Can I get a rundown on how the updates are going on Skyline support? I would love to have appletalk printing and wep, which I heard was going to be added in really soon, where does this stand.? Anyone out there running Timbuktu with these drivers, the TCP/IP scanner features of TB2 do not work at all under this card, anyone else having the same experiences? I can of course connect by IP or hostname, but none of my network machines show up in the scanner, in either direction. ------------------------------------------------------------- Scott Haneda Tel: 415.898.2602 http://www.newgeo.com Fax: 313.557.5052 sc...@ne... setup: Titanium Powerbook SMC wireless barricade router engenius card (as touted in http://www.wired.com/news/mac/0,2125,55742,00.html) Jaguar internet access with WEP disabled. when i select encryption, the pull down menu options on network configuration are: Airport Password 40 bit airport Password 128 bit with hex key convert text to hex key I choose "airport password 128 bit" and type in the #s i entered in the smc page. regardless if i enter them as numerals or with a $ before them, when i hit 'apply', the pull down menu jumps to 'with hex key' and translates it into a gobbledy gook of numbers and letters. and though the signal is great, internet does not work anymore. i do have MAC limiting on (had it on for disabled encryption, too.) when i try to reinstall, it says i cannot install the wireless preference pane. any ideas? thanks in advance for any advice! Sigh... Looks like the "AppleTalk is broken" bit in the readme was missed again. I'll try to get that fix in tonight or tomorrow. I just upgraded my Pismo PowerBook to Jaguar and reinstalled the latest version of WirelessDriver. I no longer see en1 under network interfaces and therefore I can't activate WirelessDriver under Jaguar. Any suggestions? Thanks, Jon Rosen |

Greetings. I just installed Jaguar on my 233 MHz Powerbook G3 Series (Wallstreet). When I am connected via a hardline (wired ethernet) I have full access to all network abilities. When I am connected with my Lucent Silver card (with the sourceforge driver), I can log on to the internet (browser and email app). However, my printer list only shows 3 printers instead of the 20 that should be there. All three printers happen to be Xerox printers. Also, when I try to connect to a server, I never get a response from the server ("an error has occured (-36)"). I don't know why it is only these processes that don't work, and why they don't work for my wireless card but do work for a hardline connection. I've tried both with Wireless Config starting up in with the computer startup and without - no difference. Below is the script obtained from the troubleshooting command in the Terminal: Last login: Tue Oct 29 16:38:18 on console Welcome to Darwin! /Users/papa/Desktop/Troubleshooting\ Info.command; exit [papa:~] papa% /Users/papa/Desktop/Troubleshooting\ Info.command; exit ### system info ProductName: Mac OS X ProductVersion: 10.2.1 BuildVersion: 6D52 Darwin papa.local. 6.1 Darwin Kernel Version 6.1: Fri Sep 6 23:24:34 PDT 2002; root:xnu/xnu-344.2.obj~2/RELEASE_PPC Power Macintosh powerpc ppc7400 ### wireless driver files installed drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 24 14:50 WirelessDriver.kext drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Jul 27 16:22 IOPCCardFamily.kext ls: /Library/PreferencePanes: No such file or directory ### wirelesscard info | | "VersionOneInfo" = ("Lucent Technologies","WaveLAN/IEEE","V$ | | "VersionOneInfo" = ("Lucent Technologies","WaveLAN/IEEE") | +-o pccard@13 <class IOPCIDevice> | | | "device_type" = <"pccard"> | | | "name" = <"pccard"> | +-o pccard@13,1 <class IOPCIDevice> | | "device_type" = <"pccard"> | | "name" = <"pccard"> | +-o pccard156,2@0,0 <class IOPCCard16Device> | | "IOName" = "pccard156,2" ### network info lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384 inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 gif0: flags=8010<POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST> mtu 1280 stf0: flags=0<> mtu 1280 en1: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet6 fe80::202:2dff:fe00:1b79%en1 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x4 inet 192.168.6.34 netmask 0xffff0000 broadcast 192.168.255.255 ether 00:02:2d:00:1b:79 media: <unknown type> (DS11 <full-duplex>) status: active supported media: none manual autoselect DS1 <half-duplex> DS1 <full-duplex> DS2 <half-duplex> DS2 <full-duplex> DS5 <half-duplex> DS5 <full-duplex> DS11 <half-duplex> DS11 <full-duplex> en0: flags=8822<BROADCAST,SMART,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 tunnel inet --> ether 00:05:02:83:b5:c7 media: autoselect (<unknown type>) supported media: none autoselect 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> 100baseTX <half-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex> ### wd command line tool status /Users/papa/Desktop/Troubleshooting Info.command: WirelessConfig: command not found logout [Process completed] ------------------------------------------------------------------ Mark Nandor Upper School Math and Science (614) 457 - 7883 (x313 Voicemail) The Wellington School (614) 442 - 3286 (fax) 3650 Reed Road na...@we... Hi: I am looking to buy a new or used Orinoco Siler or WaveLAN Silver PC card or any card that supports 40 bit encryption and that works with the Wireless driver. The reason I am seeking these cards is that I have the original Airport Base Station which only supports 40 bit and I don't have the money to upgrade to a base station that supports 128 bit. I have shopped around Vancouver at all the stores and perused the ads but nobody seems to have these cards in stock. Seems like everybody has gone to 128 bit for the many cards that are available. If anybody knows where I can buy these cards new or used in Vancouver, Canada or has one to sell, please reply this list or email me at rta...@te.... Mail order from the USA or elsewhere in Canada is also an option. Cheers! ...Roland |

