This is a known issue. Somewhere in the docs it says something like "If you remove and reinsert the card, it will cause a kernel panic. Don't do this." You can put your laptop to sleep, remove the card, transport it to the new location, reinsert the card, and wake it up. I can't remember, and am unwilling to experiment at the moment - but I think (I THINK!) you can use the PCCard icon next to the clock to "power down" the card. After you've powered it down, I don't think you'll get a kernel panic if you reinsert it. But you might. Hi Wireless Driver enthusiasts: The Dell TrueMobile 1150 series PC card works under OSX 10.2.3 on my Powerbook G3 250, and acts like an Orinoco Gold: that is, it works fine under 128-bit WEP or no encryption but does not seem to work with 64-bit WEP. (I have a D-Link DI-614+ Wireless Router.) But I do get a kernel panic if I remove and reinsert the card (frown.) Any ideas why this is happening, and how I can fix or workaround it? I'm running the latest version of the driver (version 1.0.0b5). TIA for any reply. The Dell TrueMobile card seems to be OEM manufactured for Dell by Agere Systems. Note that there's no MC connector on this Dell card for an external antenna. Cheers, -Peter |

Create a new Location in network control panel called Airport and enter your home config in the network control panel and save. Then create a new Location called Windows WiFI or whatever you want and put in the new network settings and save. Now under the new Apple Menu you have an option called Location. To switch just select a new location and you are surfing. :) You can create as many new locations as you want and name them what you want, you can also select which port (airport, ethernet, modem) should be used on what location, and you can even create a No Network location and disable all network ports all together. That is what I have done when I am on the road. :) //Rob -- To be is to do. - Socrates To do is to be. - Sartre Do be do be do. - Sinatra |

I was also able to "hack" a friends Windows computer while sitting at his dining room table. But to do that I had to change my config in the preferences pane and then change it back when I got home. After installing Wireless Driver Beta 5_1 twice, I am still not seeing EN1, EN2 or EN anything in my Network Preferences. I am using a Linksys WPC11 card [supported] and a legacy Apple Airport network w/o encryption that works fine with airport cards in iBooks. If I understand a suggestion from a Bulletin Board posting, I have checked for a driver file in System/Library/Extensions after installation and see nothing there. I cannot download the diagnostic script (being informed by my browser there is no such file on the server when I try the link from FAQ). What do you suggest? |

I was having the same "no en1 or en2" problem. I thought It was driver related or some other issue until I just did the most obvious thing, re-installed the WirelessDriver software. Make sure to read the FAQ about proper removal of the existing wirelessdriver software, It sounds like having an existing version while performing a re-install rarely ends in success. But I can say that after two weeks of trying to figure out why my PCMCIA card (WavLan Silver) was not getting power or showing up in as en1, After a removal and re-install everything appears to be working properly!! > I have a Wallstreet running Jaguar. I am trying to configure a WavLan Silver PCMCIA card for my PB G3 (Pismo) using OS 10.2.3 and the wirelessdriver. So far I cannot get the card to draw power (no lights on) or show up in the network configure settings (no en1 or en2) , which makes me ask a stupid question. Is the wirelessdriver the ONLY driver I should need to use a supported card (I bought this card because it seems to be one of the better one on the supported list) or due I need a PCMCIA driver as well? The card came with zero support or documentation (what does one expect for $50). When I plug it in, it shows up in the menu bar, but that is the only place I see any mention of it. I have searched for a driver for the card but have yet to find one. www.interactivehank.com is now open for business. It ain=B9t all there yet, but then again it may never be. |

I upgrade the broonze keyboard G3PB to 10.2.3 this weekend 512K ram lots of room on the HD 10.2.3 works fine on ethernet. I download the driver (skyline 11mbs card from farallon) and install it. Works fine up till 11:30 pm last night and then just decides to stop talking to the router. Airport connection and signal strength are fine but no internet! I reinstall the driver, jack around with ALL the setting... nothing. Loks of signal, no thru put. about 3:00 am, I reboot into 9.2 and leave the machine (my wifes PB) and go to bed. Still toast this morning. I come home at 5:00 pm reboot into 10 anf the damn thing is working now!!! Does anyone know what gives and how I avoid this issue in the future. I am very glad to have found the wireless driver open source software you are administering and I hope it will work for me. My objective is to use a WavLAN Silver PCMCIA card on my Powerbook G3 with hotspots in the area (I d= o not have a wireless router set-up yet) I run OS X 10.2.3 on a Powerbook G3 Pismo When I tried to invoke the terminal commands suggested in the FAQ, this is the response I got: [Henry-Clines-Computer:~] henrycline% sudo kmodstat -n com.apple.iokit.IOPCCardFamily sudo: kmodstat: command not found [Henry-Clines-Computer:~] henrycline% sudo kmodstat -n org.noncontiguous.WirelessDriver sudo: kmodstat: command not found I have installed the wireless driver from the most recent download: You are requesting file: /wirelessdriver/WirelessDriverBeta5_1.dmg.sit When I insert the PCMCIA card it comes up on my menu bar with three lines: Lucent Tech (grayed) WavLAN IEEE (grayed) Power Off card (not grayed) When I open my Network set-up, there are no alternative Ethernet adapter options such as (en1 or en2) in the drop down menu. The WirelessDriver Config appears in my system preferences /other, but when I select it there are no available options ot input (they are all grayed) I assume this is because Ihave yet to be able to detect my PCMCIA card. I think that is all the info I have available. If you have suggestions on where to start troubleshooting, I would greatly appreciate the help. (The obvious question I must ask, is must there be an existing wireless signal available to even start setting the card and the driver?) Henry www.interactivehank.com is now open for business. I'm mainly a Windows PC user so am getting a little lost here. I've got a silver Lucent WaveLAN card and the wireless driver works great however I'm experiencing a small problem : (System : OS10.1.5, G4 Titanium 550mhz) I have to manually enable the wireless card to connect to my wireless network. Using the 'wirelessconfig' in the System Preferences dialog I can connect to the wireless network when I click ' apply now'. After a few seconds I get an IP from my DHCP server via my AP (a D-LINK 950). I realise that The driver does not and will not automatically connect to a closed and/or WEP encrypted network. (as per the FAQ) however , for now, my network isn't WEP encrypted. I've added the WirelessConfig preference pane into my log-in items but only get a "blank" System Preferences when I log-in (that is : nothing shows only the menu at the top of the screen). Am I perhaps adding the wrong application to my log-in startup items ? I'm using : Macintosh HD:Applications:WirelessDriver PPame.prefpane What I'm trying to achieve is a restart and log-in that will activate the wireless connection without having to go to the System Preferences everytime I reboot. Suggestions appreciated. regards Peter Fitzpatrick |

I have configured my powerbook 5300 (9.1) as an LPR print spooler for my wireless PBG3 Wallstreet using the Open Source driver. The software I used is called print66 and is basically a daemen that take input via the wireless subnet, and then sends is via localtalk to my personal laserwriter 320. I am using the orinoco drivers and a Wavelan gold card on the PB5300. It isn't as easy to get going as support from this driver for Appletalk printing over wireless, but I am starting to get the feeling that this driver might be neglected due to more profitable ventures for the developers (who can blame them?). |
