Send us a copy of the troubleshooting script. I use a Lucent WaveLAN Silver card myself sometimes and it works just fine. -Rob On Sunday, October 20, 2002, at 11:28 PM, Steve Carlsen wrote: > Anyone know of a MacOS X driver that works with Lucent Technologies PC > Cards, in a PowerBook G3? That's my fault... The installer for beta 5 put the preference pane into the wrong folder and now the system sees both the old and new versions. They should both work, but the newer one has a bit more functionality. Older version (correct location): /Library/PreferencePanes/WirelessConfig.ppane New version (wrong location): /System/Library/PreferencePanes/WirelessConfig.ppane You can remove or move them manually, if you like. I'll make sure the next installer (coming soon, maybe this weekend) both fixes this mess and puts it into the right spot. -Rob On Monday, October 21, 2002, at 05:21 AM, Michael Strutton wrote: > OS 10.2, on a Titanium with an Airport Card installed, and Orinoco > Silver. > > Installed beta 5, my system wouldn't see "en2" as an ethernet option. > Uninstalled and re-installed 3 times with no success. When trying to use a Lucent Silver (or Gold) card with a TiBook - which already *has* an apple card; the kernel does not seem to see/pick up the card in any way; nor show them in dmesg or ifconfig. Any suggestions as to what to try ? Or is there a fundamental reason why it would not work if there is already an apple card present ? Anyone know of a MacOS X driver that works with Lucent Technologies PC Cards, in a PowerBook G3? The latest sourceforge driver doesn't seem to recognize it. I was thinking it was very much like the Orinoco cards, but apparently not. |

OS 10.2, on a Titanium with an Airport Card installed, and Orinoco Silver. Installed beta 5, my system wouldn't see "en2" as an ethernet option. Uninstalled and re-installed 3 times with no success. Installed beta 4, then installed beta 5, after a reboot, everything works. Only problem, is I have 2 WirelessConfig icons in my system preferences. Should I do anything to about this? If so, what? thanks, -mike |

Hi, I would like to suggest the following minor change to the troubleshooting script. It will allow people to run the script from any directory. The way the script is currently, it must be run from the same directory the script is in, else the last command in the script 'WirelessConfig' will not be found. Here is the change : 1) Remove the 'export PATH....' line 2) change the 'WirelessConfig -status' to read : "`dirname \"$0\"`"/WirelessConfig -status Thanks. Max. |

