-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 I've got a TiBook 400 with a dead Airport slot. I know the slot is dead because I tried replacing the card with a new one and it still doesn't work. I booted off of an external drive that sees my friend's Airport card in his Ti and it still didn't see my card. I have a spare SMC 2632W v2 which I'd like to use. I tried installing the packaged version from sourceforge and the SMC card doesn't show up in my Network preference pane. The WirelessConfig pane shows up, but I can't do anything. I know the machine is seeing the card in some way, because the card icon shows up in the menubar when I insert it. I've also tried downloading the latest source from CVS and building & installing that, and the SMC still doesn't show up in the Network pane. The diagnostic script link from the FAQ doesn't work, or I'd include output from it. The OS is a freshly installed 10.2 updated to 10.2.4, and the Airport slot is empty. jpb - -- Joe Block <jp...@Ap...> The difference between a fine and a tax is that a fine is a tax for doing wrong and a tax is a fine for doing well. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.2.1 (Darwin) iD8DBQE+VSuXyEXo8W2M9hsRAsQ9AKCsDmxtQP9MokRQgKyLWTPP2sL6twCfRx7Z J1lALavSHjkIv64zRor14nk= =ZMZr -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- -- Joe Block <joe...@si...> Alpha Geek s i l e n t ) p l a n e t voice: (407) 673-2250 fax: (407) 673-2260 500 Park Avenue South Winter Park, FL 32789 |

Apples Airport Extreme uses regular PC cards similar to how Wireless Driver works. All you have to do is to add support for your PC Card to use Apples Airport Extreme driver. To do it edit the Info.plist file inside /System/Library/Extensions/AppleAirport2.kext/Contents/ folder and add your PC Card name to the list. <key>IONameMatch</key> <array> <string>pci106b,4e</string> </array> You should add another string with your PC Cards name and then save the file. It should then recognize the card as a Airport Extreme card and work as an Apple built in card. To get the name of your card you have to insert it in the PB. Then run this command in the console. ioreg -l | grep pccard //Rob -- To be is to do. - Socrates To do is to be. - Sartre Do be do be do. - Sinatra |

Hi, I've got a pbook 800 and abuilt in airport card. I turned off the airport card. I installed the latest installer for OSX 10.2 off the site. The control panel came up, but all of the options are grayed. The card is also not powering up, no green lights on card. And the card isn't recognized in the network settings box. The troubleshooting script isn't available online.. the card and port were confirmed. I tried an aerocard driver, and it worked.. but it's not opensource <boo>.. So I'd really like to use this. This driver worked for me on a G3 Lombard with the same card. Just not on my pbook 800.. yet.. Thanks Tim |

So if I've got a DVI 800 powerbook and I go out and buy an Extreme basestation will I be able to use the LinkSYS Extreme PC Card? It's not clear to me exactly what Nick has got working. I'm trying to decide b/w going "B" or "G" in my basestation purchase. I don't think I see any reason to upgrade my 800 PB for at least another year. |

Has anyone had problems with their PCMCIA slot not recognizing their is a card there? I had the driver working just fine in 10.1 and a few days ago I put my laptop to sleep when it woke up the lights on the card were off and then when I put it asleep again the machine crashed. Ever since then I have not been able to get the card to work in OS9 or OSX and it is not listed in the io registry. I have tried to zap the pram and even unplugged all the batteries (including the backup battery under the cdrom drive. Nothing has helped. Anyone have some advice? The machine is a G3/333 (Lombard) and I have tried two WaveLan based cards without success. Both cards work in other machines fine. Thanks, Ali -- Ali Saidi <as...@ma...> |

Hi, If anyone can offer any suggestions on this one, it would be much appreciated. I have a Lombard Powerbook G3 400 with an Orinoco Gold card. My connection had been working fine for several months (under various versions of OS X 10.2, I'm now on 10.2.4). This weekend, I went away and unplugged my card. I came back, and the airport card will only maintain a connection for 30-120 seconds. I can always get the connection back by by deselecting and reselecting the "en1" configuration in the Nework Control Panel, but doing that every couple of minutes gets old pretty fast. I've tried resetting my cable modem, AirPort and computer several times, and even tried reinstalling the driver, but nothing seems to help. Any ideas? Thank you, Kevin Niedermeier |