Hiya - My card/driver have been working fine for weeks and then this morning seemed to choke and lose the signal (while I was FTPing with Transmit - which I've done plenty of times). I restarted to no avail - I then uninstalled everything and reinstalled the driver (twice). Still no signal when I enter in my ESSID. My router is fine - I put the wireless card into my WIN2K laptop and it works fine. Here's my troubleshooting info - Please send any suggestions my way. thanks for the development on this project - before today I had not a complaint in the world... -caryl ### system info ProductName: Mac OS X ProductVersion: 10.2.1 BuildVersion: 6D52 Darwin caryl-mac.local. 6.1 Darwin Kernel Version 6.1: Fri Sep 6 23:24:34 PDT 2002; root:xnu/xnu-344.2.obj~2/RELEASE_PPC Power Macintosh powerpc ppc750 ### wireless driver files installed drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 29 07:49 WirelessDriver.kext drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Jul 27 13:22 IOPCCardFamily.kext Path = "/System/Library/PreferencePanes/WirelessDriver PPane.prefPane"; ### wirelesscard info | | | "VersionOneInfo" = ("Lucent Technologies","WaveLAN/IEEE","V$ | | | "VersionOneInfo" = ("Lucent Technologies","WaveLAN/IEEE") | | +-o pccard156,2@0,0 <class IOPCCard16Device> | | | "IOName" = "pccard156,2" ### network info lo0: flags=8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384 inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 gif0: flags=8010<POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST> mtu 1280 stf0: flags=0<> mtu 1280 en3: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet6 fe80::202:2dff:fe60:1e7e%en3 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x4 inet 169.254.57.244 netmask 0xffff0000 broadcast 169.254.255.255 ether 00:02:2d:60:1e:7e media: <unknown type> (DS11 <full-duplex>) status: active supported media: none manual autoselect DS1 <half-duplex> DS1 <full-duplex> DS2 <half-duplex> DS2 <full-duplex> DS5 <half-duplex> DS5 <full-duplex> DS11 <half-duplex> DS11 <full-duplex> en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet6 fe80::250:e4ff:fe50:9f3f%en0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x5 ether 00:50:e4:50:9f:3f media: autoselect (none) status: inactive supported media: none autoselect 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> 100baseTX <half-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex> ### wd command line tool status /Volumes/WirelessDriver beta 5.1/Utilities/Troubleshooting Info.command: WirelessConfig: command not found |

I believe a lot of the problems people have been having with not having the interface show up are due to a version mismatch in the driver. Internally it's 1.0b4 but externally it's 1.0b5. If you go into the Info.plist file within the driver and change the CFBundleVersion to 1.0b4 from 1.0b5, things should work better. (I don't understand why it _does_ load for some people even with this problem). You can also try deleting the /System/Library/Extensions.mkext and /System/Library/Extensions.kextcache files and rebooting. |

I typically only have one or the other enabled in a given network configuration, but they do co-exist peacefully, even of they're both on. -- Peter On Monday, October 28, 2002, at 01:02 PM, rmi...@ma... wrote: > Can i use two wireless cards in my powerbook. or do I need to remove > the airport card before installing the new card? > > A big enough hammer can usually fix anything. |

Can i use two wireless cards in my powerbook. or do I need to remove the airport card before installing the new card? A big enough hammer can usually fix anything. |

Using a Skyline card, are we at Appletalk and WEP yet? One thing, Timbuktu has this panel called the TCP/IP scanner, and the machine using the wireless driver is blank in this panel, and on any machine, wired or wireless, the wireless laptop does not show up either, I of course can connect to it via IP or host name address, but it is not broadcasting. ------------------------------------------------------------- Scott Haneda Tel: 415.898.2602 http://www.newgeo.com Fax: 313.557.5052 sc...@ne... To Bruce Thomson and Y - Many thanks for your advice on the wireless driver. It is now working with a orinoco gold card as well as with the built in airport card. I will have to double-check if it works with the netgear card as well; (both belong to friends and I was trying to decide which one to purchase for myself) and then I can get one. I tried Bruce's solution (listed below) first, because it seemed easier and I am not so happy inside Terminal. With the card inserted, the second install attempt failed (not sure why) but then I just ran it again, which seemed to work, on the third try. I then ran Repair Permissions (they changed this in Jag from "Repair Privaleges"), re-booted, found the new en2 path, and ZAM! I was online, much better reception then the aircard. Why didn't they get that right? So - Many thanks, very appreciated, and best to all, Jason Danziger ...very happy, in berlin...* On Saturday, October 26, 2002, at 10:59 PM, Bruce Thomson wrote: > Should work fine with an Airport card installed. You will need to use Pacifist (available on Versiontracker) to extract the /System/Library/Extensions/IOPCCardFamily.kext files from a Jaguar install disk and replace your current kext with the one from the install disk. Alternatively you could delete the kext and do an easy update from the install disk and this should add the kext back, I am sure the former will work but the kext files must be owned by root.wheel and you will need to do this via the command line or logged in as root. The card does not appear to be supported, assuming you have installer the driver correctly. Do any other cards work with the driver? If they do the SL-2511CD+ is unsupportable with the current driver as the IOName matching info for that card is already in the driver. The easiest way to solve this problem is to re-configure your basestation using the Airport Admin Utility with the pppoe information and set it up to automatically connect to your ISP when it detects network activity. Set your powerbook to connect via Airport/TCP-IP/dhcp and you'll never have to manually connect again, just launch a browser/email etc and you will be connected.
