At this point I've tried everything I can think of to get my EnGenius card to work. I've installed and reinstalled the drivers several times including installing the files manually. I did a clean installation of 10.2 and tried it on that. I've tested my pc card slot with a known good card (a sony memory stick adaptor) and have tried both an internal antenna card and an external antenna card with no luck. I've also tried installing on a Powerbook G4 800 with the same results. Never once have I seen the light turn on the card nor am I ever given an option in the network system preference to activate what would be en2 for me. Does anyone have any suggestions? At this point I'm considering returning the cards and living with my horrible airport range... Hi... I'm using a PowerBook G4 w/ 10.2.2 and an Orinoco Gold Card. Our corporate network uses WEP Key number 2 instead of 1. I am able to select 'key slot 2' from the Wireless Config control panel, but when i switch to network and back, the selection dissappears, and I am not able to connect to the network. The card will get its default address of 169.... instead. My experience with this scenerio is that this is what happens when encryption fails -- you are not given an IP. Any suggestions as to files to edit in order to get the WEP key in the right place? Thanks, John |

Oh and one more thing. Don't forget to disable the firewall on the PB. It is known that having Firewall enabled causes all kinds of problems on WLan networks. //Rob |

I don't think it is necessary to reinstall OS X 10.1 or even the Wireless driver. If the cards light is on then it is recognized and working properly. If it blinks it means it can't find a wireless network. In this case you have to try to reconfigure the settings. As I said in my previous post in OS X it might be necessary to disable all ports except the one you want to use. Best is to use the different locations. To check if you have a good connection to the WLan Open up System Preferences and click on the Wireless Prefpane and watch the Signal Strenght bar. Depending on how far you are from the base station it is either short (far away from base station) or long (close to base station) bar. The Network name should also be shown in the Wireless Prefpane if you can connect to the Wlan network. If everything is as should be than you have a problem with the how the Wlan is setup. It should have all web and password security turned off. And have a valid network name. You can also try using Manual settings and put an IP that you know works with the WLan Router. And enter a valid Netmask and Router address. You might use the iBook network settings as a good guideline. If the cards light is not blinking nor is it on then you I have no idea. The pccards number is supported by the driver. And is the same number as mine. //Rob |

I think your card works is recognized and works. What I think you have=20= to do is change the network settings for the card. To do that go into=20 the Apple menu and select Location and then Network Preferences... In the network prefernces click on the Location pull down menu and=20 select New Location... Name it Airport or wireless or whatever you like=20= to call it. Click ok. Next click on the Show pull down menu and select Network Port=20 Configuration. You should see three choices, Built-in Ethernet,=20 Ethernet Adaptor (en2) and Internal Modem. If you only see Built-In=20 Ethernet and Internal Modem click on New... select the Ethernet Adaptor=20= (en2) which is the wireless card if it recognized properly, If you wish=20= you can give it a name and click ok. Now uncheck all other ports except=20= the Ethernet Adaptor (en2). And click in the Show pull down menu and=20 select the Ethernet Adaptor (which should be the only choice in the=20 menu). Enter the settings for DHCP for your WLan for instance IP address=20 10.0.2.2, Mask 255.255.255.0 and router 10.0.2.1 (if you are using an=20 Airport Base Station that is otherwise you have to enter the setting=20 for you WLan). You should also enter your ISPs DNS server which is=20 maybe the only setting that is needed if the Airport network is=20 configured properly already. I would recommend you create more locations for all your network=20 settings (one for work, home on the road) if you are travelling alot,=20 each network setting can be switched easily in the Apple Menu Location=20= and are configured the same way as mentioned above. //Rob On s=F6ndag, nov 24, 2002, at 06:06 Europe/Stockholm, Steve Jaynes = wrote: > I CAN NOT make my Orinoco Silver Card work w/ 10.2.2! > > I've reinstalled, de-installed, manually checked for prefspanes=20 > locations, etc. I've tried all the stuff I've read about for the last=20= > two weeks worth of Mailing List postings. I have tried for three weeks to get WirelessDriver 1.0.0Beta4 to work with my G3 OS X 10.1.5 setup. It appears that everything is working up to the point where I open a browser and then I get the error message that the connection to the Internet cannot be made. I have attached your troubleshooting script in text format as an attachment to this message. I have an Orinoco Gateway SG 1000 which works fine with an Orinoco Gold card using MAC OS 9.1 with the software that came with the card. I am connecting using a cable modem an SB 4200 made by Motorola. I have researched the postings on your web site and tried various things that have born no results to reach an Internet url. Any help you can give me will be much appreciated. Thank you in advance! Larry Winkler |

When they were particularly inexpensive at Best Buy I purchased: Linksys Wireless Access Point Router (with 4 Port Switch) Model No: BEFW11S4 ver.2 Linksys Wireless PC Card Model No: WPC11 ver. 3 My home network consists of an aging 266 MHz PII, and a shiny new eMac. I have a connection to Time Warner Cable's RoadRunner service via a 3Com Cable Modem (which is neither Mo-ing or Dem-ing). For work I have a Powerbook 333 MHz G3 (bronze keyboard) with 128MB of ram. I had all 3 machines surfing the web in 30 minutes! I know it's off-topic but the Linksys router was a snap to setup and install (via the PeeCee of course). I was running 10.2.1 when I downloaded the Beta 5 Wireless driver. Installed it and it just worked! I'm very happy. My wireless network is wide open (no WEP). I updated to 10.2.2 and didn't have to change a thing. It just kept on going. (I did NOT update wirelessly.) Not too bad for less than $150 for both! (It really felt good to ignore that PC CD-Rom and instructions in the box!) Also, I've use the same card with my wife's PIII notebook running Win2000 so she can use her company's VPN from home. This made the "family decision" to purchase the card easy. I'm sending this message because when I was looking to buy, I scoured the archives trying to find out if this Linksys card would work or not (The table in the FAQ said yes BUT...). I found a few messages mentioning the Linksys card, but nothing definitive. I took the risk and purchased it anyway and for me, it all worked well. Thanks for the open-source driver! Regards, Chris |

Hello all, When I first installed the driver software, it was a just a hit and miss situation. After many tries it finally worked, and I was able to connect. The one thing that was missing was the "WirelessConfig" Pref Pane in the Systems Preferences. I deleted the "com.apple.systempreferences.plist" in the Users>>Library>>Preferences, restarted and "voila" there it was! Has anyone else successfully updated a G3 laptop to OS 10.2.2 and been able to run an Orinoco Gold wireless card? I tried the software on the wirelessdriver page but without success. The software update appears to have created a section in the system preferences entitled Other. Under that section is a Wirelessconfig file, but none of the data boxes are active. I can not type any information into the wireless network name etc. Anyone have any thoughts? Thanks Rick |
