Hint: Missing blank lines in the data file? See 'help pm3d' and FAQ

you plot the function against degree celsius. and you add a second
axis with degree fahrenheit.
for this purpose it is necessary to set the range for the first axis
and then set the according range for the second axis.

Is it possible with gnuplot to have two different xranges on for the same plot?
Eg. a function depending on a temperature  and  I  want  to  have  it  plotted
against  degrees  celcius  but  also  degrees farenheit for each shown celcius
value.
Would it also be possible to not use x2 for that but have both values (°C  and
°F) on the x1 axis?

If you can't make it work "normally" you can always double-plot it, one
colouring the lines, one drawing the fills.

Hello

If you get a pdf file from pdfcairo, you can convert it to an eps file through the ghostscript tools
as,

pdf2ps foo.pdf foo.ps
ps2epsi foo.ps foo.eps

I can get a transparent eps file. (Very big size!! because it consist of ascii data)

Transparency is supported by the limited terminals.
I do not know the postscript terminal supports it.

However at least the pdfcairo and svg  terminals supports the transparency for vector graphic
terminals.
(I have confirmed supports on the above two terminals using the demo "Tnrasparaent filled-curves" .)

Hello,
i want to plot some vectors from a file (i already figured out how to do
that) :)
My problem is: i only want to plot the first xxx lines (lets say 500). Is
there a gnuplot command, that makes you select the lines you want to plot?
(like using 1:3:4 for the columns)

[Gnuplot-info] Arrow heads do not point exactly to the point they have been directed to

Hi,

i am building plots with gnuplot 4.4.0 and use a lot of arrows to 
decorate and explain what is displayed on the plots.

however i faced to a problem that arrows with heads do not point 
directly to the point i tell it to.

for postscript or pdf terminal outputs arrow head go behind the point. 
you can see an example of what is happening in the electronic book 
"gnuplot in action", figure 6.2 at page 93, arrows directed to the graph 
area corners (to graph 0,0 and to graph 1,1) if you magnify the corners 
a little.

it is not very nice when it is necessary to have arrows pointing some 
exact position. and this "error" size depends on arrow head size.

for pdfcairo terminal output arrows do not have sharp edges, and that 
actually solved the problem for me because dull arrows which appears on 
that terminal are pointed exactly to a point where they have been set to.

also, for pdfcairo terminal, when i use headless arrows to plot vertical 
lines using "nohead" key:

set arrow 2 from X_VAL, graph 0 to X_VAL, graph 1 hohead lw 1.5 lt 1 lc 
rgb "black"

both line ends go beyond the graph area, and this can bee seen on a 
magnified plot.

is it possible to fix these things in some way other than adjusting 
arrow end positions by hands?

[Gnuplot-info] transparency in the eps format

      I try to use the gnuplot 4.4. to produce some figures with  
transparency. But it seems that the demo "Tnrasparaent filled-curves"  
in the following link
does not support "terminal postscript eps"

If I want to fill the area between the 2 curves, I already use 3 
arguments for using, and filledcu does not accept a fourth for the color 
palette. In there a workaround for the filledcu option and still use the 
following command?

lc palette z

You need to look at ps_symbols.ps.  If you have source, you can build it 
yourself via the Makefile in docs/psdoc.  Binary distributions are 
supposed to include it, too.

In there, you'll find the full selection of postscript point symbols, 
including opaque, white-filled ones.
