I inserted my Orinoco Silver card, and it was recognized by OS X 10.2, and installed its own "Lucent Technologies" menu. I installed the WirelessDrive= r package, and restarted. The faq says "select the EN1 interface as the activ= e network setting," but there is no EN1 interface, only AirPort, Infrared, an= d internal modem. What should I do? I've just received a Buffalo AirStation 54/11 Card as part of their Router/Card bundle. It was sold as Mac compatible. Unfortunately there are no Mac drivers supplied with the card and, despite trying, I can't get any of the available drivers to work - this Wireless Driver included. I was hoping that someone could either help me get the existing driver to work or advise as to whether it's worth waiting for an update. I use a PB G3/300 Wallstreet running OS 10.2.3 Thanks for any help you may have, Eliot. |

Not to take any business away for IOExperts but.... OS 9.1 sees your Orinoco card just fine. All you need to do is install the Apple Airport software with the card in the slot. The Airport software in 9.x will treat it just like an Airport Card and you will get all the functionality. I know because I have the Orinoco Silver card myself. Lucent (the actual maker of the card) does have software available for OS 9 and below, but don't install it, it is just more hassle than it is worth. Again, the Apple Airport software will treat your card as if it is an Airport Card. You can get the software from your original install disks or download it from Apple. http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=120120&SaveKCWindowURL=http%3A%2F%2Fkbase.info.apple.com%2Fcgi-bin%2FWebObjects%2Fkbase.woa%2Fwa%2FSaveKCToHomePage&searchMode=Expert&kbhost=kbase.info.apple.com&showButton=false&randomValue=100&showSurvey=false&sessionID=anonymous|162401937 Best of luck, Brian At 12:59 PM 1/20/03 -0500, Dave Koziol wrote: >On Monday, January 20, 2003, at 08:50 AM, Bent Sorensen wrote: > >>I did not manage to find a new driver for my orinoco silver card. Hi, I've been through months of other 'no en1' postings trying everything that I could before posting here, but I can't get anything besides ir, modem and built in ethernet to show up in net prefs. My Netgear MA401RA shows up in the menubar and in the troubleshooting script, and it works on my uncle's thinkpad. I have uninstalled, checked the sys/lib/ext and prefpanes and the items were gone, then i reinstalled and rebooted, no en1 (but WirelessDriver.kext is in System/Library/Extensions and WirelessDriver PPane.prefPane is in System/Library/PreferencePanes), reinstalled and rebooted again, still no en1. I manually loaded with kextload System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext in Terminal, and it loads, but still no en1 in net prefs. The prefpane is in the system prefs, but everything is greyed out. I am slower than most but your driver for MAC OS 10.1.5 works beautifully now. I have an RG1000 Orinoco Gateway and an Orinoco Gold card which worked fine in MAC OS 9.1 with encryption on. Tonight I turned encryption off after reading that the RG1000 only runs 64bit encryption while the gold card goes at 128bit. No wonder I was getting such a strong signal with no Internet connection. Anyway, Thank you for producing a driver that works and if anyone else is as dense as I am, perhaps this information will help. Keep up the good work! Thanks Again, Larry Winkler |

Hi I am new to all this so please be kind in your replies. I just bought a Compaq wireless card. (HNW-100) The IOXpert driver works with my card but I cannot justify adding another $20 to the cost of the card to make it work. I've been trying to install the beta 5 driver on my Wallstreet running 10.2.3 using an Orinoco Silver, but have been having the same issues as a bunch of you, no eth0 etc. appearing in the network pane. Am I correct in understanding that after installing, launching the network pane should automatically ask you to create a new device? Mine doesn't All my software seems to have been put in the right place, but all my network pane shows is Built-in Ethernet. Should I install the software with the card plugged-in? Not plugged-in? Also, should the lights on the card come on at all, even if the software still doesn't show eth0 etc.? In addition, I tried installing the Orinoco software for OS9 and it says that the card is not available or the driver is not installed, however, both are. Hmmmmmmmmmmm Bad card? |

Besides selecting the "en2" adaptor Network panel, are you clicking on the Wireless config panel and clicking "apply now". Make sure the settings are correct there, as well and that Wep encryption is off. I'm, running OSX 10.2.3 on G4 titanium and G3 Bronze with Orinico gold and silvers without any problem. When I switch from my ethernet set to external card I have to click the apply button on the wireless config panel. Make your networks name is correct. - Joe |

Dear wirelessdriver-support. I have a Orinoco silver PCA card which I use with my Powerbook G3 (400Mz) and an airportstation. When I want to shut down the machine (I use OS 9.1) I can not. I have to shoot it down by pressing the ctrl + apple keys and the power key. I think I might have a bad driver for the PCAcard which I have downloaded from the internet. My old driver got infected at some point. Can you help me get a new driver or should I make some alterations in the control panel. I can't find a download place anymore. I've experienced almost the same problem. What made it more troubling for me, however, was that for a short time, I was able to connect with the card. It was wonderful! So much better than the poor reception I'd gotten used to. But when things started getting wonky, I reinstalled, ran the troubleshooting script and tried to get things started again. Somehow or another, this resulted in a situation that wasn't good at all. I'll spare you the details: Suffice it to say I had to back up my data by booting into FireWire disc mode, and then reinstall the system. While this may not be directly attributable to the driver, the proximity of the events has made me nervous. So, until there's a more stable version of the driver available (read: not a beta) I'm going to suck it up and deal with the poor reception of the TiBook. For you amazing developers out there: What's the timeline for future editions? Will you be moving beyond the beta stage anytime soon? This greedy, good for nothing freeloader would very much like to enjoy the fruits of your labors. Be well, - Dave |

I recently upgraded from OS 10.1 to OS 10.2 (running 10.2.3). I have an Orinoco Silver card, which worked perfectly fine with the driver for 10.1. After installing 10.2, I downloaded the appropriate driver, but I have not been able to establish a connection via my Orinoco card since. When the card is attached, network preferences show "en2" (and I have chosen the correct configuration). However, for some reason, the wireless configuration pref panel shows no signal (no matter how close to the base station I am). I am using an airport base station and i have an airport card (which has about a 15 ft range) installed in my Powerbook Ti (G4/400). Does anyone have any tips? Am I missing something basic? Thanks. Alex; Thanks for quick reply. I copy my original description of problem and after that attached is Troubleshooting script output. I have installed WirelessDriver beta 5.1 on my PowerBook G4. Network preference panel looks just the same as it did before I installed WirelessDriver beta 5.1. In WirelessConfig preference panel all fields are dimmed. Only field that is not dimmed is "Connect to wireless network named:", but the entry field is blank and does not allow me to type anything. I am attempting to use EL2511CDPLUS PC Wireless card. Any suggestion what I am doing wrong. My particulars are a Pismo w/Orinoco Silver on 10.2.3. The driver works fine unless I restart, then the wireless doesn't function. The lights on the card are out, but they both flash every 10 seconds. However if I open the WirelessConfig pane in the System Preferences, it starts working. I don't have to click on anything else, just open it. Not a huge problem, just thought I'd post this issue in case there were others out there with the same issue... Thanks, Greg LaViolette |

Greetings, I am trying to get a Wireless card to work on my Power Book G4 550 Running 10.2.3 and no Additional major software. Developer tools isn't installed as of yet. Some info not sure if it helps is the PC Card Slot window contains Intersil HFA384xIEEE I have installed your beta 5 driver and it doesn't even show the card in the network pref pane. Here is a info dump from my card. Can you maybe write a driver for it? Do I need developer tools installed? Any help would be really appreciated. Nick Parker |
