This is not really a wireless driver question, but, to reply quickly, if your Airport basestation is connected to the Internet via modem, everything connected to it via wireless has a route to the Internet also. But, if you turn off the default route on the 2nd Powerbook, it should still be able to connect to anything on the local network, but won't be able to send or receive traffic from the Internet. Just clear the "Router" entry in the Network Preferences Panel. -- Dennis Fazio df...@ma... |

While this is not earth shattering news, I'd like to report WirelessDriver works perfectly with the recent 10.2.3 update. I'm using a Powerbook G4 (550 MHz) and an Orinco Silver card.. Enjoy, Bill |

For any one who's interested, I bought the EnGenius card from: http://www.stores.ebay.com/thebesthitechdealsonline/plistings/list/all/ dept0/index.html?col=2&dir=1 for an unbelievable $36 including shipping. Installed it in my TI PowerBook 400, and it works like a champ!!! |

I see to me having the same problem Ken and Tal have been having. The WirelessDriver.kext file is not being installed in /Library/Extensions/. Ken mentioned that he solved this problem by manually installing the WirelessDriver.kext file. I was wondering if anyone could help me to do that. If I had that file I could easily place it in the extensions folder, but I do not seem to be able to locate that file. If anyone can direct to me that file, email that file to me, or tell em how to get the installer to just install the file for me please respond. -thank you in advance gregg |

Machine is a 333 mhz Lombard, 10.2.2 + YDL 2.3, 512 MB RAM, 32 gig HD, Orinoco Gold card. i got everything installed correctly, punch my IP info into EN1, and tried to hook up to a D-Link DI-614+ wireless router, but nothing happens. Can't browse the net, can't browse the LAN. Basically, after I type the SSID name in to the pref pane and then ACCEPT, it spins the color wheel for a sec, then just says "No Signal". WEP is off so that isn't an issue. Console says 2002-12-19 10:02:55.825 System Preferences[367] Iterations: 1 Network Name: , successful: Y 2002-12-19 10:03:11.081 System Preferences[367] Path for prefs: /Users/anthony/Library/Preferences/ org.noncontiguous.WirelessDriver.plist Dec 19 10:03:19 Herbie mDNSResponder[252]: 8227: WARNING! It appears to say this everytime I try to log on via the pref pane. Does this have anything to do with not being able to hook up wirelessly to the router? Please help! Thanks, Anthony |

Just thought that I should let you know that I successfully installed the wireless driver and am now using it to surf the web from my couch. My setup is as follows: PowerBook G3 400 (Lombard original except for noted upgrades *) Mac OS X 10.2.2 512 MB RAM* 30 GB HD* Belkin Wireless Notebook Network Card F5D6020 Using 128 bit WEP encryption Connected to D-Link DI-614+ Wireless Network Router Can connect to all TCP/IP based services except for printer sharing! Also note, printer sharing via CUPS to printer on Win XP computer does work! Hi Tal, I had the same problem. What I fouind was that the WirelessDriver.kext file was NOT being installed in /Library/Extensions/. Once I manually did that and restarted it was all perfect. This may or may not be your problem, but it certainly mad my setup work after a half hour of frustration. (I didn't do a reinstall).; It's a problem either in a) the installer - which should put the .kext in the right place, or b) the documentation wchich should warn you and instruct you what to do. Hope this helps -- Regards Ken Simpson |

There are only two=20= system files installed by the installer anyway and the Sigmeter.app=20 program. All you have to do is remove the WirelessDriver PPane.prefPane=20= and WirelessDriver.kext file. The pref pane can be found in=20 /System/Library/PreferencePanes (or /Library/PreferencePanes) and the=20 WirelessDriver.kext file in /System/Library/Extensions/. Remove those=20 files and restart the computer and the driver is deinstalled. To get rid of System Preferences opening on startup open System=20 Preferences and look under Login Items if you have the System=20 Preferences in your list. Hello Everyone: I would appreciate any assistance in this matter. It seems my orinoco silver has died... well atleast partially...it was working fine in my lombard pb, when I put the 'book to sleep... woke up the book a few hours later and my wep no longer works... I can pull a signal from another BS, but when I try to connect to mine the lights go out and continue to flicker, like it is trying to initialize... restarted, zapped PRAM, etc... no avail... If I deselect WEP in wirelessconfig the card re-initializes... wierd no? BUT... I need WEP...so what is the sol'n...? Well here's hoping that someone has heard of this before... _C |

Greetings, My office recently switched from a wireless MAC address table security model to 64-bit WEP, and my WaveLAN Gold card isn't happy with that. (Known issue.) No one at the office with a PC has a Silver card to trade me, so I was getting ready to buy one... Then this morning, I saw a sweet Sony card -- which would look much better with my TiBook -- in the TidBITS Holiday Gift Guide. Sony VAIOR 2.4GHz Wireless LAN PC Card (PCWA-C150S) http://www.sonystyle.com/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/eCS/Store/en/-/USD/SY _DisplayProductInformation-Start;sid=oBnMC8ZPyurMCvu2QlnGAIlDlG4-O3XVO30 =?CatalogCategoryID=zeQKC0%2eNUB4AAADynLrA1ReJ&ProductID=FQQKC0%2eNA3AAA ADyNKnA1ReN&Dept=cpu (Sorry for the terrible link!) Has anyone tried this card with 64-bit WEP? Thanks in advance! Eric |

I got the MA401RA to work at last. You need to modify the /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext/Contents/Info.plist file so that the Linksys WPC11 section is now: <key>Linksys WPC11</key> <dict> <key>CFBundleIdentifier</key> <string>org.noncontiguous.WirelessDriver</string> <key>IOClass</key> <string>org_noncontiguous_WirelessDriver</string> <key>IOProbeScore</key> <integer>4096</integer> <key>IOProviderClass</key> <string>IOPCCard16Device</string> <key>VersionOneInfo</key> <array> <string>NETGEAR MA401RA Wireless PC</string> <string>Card</string> <string>ISL37300P</string> <string>Eval-RevA</string> </array> </dict> and restart. You see root access to modify the file. Obviously this will disable the Linksys card, but I don't have one so it's alright :) |

I am having a hard time setting up WEP. I am running os 10.2.2 and using a lucent orinoco gold card. How do I determine and set my WEP key? How do I get the wireless driver prefs to keep that key so that I don't have to enter it in every time I start up? Basically I want to lock down my connection but all my attempts to use WEP ended in failure. If someone could point me to a guide to getting WEP set up or could provide that information I would be very grateful. Thanks |

Be sure you check your WEP settings. In fact, in order to make sure it works (and it should, as long as the MS AP supports 802.11b _standards_), I'd turn off WEP, MAC address filtering - ensure it's wide open, then turn things back on, until it breaks. As always, simpler is better. On Tuesday, December 10, 2002, at 03:02 PM, <reg...@mi...> wrote: > Hello all. I have a Proxim wireless PC card I'm using with a Farallon carrier but I can't get it to show up in the Network Prefs. The Wireless prefs are also greyed out. I've gone through the FAQ and tried some of the suggestions others have had with various cards, but nothing works. One of the suggestions said to uninstall the software, remove the card and then run the separate package installers. When I tried this, the ConfigApps and PrefsPane packages installed, but the Wireless package would not install. The message said: "you cannot install the software on this disk. (null)". This of course refers the drive I have on this computer a beige G3 desktop. Does anyone have any tips? Or should I just get another card? Thanks |