Hello Oscar! Yes! Reinstalling the driver while the card was actually plugged in fixed it for me too! What a simple solution - the best kind :) I now have other problems with getting it to actually work with my AirPort base station, but that's the subject of another thread once I have exhausted all FAQ and other research suggestions :) Thanks for the help! Max. PS. I wonder if this solution might be added to the FAQ? Oscar F Hills, MD wrote: >I am new to this whole thing, and just got my 2511CD PLUS card yesterday. For some reason can't get this card to work. I can see that the computer recognizes the card as it shows that it's inserted at the top of my screen but I am unable to have the computer recognize it in any other way. In Jag when I look at the network page in the sys prefs, it doesn't show any other ports to use besides the iR, modem and ethernet. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong? I am new to this whole thing, and just got my 2511CD PLUS card yesterday. I had installed the driver on Friday before I got the card. I was in exactly the same boat as you with the same machine. I dumped those pref files and rebooted, to no avail (nor did I expect anything since I DID have panes, but no new network port) ... So, I reinstalled the drivers WITH THE CARD PLUGGED IN ... I was delighted to see the green triangle blinking when the machine came back up, and it is now working. Hi, I couldn't find any detailed info about this. I installed the b5 driver for Jaguar on a Pismo Powerbook running OS X 10.2.1. I have the Belkin F5D6020 card (about $50!) and was able to get it to be recognized by the Wireless Config app and preference, with decent signal strength on the meter, but I cannot get it to connect to my network either via DHCP or with manual configuation that is identical to my Airport card, which works fine. I've seen on this forum that some people have been able to get this card to work, but for me no joy. I tried to put a Netgear MA 401 into a PowerBook G3 OS 10.2.1. The driver does not recognize the card, troubleshooting script below. A couple of questions: If this is due to the fact that it is a newer MA401RA revision I understand I can possibly make it work by adding it to the info.plist file. Could someone give me instructions how to do this or send me such a modifie= d file? If not, should the card be removed from the =B3supported cards=B2 list, because all the newer Netgear MA 401 will have this issue? What cards do reliably work in real life with a PowerBook G3, OS 10.2.1? Thanks. ### system info ProductName: Mac OS X ProductVersion: 10.2.1 BuildVersion: 6D52 Darwin Computer.local. 6.1 Darwin Kernel Version 6.1: Fri Sep 6 23:24:34 PDT 2002; root:xnu/xnu-344.2.obj~2/RELEASE_PPC Power Macintosh powerpc ppc750 ### wireless driver files installed drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Oct 17 18:09 WirelessDriver.kext drwxr-xr-x 3 root wheel 102 Jul 27 13:22 IOPCCardFamily.kext ls: /Library/PreferencePanes: No such file or directory ### wirelesscard info | | "VersionOneInfo" =3D ("NETGEAR MA401RA Wireless PC","Card","I$ | | +-o pccardb,7300@0,0 <class IOPCCard16Device> | | "IOName" =3D "pccardb,7300" ### network info lo0: flags=3D8049<UP,LOOPBACK,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 16384 inet6 ::1 prefixlen 128 inet6 fe80::1%lo0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x1 inet 127.0.0.1 netmask 0xff000000 gif0: flags=3D8010<POINTOPOINT,MULTICAST> mtu 1280 stf0: flags=3D0<> mtu 1280 en0: flags=3D8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500 inet6 fe80::250:e4ff:fe16:1c0d%en0 prefixlen 64 scopeid 0x4 ether 00:50:e4:16:1c:0d media: autoselect (none) status: inactive supported media: none autoselect 10baseT/UTP <half-duplex> 10baseT/UTP <full-duplex> 100baseTX <half-duplex> 100baseTX <full-duplex> |

Just to be even more explicit, you cannot put *ANYTHING* other than an Airport card in an Airport slot in *ANY* Macintosh. It may have the form factor of a PC Card, but it isn't a PC Card slot. I ran across a post by an Apple engineer on some forum where someone was trying to get a non-Airport card running in his desktop G4 Airport slot, who freaked out, saying that the voltages were completely different and he was likely to ruin his motherboard. nigel |

To switch between the external card and the Airport when using MacStumbler of course =) Do I hear rumblings that this will no longer be necessary? Doesn't seem to be a problem. I'm a ham radio guy as well (VE7ICJ), so I remembered that as well. I've been testing PCCards and USB devices sitting within an inch of each other with no problems. Also, the output power is quite low ( < 100mW on most cards) on these cards and that probably helps in this situation. Things seem to be different with spread spectrum stuff. They usually have some pretty advanced rejection filters and, I suspect, some way of dumping unwanted RF to ground. -Rob On Friday, October 18, 2002, at 10:09 AM, David Ross wrote: > Wouldn't use both at once in such close proximity destroy one or both > of the receivers? I think this needs to be said and probably should be in the FAQ: You *cannot* replace the internal Airport card on a PowerBook or iBook with a PCCard. No go with an SMC2632W V.2 card (not to be confused with a 2632W without the V2). Once I updated the plist, got a panic every time. Toasty badness. Also, how is anyone getting it to work with Jag? On my system, in stock configuration it refuses to load even by "hand" with kextload, because the module version doesn't match the CFBundleVersion in the plist. |

Does anyone know if the current driver supports the EnGenius NL-2511CD PLUS EXT2 PC Card? I've looked on the MacWireless web site list and can't seem to find it. Netgate's(reseller) site points back to MacWirless for a Mac driver, but it's still not clear to me, if indeed it is supported. Thanks, Larry |

I have an Airport card in this machine, but because of the, er, "limited" range it provides I was hoping to make use of a Linksys PC card to improve reception. After installing the drivers, I have a new port in my network preferences labeled "USA19216P1" but it only displays options for a PPP connection. Furthermore, the WirelessConfig pane never becomes "active" (all of the options are ghosted.) Any help would be greatly appreciated since I have an old home and reception from this machine is difficult. (My wife's first generation iBook works like a champ, though!)
