About

PhotoCraft is a free, open-source raster image editor for photographers, digital artists, designers, and other creative users. It provides layers, masks, adjustment layers, layer styles, text, vector tools, and brushes in a native desktop application, with a WebAssembly build that can be hosted separately. Users can make non-destructive edits with adjustment layers and live-preview filters, select subjects and objects on-device, and refine masks locally. The editor opens and saves layered PSD and PSB documents, supports smart objects and smart filters, and includes color-management tools for RGB, CMYK, Lab, and grayscale documents at 8-, 16-, and 32-bit depths. PhotoCraft is available for macOS, Windows, and Linux, and is distributed as free, open-source software.

About

Photopea is an advanced image editor, which can work with both raster and vector graphics. You can use it for simple tasks, such as resizing images, as well as complex tasks, such as designing webpages, creating illustrations, processing photographs and more. This website will teach you how to use Photopea step by step. We will start with basic tasks and gradually progress to more complex features. The chapters (on the left) have been organized, such that each chapter uses only the knowledge from previous chapters, so you can learn effectively and efficiently. Photopea can run on any device (desktop, laptop, tablet, phone or any other computer), but for the best comfort, we recommend having a big screen, a precise pointing device (a mouse or a stylus) and a keyboard.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • What I like most is that it feels familiar immediately. The layout, tools, shortcuts, layers, masks, adjustment layers, and PSD workflow are close enough to traditional professional image editors that there is almost no learning curve. The performance is another big plus. PhotoCraft is written natively in Rust and uses the GPU instead of wrapping everything in Electron, so the whole app feels much more lightweight than I expected.

Cons

  • The main downside is that it is still early alpha. There are still some tools, advanced typography features, generative AI capabilities, and plugin compatibility on the roadmap, so it is not a complete Photoshop replacement yet.

Pros & Cons from Real Users

Pros

  • It's completely free and has nearly all the features I need. It allows me to do both basic and advanced photo editing.
  • Super easy to use, easier than PhotoShop but just as powerful for what I need it to do. Has great pre-made templates and frames for social media posts for Facebook and Instagram. And it's FREE.

Cons

  • It's kind of inconvenient that I have to click the Start using Photopea button twice before the interface appears. Not sure if this happens to everyone or just me.
  • No cons on my end. I do not do super advanced graphics editing, but I think it can handle that too.
