There is no difference if you are using WinMerge in business or at home. Strictly speaking WinMerge is not freeware. But WinMerge is Open Source [1]. And WinMerge is using GNU Public License (GPL) [2][3]. GPL License text is always distributed with WinMerge sources and binaries. If you are only using binaries there is nothing to worry about. Hey there everyone. I've been using WM on and off for about 9 months now and let me first say thank you for an amazing piece of software. It does it's job with speed and efficiency. It's easy to use and simple to understand. I do have a question though on a new version I just installed. I'm currently running 2.10.2.0 Unicode and a small change appears to have been between a previous version and this. I've selected the option "Add to explorer context menu". In the previous version Winmerge only showed up when I right clicked on a file/folder. However in this new version the Winmerge button now also shows up as the first option under the File menu under Windows Explorer. This interferes with several keyboard shortcuts I use on daily basis. Checking / unchecking the Add to explorer context menu removes both the right click menu and the button under the File menu. Hi, I have created a prediffer which I'm using with WinMerge v 2.10.2.0(Unicode). I am trying to force WinMerge to always use this prediffer, if possible, for the file types specified (by code) in PluginFileFilters. I have found some things about this in the documentation but I can't seem to find a way to make it work. My prediffer only shows up as a suggested plugin, even though I've set PluginIsAutomatic to True. Is there a way to do this? Configuration? Command line hacks? /David |

Unfortunately line filters can be only used when the compare type is "Full contents" as other compare types don't analyze (whole) file contents. Regards, Kimmo |

Hello, I often work with files, which have no identical/empty lines, so all differences are in one block (see attachments). Within those files WinMerge cannot copy/merge only one difference, instead the whole block/file is merged. At the moment i manually copy and paste the difference. For a future release it would be nice when only a part is marked (like "Difference in the current line" is selected), only the marked parts are copied when "Copy Left/Right" is performed. In the current release always the whole block is merged, regardless of selected parts. TIA Richard |

The fix will be included in the stable branch soon and I hope to release 2.10.2 stable release within two weeks. With this bug fixed. Right now, if you depend on this feature you can: a) try the latest experimental release b) switch back to 2.8.x until the 2.10.2 is released I'm sorry for the trouble, and that we didn't catch this bug until it went to the stable release. You need to get familiar with filters -- that is, play around long enough to get it :) I don't use SVN, but it seems that this line in an "include" filter should do it: d: \\.svn$ ## Subversion control directory "Include" filter means that the filter includes everything except what matches the filter entries. Hi, I compare the svn repo with my current repo. My current repo does not have any svn related "folder" i.e (.svn etc). Now whenever i compare 2 folders i get a long list of .svn folders in winmerge. Yes, it does not work, as there has been a small change in our resource file and line numbers in POT/PO files did change. If you download just released WinMerge 2.8.2 it should work fine. Say I export all options into a WinMerge.ini and would like to have them used/imported when I invoke WinMerge. Haven't seen any cmd option for options :-) so I thought I'd ask.
The reason I ask is that I carry a minimal WinMerge on a USB stick (and in an SFX archive so I can carry a few files and still have simple invocation), so at the time when I run it on some box it's equivalent of the first run.
