Equalizer APO was working just a couple days ago and i used Configuration Editor to tweak response. i have used it several times since updating about three weeks ago.
Today Configuration Editor won't open, i click on Configuration Editor in the task bar, or Editor.exe in \Program Files\EqualizerAPO and nothing happens except the icon blinks and the wait circle appears for a couple seconds.
i'm using win7 with MalwareBytes and Avira, but i have excluded \Program Files\EqualizerAPO from both.
No changes have been made to any software in the last couple days to my knowledge.

Have you tried by creating an empty config.txt file ... IIRC, if you rename your config.txt a new empty file is created automatically when you start the Editor?

Doesn't change anything, the a config file isnt created when there isnt a config.txt and making my config.txt contain nothing still doesnt fix it crashing on startup.

Have you checked if there's something regarding this on system logs (Event Viewer in Computer management utility (compmgmt.exe or CompMgmtLauncher.exe (windows\system32 -folder))?
Sometimes re-installation of EqualizerAPO is the way to go.

This issue is caused by an interaction with my USB DAC.
If the DAC is OFF, Configuration Editor won't open, except for the first time after reinstalling Equalizer APO. If the DAC is ON, Configuration Editor opens normally.
I got myself a pair of JBL 305P monitors so i could have decent sound. When plugged into line out on my ASUS motherboard these revealed excessive noise, even when no sound was playing, so i got a KGUSS DAC. This device has an off/on switch. It identifies itself as an SPDIF device, even though it is connected through USB and plays with source set at 24/96. I have a cheap Berhinger DAC that identifies as a USB device, so i don't know what the issue with the KGUSS is or if it matters.

You can start up the Configurator? Usually the cause is that some antivirus/firewall app is blocking the access (reading and/or writing) to the Windows registry. Equalizer APO stores a few things there and the Configurator needs write access in order to reroute the audio stream through the Equalizer APO audio engine.
So try to make an exception in the antivirus/firewall for Equalizer APO (Or rather the Configurator and Configuration Editor but also the c:\program files\equalizerapo folder).
Also there could be some issue about a fault in writing to the Windows registry. The key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EqualizerAPO\Child APOs should contain subkeys.

The configurator will not open if the DAC is powered off.
It is not an issue after discovering the DAC interaction, i just have to
power the DAC ON, it is almost always ON anyway, and i rarely have cause to
adjust the configurator without audio playing.

You can start up the Configurator? Usually the cause is that some
antivirus/firewall app is blocking the access (reading and/or writing) to
the Windows registry. Equalizer APO stores a few things there and the
Configurator needs write access in order to reroute the audio stream through
the Equalizer APO audio engine.
So try to make an exception in the antivirus/firewall for Equalizer APO (Or
rather the Configurator and Configuration Editor but also the c:\program
files\equalizerapo folder).
Also there could be some issue about a fault in writing to the Windows
registry. The key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EqualizerAPO\Child APOs should
contain subkeys.
Well, it seems that the installation program (and Configurator for that matter) can't create the necessary subkeys in the Child APO key. Usually this is caused because the installation program doesn't have enough right. Are you starting it with administrator rights (right mouse click menu -> run as administrator)? Also, an antivirus/firewall app may prevent writing to the Windows registry.
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
Yeah I'm starting it with administration rights but it still doesn't work. I turned virus and threat protection of and my firewall. It already had administration rights.

That's unfortunate. So probably that isn't the main issue.
On this forum I found this post and some replies on it. Someone was able to restore things by uninstalling Equalizer APO, deleting left Equalizer APO registry keys, deleting c:\program files\equalizerapo folder and removing all audio device drivers (to let Windows install them at computer restart). All this because 1 device driver is getting Equalizer APO (The Configurator and installation app) into trouble. The reply by Judd Clark on our forum discussion does hint to that too. So the following is the most extensive procedure I can think off:
Uninstall Equalizer APO
Delete c:\program files\equalizerapo folder
Delete registry keys HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EqualizerAPO and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\EqualizerAPO
Reboot computer
Remove all audio device drivers
Reboot computer to install them again
Install Equalizer APO (by starting installation app under administrative rights)

I'm here to help so no problem. But I'm not very helpful as it is. And reading the forum it seems that the developer doesn't have a good answer too.
As it may be related to certain audio devices, do you have an external USB audio device like a DAC or gaming headset? Or Bluetooth headphones?
I'm looking into the programming code of Equalizer APO trying to understand why error message pops up. But I fail in understanding it. However, there may be a bypass. Before installing Equalizer APO you could create the registry keys yourself according to the attached image like so:
Add key EqualizerAPO in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EqualizerAPO
Wait a minute. These keys are created during installation when looking at your image of yesterday. So that makes the investigation of a problem audio device a bit more important.

Can you take a screen caprure showing the files in EqualizerAPO installation folder (where Editor.exe is located at).
Here it is.
Looks OK to me.
Have you tried with admin account (if separete)?

Uninstalling and reinstalling made it work again.
Thank you.
Same, Had to do reinstall. now its happening again.

Can someone help, every time that I try to open config or editor it doesn't open. I've tried everything and nothing has worked.
Or when I install and uninstall it, it doesn't show the audio devices that I need to download it on. It just asks do I want to reboot it or not.

When I go to, HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\EqualizerAPO\Child APOs there aren't any subkeys in Child APOs. What do I have to do?
So it doesn't look like the left part of the attached image?

If not, I guess it's doing (again) an uninstallation and then deleting the Equalizer APO keys in the Windows registry before installing it again. So:
Doing this right now, I'll let you know if it worked.
I don't know what I'm doing wrong.

Yeah I got nothing, this is all it does after I delete the registry keys. Sorry for wasting your time.
