How about the case with a precompiled gnuplot? I have Fedora Core 5's gnuplot, which also can't size a png or make a gif. "yum update libgd" does not find anything. If I install "gd", will gnuplot 4.0 pick it up? > plot "../gkn2.run1.pd" binary record=90003 format="%float32" using 3:44 NO, forget it, it's not so easy... 'record' specifies the number of rows in your file, let's say it's '345'. the number of values per row is given by the highest position used in the 'using' specification - or given by 'format'. if your fortran records (=rows) contain 90000 words, then there are 90003 words in one row. and this '90003' needs to appear in the 'using' specification. (i have no idea how to write the '90003' into the 'format' specification) a simple workaround would be something like this: plot "../gkn2.run1.pd" binary record=345 format="%float32" using 3:($90003==0?$44:$44) -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/2D-plot-out-of-a-binary-file-tp15980891p16006933.html Sent from the Gnuplot - Bugs mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

plot "../gkn2.run1.pd" binary record=90003 format="%float32" using 3:44 the record length must be the number of float values per record plus 3 (i assume 90000+3 here) the first 2 integers and the last one you don't use anyway, so try to read them as float (i hope it works) maybe you need to specify the endianess: plot "../gkn2.run1.pd" binary record=90003 format="%float32" endian=big using 3:44 -- View this message in context: http://www.nabble.com/2D-plot-out-of-a-binary-file-tp15980891p16001853.html Sent from the Gnuplot - Bugs mailing list archive at Nabble.com. |

Hallo, I use gnuplot 4.2 patchlevel 0 I read in the gnuplot description under "34.1.2 Binary general": .. general binary is particularly useful for application programs using gnuplot and sending large amounts of data. I tried to do a 2D plot out of a 2-dimensional binary file with many columns, a result file of a fortran executable run. The kind of binary file (fortran unformatted data) in the diction of gunplot: binary general . The first 2 columns integer (Fortran: integer*4), from 3rd to more than 90000th column float (Fortran: real*4). Last column integer (Fortran internal regulation). All rows have got the same length. I tried plot "../gkn2.run1.pd" binary using 3:76727 t ' .. ' w l ls 1 and got: Read grid of zero width I tried plot "../gkn2.run1.pd" binary format="%*u%*u%f%f" using (a($1)):(b($2))\ t ' .. ' w l ls 1 to plot the 1st and 2nd float variable (real*4 in fortran) and got after long waiting: out of memory for expanding curve points I tried plot "../gkn2.run1.pd" binary format="%*u%*u%f%*76726f%f" using\ (a($1)):(b($2)) t ' .. ' w l ls 1 here I want to plot the 1st and the 76727th float value, which is not documented in gnuplot and got: Unrecognized binary format specification Isn't it at all possible to do non image 2D plots out of a binary file? I would very much appreciate to have this feature in gnuplot, since gnuplot can plot out of binary files. If You intent to develop the ability of gnuplot to read also this kind if binary data, You could send the patch to me and I could test it in the development version of gnuplot-4.3 or I could send a sample (fortran) binary file to You. Fortran binary files are still quite often in use. Regards Hermann Deppe |

I am using Version 4.2 patchlevel 0. I am running it on a solaris 10 sparc machine. When doing plot '-' .... gnuplot reads one character at the time. I understand that is necessary when reading from terminal for readline to work, but when reading from pipe or file it should not be necessary. And I see that if I do % gnuplot file it does it right. If I do % gnuplot <file or % cat file | gnuplot it reads one character at the time. For lots of input that takes a long time. My workaround is to write the output to temporary files and plot those. When doing a gnuplot> plot 'file' matrix using 1:($2+$3/10) gnuplot calls sigaction before and after every evaluation. This causes it to go much slower. My workaround is to do the calculation in my own program and not using the "using". -- Thorbjørn Willoch | Western Geco PDN Phone: +47-6678 8185 Fax: +47-6678 8500 | Schlumberger House,Solbråveien 23 email: wi...@os... | N-1383 Asker, NORWAY smail: WesternGeco, P.B. 234, N-1372 Asker, NORWAY |

Hi all, I noticed that with filledcurves on the postscript terminal the filled area can be quite different from what it's supposed to be, at least when viewed in gv. The outline of the area is drawn as a separate line which is in the right place. The line drawing code switches between relative and absolute coordinates to keep rounding errors down, but the PolyFill code does not. So I've attached a small patch that makes PolyFill generate the exact same sequence of lineto/rlineto as the line drawing code in PS_vector. Also, it's not obvious to me why filledcurves should draw a line around the area that it fills - can this line ever be made to have a different color, or is its only effect to contribute half a linewidth to the drawn area? If the line should be there, maybe it could be made to reuse the (r)lineto commands used for Polyfill? (In some cases this would substantially reduce the size of the output file.) Cheers, //Carl -- Carl Troein - car...@ed... http://carl.troein.com/ |
