About

Session is an end-to-end encrypted messenger that minimizes sensitive metadata, designed and built for people who want absolute privacy and freedom from any form of surveillance. Session accounts are completely anonymous. No phone number or email required. Session doesn’t collect data, so there’s nothing to leak. Send messages through our onion routing network and leave no trace. Session’s code has nothing to hide. Anyone can view, audit, and contribute. With no central point of failure, it’s harder to shut Session down. Talk to your friends or talk to the world. You decide. Closed groups let you talk to up to 20 friends at once, with the same encrypted protection as one-on-one chats. Got a bigger crowd? Use an open group to connect with as many people as you want. Sometimes, a text just isn’t enough. Voice messages let you send something a little more personal, so nothing gets lost in translation.

About

AWS Wickr is a secure, end-to-end encrypted messaging platform designed for enterprises and government agencies to facilitate confidential communication. It supports text, voice, video, file sharing, and screen sharing with robust data protection and compliance capabilities. AWS Wickr ensures messages are encrypted at rest and in transit, with content expiration and ephemeral messaging features to reduce data retention risks. The platform allows for seamless collaboration while maintaining strict security, privacy, and regulatory standards. It is widely used in industries requiring high levels of confidentiality, such as defense, healthcare, and financial services.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • I found session 2 years ago when it was just put out and was in love, no sign up or logs, top notch encryption and u can dump and create new accounts as quick and easy as pushing a button. Session is the future.
  • The range of features and the actual current demonstrated capabilities and omissions are grand. Open source is critically important and their protocol is based upon tried and true protocols from safe developers. It's a shame you can't trust their situation as an entity - as all of this can become irrelevant immediately in the blink of an eye under a number of plausible - likely, even - scenarios. This weakness must be addressed.
  • Free and open source. End-to-end encrypted messenger. Decentralized. Doesn't require phone number or email. No meta data tracking.
  • Decentralized. E2e encrypted. No email or number required. P2p v.soon. Faster than tor. Easy interface.

Cons

  • It was buggy, but they were working on it. I also noticed something, called sentinel? A file that someone was trying to send me, in the past I've ran into it and believe it's a form of spyware, probably just the person I was chatting with, but idk...
  • You won't find privacy from apps developed in Australia or by Australians. Period. This is very suspicious and what is secure today may be very quickly made insecure and revelatory retrospectively in one quick patch. Do not trust any company at the mercy of Australian lawmakers. Because even they have no say over the matter if push comes to shove.
  • Not really a con of the app but Session is not really popular.
  • Design is not so cool as compare to signal or others.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • Super secured app with end-to-end encryption, that even Wickr can't see my data. Because of the security, illegal folks started to abuse it. Now Amazon has put curb on the abuse and promoting as an enterprise grade product with AWS Support.
  • Wickr is an excellent way to get end to end encryption for communicating safely with business associates without worry of your conversations getting intercepted.
  • It's the best internal (inbound) communication tool for SMBs to collaboratively work and communicate using the unified software. The feature I'm using the most is its file transfer and video call. It helped me to stay connected while working remotely.
  • Wickr makes team communication more professional than other tools we tried. It helped every employee to stay on the same page for team collaboration. The file transfer, screen share and instant messaging works great.
  • Wickr application offers multi-platform support. It allows us to communicate and share files with project teams. The video calling quality is clean and works great on bad connections. Instant messaging and voice calling option.

Cons

  • Few integrations - I guess it will grow, now Amazon owns it.
  • Linking with associates can be cumbersome and retrieving past conversations is purposely impossible.
  • Quality of video conferencing is slightly on the lower side
  • Nothing so far we enjoyed Wickr software features.
  • It worked great for me. Nothing to share about cons.