With a $129 street price for the 802.11g AP the $80 seems high for a b only AP :) I've played around with the card in my tibook, also a DVI 800, and have transfered stuff at 16mb/s when the AP was in a/b mode and 20mb/s with settings in g only mode, not too shabby. It was pretty easy to get the linksys setup with a mac, but I did use a PC to update the firmware as it was a program. There were provisions to update via tftp but I did not try that but I will next time. Hi, When I installed the WirelessDriver the other day I noticed that the SigMeter wasn't working. As someone else pointed out last December, it fails at startup with the Console message Unable to load nib file: SigStrength, exiting Indeed, the English.lproj directory in SigMeter.app/Contents/Resources is empty. I tried checking out the WirelessDriver sources from CVS to see if the missing nib files was there and found a SigStrength.nib directory under WirelessConfig/English.lproj. I copied this SigStrength.nib directory into the English.lproj of my SigMeter.app and this seems to have fixed things. (I have a signal strength meter on my menu bar now :-) If anyone's interested, I've tarred up my (now working) SigMeter.app and will send it to anyone who doesn't feel like repairing it from the CVS sources themselves. Hopefully the copy of the SigMeter in the WirelessDriver installer will be fixed soon, too...? Cheers, Tom |

From what I understand, the Linksys cards are based around Broadcom's chipset. This means that it's more likely than not that can be made to work with Apple's own Airport Extreme driver. This driver was included with 10.2.4, so I'm sure we'll see reports soon. Intersil still hasn't shipped silicon to it's vendors yet. As a result, we can't even guess at 802.11g compatibility at this stage. -Rob On Monday, February 17, 2003, at 08:15 AM, Robert Nicholson wrote: > Since I have a DVI 800 that I not planning to upgrade soon and I'm in > the market for a new basestation and I'm wondering if I should be > looking at the newer G variety LinkSys Models or not. > > Currently what support exists in the driver the link sys G cards and > what speeds to they support via the PCMCIA interface on the Tibooks? > > I'll probably go with the older Linksys basestations but only if the > price is right ie. under $80 price point otherwise I probably should > be looking at the newer G models. > > I've not seen prior discussions on Airport Extreme drivers > compatibility with the Linksys cards. > > > > ------------------------------------------------------- > This sf.net email is sponsored by:ThinkGeek > Welcome to geek heaven. > http://thinkgeek.com/sf > _______________________________________________ > Wirelessdriver-support mailing list > Wir...@li... > https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/wirelessdriver-support > -- "Quidquid latine dictum sit, altum viditur." |

Since I have a DVI 800 that I not planning to upgrade soon and I'm in the market for a new basestation and I'm wondering if I should be looking at the newer G variety LinkSys Models or not. Currently what support exists in the driver the link sys G cards and what speeds to they support via the PCMCIA interface on the Tibooks? I'll probably go with the older Linksys basestations but only if the price is right ie. under $80 price point otherwise I probably should be looking at the newer G models. I've not seen prior discussions on Airport Extreme drivers compatibility with the Linksys cards. |

Has anyone had any joy at installing this card (Belkin FSD6020 v.2)in a wallstreet (PB G3/266)? I have installed the software three time, but never get the 'en1' interface to show up. I have checked to see that the driver files are in place, and they are, but no en1 shows up in the network settings. The card works just fine in my Toshiba running Win XP, so is there any reason why it doesn't want to work on the mac? -- Barry |

Here's a snipped version of that excerpt from the last item in the FAQ: (http://wirelessdriver.sourceforge.net/faq.html#compile) --------------------------------------------------------------- How do I compile the WirelessDriver myself? 1) You will need to install the OS X 10.2 developer tools 2) WirelessDriver.kext belongs in /System/Library/Extensions 3) WirelessConfig goes in /usr/local/bin 4) WirelessDriver PPane.prefPane has to br in /Library/PreferencePanes. You can put the SigMeter anywhere. Make sure the WirelessDriver.kext is owned by root so that it will load correctly. To ensure this, type the following in the terminal: chown -R root.wheel /System/Library/Extensions/WirelessDriver.kext (Alternately, just go to the file in a finder window, select it, Get Info, and check that under the Ownership&Permissions tab the file has Owner: system and Group: wheel) Reboot and Enjoy! ------------------------------------------- Hope this helps! Jerks. Why? I mean, it violates the MacOS X end user license agreement, reduces the incentive for third parties (either freeware or commercial) to support Macs with these cards, and probably makes Apple less likely to give out information in the future. It'll certainly discourage anyone else from writing drivers to support these cards, so that when Apple changes the driver to have a less-trivial hardware check, you'll be up a creek without a driver. Imagine if you'd done this for AirPort.kext (which is not a lot harder to patch)... Discouraging people from writing drivers doesn't seem to me to be what Mac users really need at the moment. I've found I can get a good signal with the Lombard/Orinoco anywhere in my (small) house - which means 40' or so from the base station. However, the signal strength fluctuates a lot when I'm farther away and seems to be sensitive to the orientation of the Powerbook. I've found that where I'm sitting now, about 40' away, I can keep a strong, fairly stable signal if I prop up the back of the machine so that the Orinoco card isn't completely horizontal. It still drops out every now and then, but it's good enough to keep an internet radio connection going in iTunes. Is there any way to rig up an antenna on the Orinoco silver card? Tom |
